I have a 74 Westfalia bus with an automatic transmission. At 63 mph turning around 3,600 rpm. Had a pressure plate made for type1 1776 dual 40 Kadrons.
Sorry for the late reply... overlooked your comment. You can get parts from a VW aftermarket supplier, or better go to a VW show and check out the swap meet. Where are you located?
I would definitely like to see a how to video also! I’m located in Greeneville so it’s nice to know there is a good shop within a couple hours from me.
I have a 1968 Autostick I have thought about converting. However, I’ve heard the 1968 through 1970 does not have a clutch tube in the tunnel. Are you familiar with a clutch tube install? Seems like it might be difficult. I can’t seem to find much on it.
Yes, some years don't have the tube... not sure which years. I've heard someone say some years DO have the tube. Seems odd that VW left those out for the autostick cars. It must have been known before they assembled the parts inside the pan tunnel that the car was getting an autostick. Haven't seen any videos either, but basically you'd have to remove that center panel on the bottom of the pan to install it. There's pictures out there of what it looks like inside.
@@JayDubCustoms Thanks for the quick reply. I was afraid it might be major surgery, I’ll look into it. My 68 beetle Autostick works well for now, it’s a very low mileage car, but I figured someday I might want to swap it for a 4 speed.
Im currently doing a swap now. Never thought id buy a super beetle with a auto stick. Turns out.... its a 73 manual car... with a autostick swap. WHY! Well had to edit my msg! Ill be in contact with you! Also a question for you. Have you ever seen a manual bug that was swapped to a auto stick?
No, haven't seen that... most people want to go from auto to manual. I just finished one for a customer in KY. The toughest part was that the autostick pan does not have the tube for the clutch cable, so you gotta fish it through. Ideally you would open the tunnel from the bottom and install a tube but that would get expensive.
@@JayDubCustoms see thats whats crazy. I have the clutch cable tube in the tunnel.... my educated guess is someone wanted a car that someone could drive. Or they had their car in some wreck and had the drive line to swap?... idk its so fucking stupid.... i lose brain cells thinking about it.
@@CBREngines LOL, well that makes it an easier swap since it was originally a manual. Did they cut holes in both sides of the engine bay? Coz the autostick had canisters under both rear fenders with filler necks that went into the engine bay.
@@JayDubCustoms they cut alot of holes in alot of places ive found. And yes i see the fill tank on the right hand side. And the clutch vac solenoid on the left and some crazy home made wiring that also just makes me gag. Has a chrome alternator stand. But had a generator. Regulator was wired wrong. Fun times far. Got the 1600 running. And compression surprisingly good. But i ordered a 1915 stroker kit. Rip
@@JayDubCustoms also serious question. I hear the 4 speeds are pretty strong units. Would you recommend brand new reman or used? If it was your car what would you trust. Im very new the the vw world of air cool porche engines.... if you honestly look at the history and who designed the bug
🤣 A steeper hill. Just kidding. There are several engine builders on YT. Just search around. My initial advice is to get your 4th gear changed in your transmission. Known as the “freeway flyer.” What state are you in?

Nice!
Very interesting video! I had a Peru Green '69. I rarely see green ones, and you have TWO in your shop. Good luck with the conversion.
Thanks Super Bear.
The auto stick starter will work with the manual transmission. It’s actually a better starter to use because it doesn’t use a starter bushing.
Cool thanks Jerry. I wasn’t sure if it would or not.
@@JayDubCustoms anytime bud. Yea they are actually better starters to use because you don’t need a bushing. They are self supporting
Very helpful video, thank you so much !
Thank you. I’m going to do another video where I actually do the tranny swap.
Where can I buy them parts to do manual swap

@JayDubCustoms I'm located in US
Yes, I would love to see a video of the swap from AutoStick to manual transmission! Where in Tennessee are you located?
I'm in Sparta. Well, I have another customer job in the shop for a tranny swap... guess I'll shoot a video once I get to it.
I would definitely like to see a how to video also! I’m located in Greeneville so it’s nice to know there is a good shop within a couple hours from me.
The cv axles are different length as well
Hey Shawn, not trying to argue but I've changed a few from auto to manual and the cv joints were the same.
I don’t see the bushing for the clutch shaft
Are you talking about within the pedal assembly? I'm planning a video where I rebuild one.

Where can I get an manual transmission that'll fit my 70 vw beetle
Best bet would be a swap meet at a VW show.
I'm doing the same thing I was almost done with it then I was lining up the tranny and I saw the tranny Mt is not going to work
How much this swap will cost me to do , with you ?
Thank you
Sorry for the very late reply... email me and we can talk specifics. Thanks!

It’s a 73 Type 2 that I want to change.
Probably similar procedure. I’m trying to make a video of a swap on a bug.
Starter's will interchange
Wanna donate the autostick flexplate! :) would be a blessing to see my car run with original parts
The owner kept all the extra parts after I did the swap. He’s in Kentucky. I could put you in touch with him if you want.
@@JayDubCustoms that would be great. Thanks and God bless
