It all comes down to the right tire for the right terrain, tire pressure to maximize your traction patch, weight, and then low-end torque and horse power.
Well...i6 does create more torque at a lower rpm then a v8 and which is why Riggs use them over a v8 to pull a load...could have a little to do with traction but the v8 couldn't push his rpms up enough to create more torque so there fore the i6 won
+RavenPrecept for torque, the inline 6 will win, but if you want more top end, then the v8 will win. I would personally choose the inline 6 for better acceleration which is fun because how often do you even hit your top speed, you know?
Jesus Christ didn’t anyone teach these geniuses the notion of “something’s got to give”!? Motor mount, u-joint, tire grip, oh wait, let big down the engine with very high journal pressure and very low oil pressure, thereby destroying the bearings, whilst simultaneously asking the transmission to do the impossible and putting it into a no-win scenario. Ever seen this arm wrestlers snap bones? Somethings got to give.
I have bet the 5.2 in my i6 while the v8 was in 4low mine in 4hi. My trans was the asin aw4 with 373 gearing and stock wheels. The V8 had 3.55 gears stock wheels. was on grass not pavement as i didnt wana ware my tires much yet alone break my diffs lol.. I schooled him.. Than a guy with a lifted 2.5l yj with 4.88 gearing and 33" mud grapplers with a 4 speed manual schooled me?? I was in shock.. It taugh me gearing and traction was the name of the game. Im sure the 5.2l with 3.73 gears would have pulled me too. But i have matured and stoped torturing my rig. Traction and gearing seemed to be the name of the game though.
I6 in 4 low, V8 in 4 high. Put the V8 in 4 low also and it will drag the 4.0 around the parking lot. My so called shitty 4.7 HO WJ has pulled an 4.0 HO XJ all over the place, several times.
@Layne McCall Fastest SUV sold for 3 years, yeah slowest V8. One should keep their mouth shut as to let others guess about their stupidity rather than open it and remove all doubt. I even doubt you know what that means.

"Elevator" has already lost some torque with those over sized wheels and tires which provided him more clearance at the cost of torque, which he possibly required a regear. He already had engine issue's prior to this as the 5.2 overheated far to quickly. But that's just an observation, and have worked on a Magnum 5.2 powered ZJ myself. We have forums that are very informative for all the various models of Jeep's. "It's a Jeep Thing, They wouldn't Understand." ;) lol
there is no way a 318 magnum gets pulled by the i6. without other factors playing. and i love i6's... so i have no prejudice. i got a 95 wj with the 318 and that shit is tits.
Yup sorry. May have been a typo but i also have b3en researching. Correct on this? My jeep is, A grand cherokee jz With a chrysler 318 magnum, not to be confused with an older original 318. I its 220hp 300ft pounds and if it could be stick it would be amazing. Lol im a recent engine/car noob but ive started to fall in love with cars and engines
In this video, idiots ruin their trucks for no good reason as always. Also ignore basic laws of physics. What a surprise, engine with more power but less grip spins tires. Once engine with more power gets grip it pulls weaker motor. Surprises everywhere.
The hemi should be the one on the left, and he was clearly in high range, causing his traction control to ride brakes and his torque converter to slip in a way nobody designs them to. The I6 was in low range, so his tranny wasn't slipping, but his tires were. Once the tranny heated up in the hemi, and the tires heated up on the weaker motor, it was all over. However, the contest is meaningless for more than one reason. If you want to compare motors, you need both to have the same tires and be in the same low range. At that point, it's still just going to come down to traction, and the much heavier hemi will have more normal force (and more power to use it). You might as well test them at blowing up balloons with the exhaust pipe. It's a test that doesn't mimic the conditions we use the vehicle in. In any case, the hemi makes me grin. 6 cylinder engines don't. Nuff said. If you like the 6, by all means don't buy a hemi.
@@everettdurst1 I agree with what you say about traction, definitely. But the Chrysler 5.2L (318) is NOT a Hemi lol! There was NEVER a Hemi engine option in the 1993 to 1998 ZJ.
No surprise the v8 having engine problems. There can be many factors why the six won. The v8 engine could be tired warn the state of the transmission.also helping the six has smaller wheels and tires.
WOW. Jeff u are right. these people are so angry and really don't know shit about how an engine mounted to a sheet metal " Unitbody " connected to a trans that's mounted to a sheet metal cross member that's in turn mounted to..... yeah, OK so anyways, it's torque twist. do research people. do not tow with a jeep. be smart not stupid. these jeeps with sheet metal frames bend and twist all the time. Everytime u gun it from a stop your bending your jeep.
Ryan O That's right, uni frame, just like a combat aircraft, you spread the load over the entire frame, so it doesn't have a stress point! You've obviously never owned or looked under a Jeep, but to my surprise (they call it a unibody) but it's basically a welded box frame to the body. So strong that you can open and close all the doors when it's on 2 wheels on opposing axles. It was a body on frame guy until I saw how much stronger the "unibody" is. It's why Porsche make the Cayenne with over 500HP the same way I guess!
AMS Jesus another FUCKING moron. This is a traction issue!!! The 5.2 makes more torque through the entire RPM band than the 4.0! Both were spinning plenty high RPMs.
these guys were like.... hmm my transmission works. I'll take care of that problem right now
Tedd Adolphson I laughed too hard at that lol
Tedd Adolphson 😂 😂
Jake Young same haha 😂
More like differential
@@jpchannel171 more like 42 and 46re transmission failure... you obviously haven't had a chrysler

who would have known that doing a two minute long converter stall would lead to trans fluid on the ground.

4.0L Power!!
Could be a difference in transfer cases. Some jeeps are awd, some have 4 low. I've had both. Awd ones suck.

its all about grip, the 5.2 out preforms the inline 6 in every category other than reliability
I was thinking the same
Now swap tires
and repeat the test after both cool down a bit
Sounds like the v8 was in 4hi... smoking the trans
he did. dumb af
Don't know much about jeeps but I do know there badass in winter and in mud terrain.
No surprise v8 went bang
cutting off the exhaust prolly didnt help him much, and im assuming he didnt change the gears with the bigger tires
Low man wins the game,, talking football or towing,, towing with lifts gets tricky.
Nope
THE OLE242 OR THE4.0 BADDEST ENGINE EVER MADE !BEEN AROUND ALONG TIME,1st WAS THE NASH IN 1946,!
Ford 300 i6 is the big brother only real difference is a gear instead of chain but both are some of the most reliable out there miss them i6 engines
Drop air pressure and stick it in low .. and wait for there engine to blow

Yep, you have a ZJ like the ones in this video. Awesome rigs, and the 318 Magnum is largely the same as the LA 318 of yesterday.
95 wj..... wj is 99-04...95 would be a ZJ
depends on which reaches it`s peak torque sooner...
I6 won by a long run lol
pulled a heavier vehicle with a shitter engine lol
Hey I was there. That V8 got nothing on Travis.
