I've owned both the older 35 1.4 and the XF35F2 in the past, but ended up selling on both as I wasn't using them so much [at the time I preferred longer FL, nowadays I tend to prefer wider, loving the Viltrox 13mm for example] - but I ended up buying this XC35F2 just to have in the bag, and it has gotten a lot of use over the years [bought it shortly after it's release] it's perfect for travel, so light and unobtrusive. I've shot some family portraits using it too and the results were very decent indeed. I can also vouch that it is just as sharp and contrasty as both the old 35 1.4 and the XF35, honestly you will not notice any difference between them from F2 on [the 1.4 can focus closer, which is nice, but it's slow and noisey]
I liked your video more than I thought I would. Your hairspray on a cheap filter is a great idea, back in the (does that make sound old) Vaseline used to be smeared on cheap filters usually trying to keep the center clear and the areas around the center, heavily distorted. First recommendation, in low light situations discover the miracle of fill flash, play with the flash compensation settings, you'll get a feel for it really fast. I highly recommend a "simpler" smaller flash to learn on, even with larger flashes, I still go to my smaller flashes. I recommend the TT350 Godox line for your camera, small and affordable, easy to learn, so easy I figured it out.
Somehow I just found this video and I have to agree with all of your points. I bought this lens secondhand with an xt30 to have some lightweight travel option since my Sony a74 with 24-70 is heavy as hell and I like this cure little combo. I can only recommend it for everyone.
Dude literally the pictures you took were dazzling and there is such a charm in those. Crazy stuff. Loved your this video. I also have 2 DSLRs but never used them for vintage theme.
There are alternatives to Tiffen lens filters. Such as K&F concept, their Back Diffusion filter is basically identical to black pro mist and costs around 20€ for the Fuji 35mm filter thread.
Thanks for the review. As this is the non WR version with no covers near the mount, just wanted to know if you had to deal with dust problems on the sensor due to the prolonged usage. Also, how confident are you with using this in a hot, humid and dusty environment like mine in South East Asia?
Your videos are amazing, they deserved much more recognition. I bought a fuji X-T1 and the source colours are something inexplicable, I was thinking of buying this lens for having AF, does it pay off on the X-T1? Or do I stick to analogue lenses! I turned sub.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’ve used it on the X-E1 and the X-Pro 1 and I would say it would be a great pairing for the X-T1 as well :)
2 роки тому+1
Good review, thank you! Could you please share your most commonly used preset on the Fuji? Like, the film simulations, shadows, colors, highlights? (in case you're using those, of course)
Thanks for the review, so informative and it made me more curious wether i should buy XC 35 to replace my kit lens 16-50 which is too bulky and heavy. Great photos by the way👍🏼 Wish I could take dreamy & aesthetic photos same as yours. Keep it up.
Thanks! I wouldn't say the XC 35 is a good replacement, rather a good addition to your camera kit, depending on the situation the XC 35 might be better, and in other situations the versatility of the 16-50 could be better.
Which is better i am confused The xc35 f2 or the Sigma and viltrox with f1.4. I need for talking head video So low-light performance is important also should be sharp wide open.
2:58 Well, the XF is weather-resistant and has a metal body. Yes, image quality wise they are really close but durability is a big factor in professional photography. I’ve just bought an X-Pro1 with the XF35 and I’ll replace it as soon as possible with the XF, either the 2.0 or the 1.4. I simply don’t trust the XC.
My Fuji gear is for fun, I don't use it professionally and my X-T30 isn't weather sealed. Of course if that's a concern and you need weather sealing you'll have to look for an alternative.
Definitiv ihr Geld wert. Ich hab mir das Objektiv vor ein paar Wochen neu für 150 Euro gekauft und bin sehr angetan von dem Objektiv :) So konnte ich wirklich viel Geld sparen.
@@futc.photography question: i am a bit of unsure between the two cuz these are my only options. Which is better to choose in terms of portrait shots, the fuji xc 35mm f2 or the viltrox 23mm f1.4?
Arrrgh! I’m relatively new to photography. But help me to get it thru my pea sized brain. You’re reviewing a 35mm lens. But you keep referring to it as a 50mm? Now I get there’s what’s called a crop factor. But on your camera which 1 is it projecting the image as? 35mm or 50mm!?
fuji cameras have an aps-c sensor, so a 35mm lens, like the xc 35mm F2, has about the field of view of a 50mm lens on a full-frame camera. The sensor is smaller than full frame so it captures a smaller section of light, resulting in a narrower field of view.
@@Blah-blah-sure No, it's a 50mm equivalent field of view. If you want a 35mm field of view you would have to pick up a 23mm lens for your fuji camera. 😅
Just bought mine. I was super impressed with the results this lens provides, definitely worth the money.
Thanks for the review!
Thank you for watching! 😊

Yeah the A7IV with a 28-75 F2.8 is my go to setup, but it really is quite bulky haha, that's why I love the X-T30! Thanks for you input 😊

I was on the verge of buying this lens, and your review solidified it. Your fantastic review plus the Zelda poster made me instantly subscribe. 😂
Haha that's amazing to hear, hope you're enjoying the lens :)
I've been thinking of getting a new lens and came across your video. Thank you for this!
Cool video!
What kind of hair spray you put on the lens?
I have the 1.4 old 35. How is the autofocus in video???
Thank you. You gave me all the information I needed to buy this lens. Very informative video.

Basel can be a beautiful city if you look for the right spots ;)
Definitely!
I have the XE1 and an xc35 . Great combo
That’s exactly the combo I tested the x-e1 with 😋
Thank you for your videos, i honestly enjoyed them more than the other fuji people
Thank you! I appreciate that a lot 😊
nicely reviewed buddy ❤️
I appreciate it!

Sigma is by far the best out of them. It has 1 stop more than the Fuji and it's coatings are better than Viltrox.
What viewfinder eye cap is that on ur camera ?

What sort of colour shifts are you doing on these? They all seem to have a specific difference applied, is it a 'recipe'?
Some of these are recipes, some of these are raws edited in Lightroom :)
Can anybody tell me video capabilities of this lens??
Nicely done review, cheers! :)
Thank you! Cheers!
can this fit in Lumix G100? I really wanna get this lens badly
No you cannot fit Fuji lenses on Lumix cameras unfortunately
Where are you from?
Hey, really nice review!! Danke :)
I just buy this len in second hand around USD110. it is very good lens but I find it is some noise when u focus the object. Is it O.K?
Yeah that's probably normal. This lens can get pretty loud.
@@pluvio154 I sold this lens, Then I bought the better outlook of xc35mm. I found the same result. Confirm it has pretty loud.

only f2?
is this already good enough for portrait shots
Yes, definitely. Vintage lenses would also be a great choice for portrait shoots, check out my video on the canon FD 50mm F1.4

Close up bad. The lens is too soft for me.
