  • Today, we examine a first edition of the legendary Leica Summicron-M 5cm 1:2 collapsible that was manufactured in 1954. With sample images.
    The v1 Summicron was made between 1951 and 1956 with 125,751 examples made in both L39 thread and M-bayonet mount.

    hi man great review! Ive been doing research on this particular lens. Why dont u recommend to collapse it on a m10 body? Thanks!

      While there is the small possiblity of damage if the rear of the lens assembly is misaligned as it can hit the shutter blades or sensor if collapsed, the main problem is collapsing the lens while mounted on the body can throw lubricant onto the sensor, and it can be a pain to clean.

    So many of these extraordinary lenses can be found on eBay, etc., but typically the front element is scratched or scarred by ignorant owners rubbing them for cleaning, as you point out. Why did Leica decide to use a piece of glass that is "soft as chalk?"
