Doing research on deadfall traps, which I'm fascinated with how clever these traps were, I came across the same idea. When you think about it, a leg hold trap isn't any friendlier !
Deadfalls are awesome coon traps when made correctly. I think this trap is more of a rural legend , then again I've never tried it, but neither has he.
Clearly you don't have much of a mind. Because when you "think about it", you can see that there's a huge difference between these nails and a legal leghold trap. The nails will cut into them through their skin and into their bone and will probably lead a raccoon tearing it's paw apart. A leghold won't and a caught animal can be safely released without damage. So when you think about it, you obviously have no experience with trapping.
There was actually a trap on the Market in the 1920s a wooden cone that used this method I believe it was called the sure hold Not to be confused with a steel trap of the same name
Interesting. I think that I would just use a nail bent like a fish hook, some string and a bent over tree. Catch that sucker like a fish. 😁😉🤣. I'd have better luck finding some vines for rope than nails and making a bow. But that would work.
Wildman, I bought one of the bucket traps like you did a couple videos on. How do you recommend arranging the bait in that trap? I tried wiring a can of sardines to the trigger and then tried wiring the can to the back of the bucket behind the trigger. How do you do it?
great survival tip , i have seen it done with horse shoe nails and peppermint candy for bait . it does work great .
I know a homeless guy that uses holes in a creek bank and a chewing gum wrapper that does this

That's a great survival tip there eh! Never seen that before... how's ur scheduled lately still looking for coyote snares???
Have you had any luck? I have heard of this in where the red fern grows but never heard of anyone actually using this with any success.
it works, i caught one smaller raccoon in one, i would only use this in a pinch for survival
