  • The late E.O. Wilson, a world-famous biologist and conservationist, said the Southeastern grasslands are “probably the richest terrestrial biome in all of North America.” Today though we have lost 90% of our grasslands due to fire suppression, farmland conversion, and eventually urban sprawl. In this talk, Sean Bloom, GIS Director for the Catawba Lands Conservancy, will discuss the work of the Catawba Grasslands Project to manage, enhance, and restore native grasslands across the Charlotte region. He will also provide information on how you can create pocket prairies and pollinator habitats at home to provide food and shelter for grassland birds and pollinating insects.
Sean joined Catawba Lands Conservancy in 2011 as GIS Director. His role includes mapping and geographic analysis for both CLC and the Carolina Thread Trail. Sean also heads up the Catawba Grasslands Project which works to manage, enhance, and restore native grasslands across the Charlotte region.
Our mission is to promote the enjoyment and conservation of North Carolina’s native plants and their habitats through education, protection, cultivation, and advocacy.
