the backing band has a rotating membership. So far, all the players have been top-shelf musicians.

You’re absolutely right. None of this would work if everybody involved with this enterprise were not at the top of their game. I was always a music purist that insisted that to take a band seriously, they had to be organic and write their own material otherwise the product would have no soul. Enter BabyMetal and everything I thought I liked about music was turned on its head. When it comes to BM, their song writing is amazing, the band is phenomenal, production is top notch and the girls are so talented, it’s unbelievable. I saw them perform live in Melbourne last weekend and they were even better in person. The best live show I’ve ever seen in my 50 years of going to concerts.

    Excellent reaction, thanks!
And I 100% agree with you. I believe you perfectly summarized what BABYMETAL is just by your perception. Good job!
BABYMETAL is the three ladies: Su-metal, Yuimetal (at the time this was recorded) and Moametal. Yui left the group on 2018 after not performing since October 2017 due to undisclosed health issues. They continued as a duo, adding some backup dancers in 2018 and returning eventually to the triangle formation since December 2018, with Saya Hirai. Then, in 2019 they implemented a system called the Avengers formed by three girls rotating to cover Yui's old spot. They were Riho Sayashi, Kano Fujihira and Momoko Okazaki. The world stopped in 2020 while they were on tour and when they went on stage only Momoko seem to be the only Avenger left. Until she was announced as the new official member in April 2023, under the stage name Momometal. So they are now (officially) a trio again. They only performed as a duo between December 2017 and October 2018 (this point is sometimes quite confusing among reactors).
Their backing band is called Kami Band and it's a group of session musicians, the best you can find. And although they are not permanent members, their rotation has ben minimal during the last few years. In 2019 they added a new set of the Kami Band, formed by American musicians. Since then both sets of kamis wear darker robes and masks instead of white robes and face paint. They never announced their names (for both sets) but fans managed to recognize them by their gear, general appearance, style playing or even tattoos.
    Until next time!
    🤘🦊

Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
They were part of Sabaton's Europe Tour, and everyone were having a blast with them coming back to the stage in this live tour and more is coming such the Babyklok Tour in the US along with Dethklok and another return to UK and Europe for a headline tour, also they already finished the Asian and Australian Tour and more is coming, but so far this beloved song by fans wasn't part of the setlist outside of Japan.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special and one night only, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
    - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
    - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice.
This song got tributes to one of the greatest J-metal/visual key bands, like X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are hyping the crowd singing "Hedoban hedoban", the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult-
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.)
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father was a very famous in Japanese music scene.
    Next suggestion:
    - _"Ijime Dame Zettai"_ live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and you can witness a turning point in their career and a different type of live performance unlike this one with big top notch production.
Make no mistake, BM was formed around SuMetal powerful vocals, they added two partners in crime (like RHCP said) and that was the foundation with a mimic band playing behind during live performance, later on the Kami Band were added as their success and budget was raising up, but the only front women and official members are SuMetal, MoaMetal and now the new official member MomoMetal. I agree with your last train of thought.
Thanks for sharing this suggestion and see you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction ... and you clearly get it. BABYMETAL are like nothing else, they are original, new and unique ... and what they are doing is clearly not easy to replicate, some have tried, none has come close.
Jake Muller already explained the Kami Band who support BABYMETAL in all their live concerts. BABYMETAL started with no budget and would sing to pre-recorded instrumentals played on a backing track. The Kami Band were phased in gradually from October 2012 playing at a couple of festivals and coming on for the encores in a few shows.
Legend 1997 was just one concert on 21st December 2013 (the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997, this was her birthday party) and this was the last time the Kami Band played only the encores (5 songs in this instance, 'Headbanger' was the third of the 5).
From March 2014 the Kami band have been the constant support for all live shows.
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is also when compulsory education ends in Japan, so she is realising life will never be the same and her first 15 years passed by so quickly. She is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 half way through the song Su handed the mic and stand to Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) and they finished the second half of the song as lead vocalist while Su stepped seamlessly into their place doing the choreo.
Only fancam videos exist from those performances, but the same thing happened in 2019 on Moa's 20th birthday (with an appropriate change of lyric to "...this special night of my 20...").
Keep the BABYMETAL coming, pick any song, ideally live. They will surprise you with just how versatile they are and how each song is different to the last.

not really original, they just mixed genres, the correct answer they're the only ones good at it also for a band created by someone as a project.

in 2023 like today, how often can you see a band performance (any, not just rock/heavy metal) where the audience will legitimately having fun, pogoing, moshing, creating circle pit, even doing a body surfing? you can count it on one hand. most of the time people will just hold their mobile phones up and record the band/performance.
now I encourage you to watch the fancams from their latest tour of Babymetal in SEA and Australia, and watch the crowd went bananas. yeah you can still see a lot of mobile phones up in the air, but you can also see quite a lot of the crowd actively having fun and enjoy the show. I can attest this because when i watched them live, first thing i did was pull up my mobile phone and try to record the whole show. but most of the time i just went "screw it, imma have fun, this shit's too good!"
    they are THAT good.

Babymetal puts on a show unlike anyone else. Their headline shows in Japan aren't just a concert, each one is a unique bespoke theatrical performance that is never repeated again.
Babymetal is the three girls up front. At the time this was recorded, it was Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) on lead vocals and dance, Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) on backing vocals and dance, and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) backing vocals and dance. Yuimetal retired from Babymetal in 2018 due to illness, and for the next five years, a backing dancer known as an "Avenger" danced in Yui's old position in the formation, but was not considered a member of the group. Earlier this year at the "Babymetal Begins - The Other One: Black Night & Clear Night" concerts, Momoko Okazaki, who had served as Avenger for the last four years, was elevated to officially become Momometal, so Babymetal is officially a trio again for the first time in five years.
The backing band are called the "Kami Band" (god/spirit band); they are made up of some of the very best session musicians in Japan. The lineup of the Kami band is not fixed, with members rotating in and out depending on availability. On this particular occasion, the Kami Band was: Leda Cygnus (guitars), Mikio Fujioka (guitars), BOH (bass), Hideki Aoyama (drums). Since 2019, there has also been a second Kami Band made up of American musicians, who play on most over Babymetal's overseas tours outside Asia. Since the introduction of the western Kami Band, the Kami's have worn masks to disguise who is playing at any given time, but we can usually tell who it is by their body language and the instruments they play.

I’m more amazed at the ability at such young ages to manipulate the crowds as they do. I believe one of the girls said at one point that they wanted to create their own genre of music.

You are technically correct. Headbanger did open up the concert. But that was the dubstep version. This is from the encore. Almost the end of the show. It was a one night show. Budokan and Tokyo Dome were two nights. Legend of 1997 is for Suzuka Nakamoto's 16th Birthday. She was born in 1997.
The actual opening is pretty awesome too. They do Ave Maria to the Statue of the Virgin Mary. It's super cute. It transitions into the dubstep version of Headbanger. Not as cool as 'Babymetal Death' at the end of the concert. But still cool. I always thought those two stage shows were meant to contrast each other. Heaven and Hell sort of thing.

    Excellent reaction.
    Questions? Once again posting below:
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.

Babymetal started as a trio, a metal idol group. Then, after they grew bigger, affordable for musicians as constant members, then they are called A BAND. My all time favourite Japanese band started as a dual, after grew big, can afford constant band members, then they are called a band. However, in front of the media, there is always only two person. Why? Because the musicians did not grew with the dual from the very beginning. They joined the dual after the dual started to be famous. The musicians will not take the credit either, because it's unfair to the dual.
And, started with dual or trio is really common in music industry of Japan

Yeah, I've never heard ONE legitimate argument against this band that I can't defeat with logic and proveable examples - most crap talking against them is just whiny rationalizing and sour grapes gatekeeping. The only argument that holds any water at all is simply that you don't like their music as a matter of personal taste.
Anyway, BABYMETAL kicks ass, and they are one of the funnest bands you will ever see live, as well as one of the top 10 live-performing musical acts in the world today.
