This is a free improvisation for piano using found objects by Zhihao Wang & William Jae.
PROGRAM NOTE
A question was brought to me by the Instrument Office upon filling out a prepared-piano application form for this concert- “tell me what you are doing with this piano and create a list of the objects that you want to use.” Very quickly, from that list, came forth this title: coins, tapes, wires, batteries, brushes, balloons, a slinky, a snare buzz, and other harmless found objects.
We will perform live experimentation on the piano using these objects. It is a creative process in which we will learn and explore various possibilities of enlarging the piano sound world. This unscripted collaboration will leave us with the absolutely immediate, real-time musical responses and decisions of the loud or soft, sound or silence, and the yes, or no. -Ethan
This event occurred on February 1st, 2023, in Kilbourn Hall of Eastman School of Music, as a part of the Composers' Concert.
