Zhihao Wang: Baby, Let Me Tell You What Keeps Me Awake Late At Night (2024)
Zhihao Wang: Baby, Let Me Tell You What Keeps Me Awake Late At Night - for Classical Guitar and Drum Set (2024)
Program Note: Our thought patterns are not always linear, it is a process that involves many irregularities and repetitions. During my travels, I came across this strange genre of carpet in Bukhara, Uzbekistan- a “Frankenstein” made of many smaller pieces of elaborately decorated textile blocks that are distinctly different from each other. When you put together pieces of fabrics that are patterned, colored, and sized differently to create a larger work, what would that like look like? I found myself dreaming- memories, thoughts, images, and scenarios are abstracted, similar to the Uzbek carpet, they are these blocks of different information that occur themselves so unpredictably. It is never linear, they either come back, in the same or different form/context, mixed, or they don’t. This music is a reflection of such concept, so come here, and let me give you pieces of my mind. - Zhihao Wang
Premiered by Bruno Guedea and Kai Gray in Hatch Hall at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester New York, on November 13, 2024.

Zhihao Wang: ¿Como Así? - for Three Classical Guitars (2024)

Program Note: ¿Como Así? is a piece for three classical guitars that can be roughly translated to English as “How is it this way?” Or “Like that?” This specific instrumentation is inspired by the Bolero music tradition, specifically by the music of the guitar trio named Los Tres Ases from Mexico, which I adore dearly since a young age. ¿Como Así? is also influenced by my experience of playing a...
