- We went to the beautiful Yorkshire town of Beverley for a look around and to enjoy our 'by the curb' Christmas party, unfortunately I'd messed up my camera so we lost lots of footage and our plans were scuppered when some of the places we wanted to visit were closed.

I`m sorry that Beverly didn`t work out entirely as planned. I was at RAF Leconfield (closed and a migrant camp now), just up the road fifty years ago so Beverly was one of my nearest and favourite places. Those of us who served then used to drink in Nellies and knew her and her sister who were both running the establishment in those days. Met Norman (Hurricane) Smith in the Kings Head one night. He was staying there and we used to drink in the Cross Keys regularly. Friday lunchtimes were held at The Light Dragoon - The Rat (nickname Galloping Rats - nickname for the Regiment) in Eton just outside Beverley.Many thanks James for reminding me of the many many happy memories that I have of my time there.

My father was based at Leconfield during the second world war .He was the Flight Engineer on Halifax bombers.He survived 36 flights or sorties and was full of praise for one of the pilots who was only 21 at the time and flew the majority of his flights.
One of the duties of the Flight Engineer was to take over the controls if the Pilot was incapacitated.

Beverly started out as Beaver Lake and, over time, with the local accent, it transformed into Beverlak and then to Beverly. It's a bit like how Sheffield changed from Escafeld over a long period of time since it was in existence from times before England came into being.

Lovely! My mum used to holiday in a flat across the road from the 'Olde Pork Butchers'' and 'Boyes' 'you featured, and right opposite the restaurant you ate in!. I love Beverley.

What a shame about the Minster being shut and your camera troubles. I'm so glad you enjoyed the all you can eat meat restaurant, its on my list for our next visit to the area in the summer when we are away in our caravan. We love the vibe of Beverley as its so quaint and lots of nice different shops to Donny. The pub you went in we was in the room upstairs opposite the ginnel and the courtyard outside looks like in the summer it would be full as they have gigs on etc., My future mother in law told us about the sam smiths bar still having gas lamps etc., Humphrey really needs to move with the times lol Hope you had a fab Christmas and a Happy New year to you both James & Helen

Loved your Beverley blog - turned out great in the end. Living in Hull means I've visited Beverley many times over the years. My sister used to live there as well as an Aunty. If we go to Beverley for a little trip out we park in the Tesco car park (free for 3 hours I think) and love to do all the charity shops. And like you, I've never managed to get inside the Minster. I used to drink in Nellie's in the late seventies. Back then, it was like walking into a squatter house. Beer kegs perched on old kitchen units and tressle tables, gas lit, overflowing ashtrays and open fires in the rooms. Beer was half the price of anywhere else. It's positively modern now. I really miss the spittoons but, then again, I always did.
I love you two, your videos are great you cheered me up. I will go over the Humber bridge next time I am up in North Lincolnshire and visit Beverley.
