Merry Xmas everyone. Here's our Xmas present to you...an ode to the one and only Roy Keane. He deserves far more respect than he gets, so Roy this one is for you. For a bit of festive fun, help this video reach 10,000 likes and we will produce one about Scholes and Gerrard 🔥
Great video. Just curious where you got the overall assist stats from in the Keane vs Vieira section because Keane's career at Forest and even early United was less documented than modern record keeping/opta records. I read that Keane got 16 assists in all comps in his first season at United and 8 goals but started to play a deeper role after that and never reached those numbers for assists again. I kinda wonder how many assists he got as an attacking midfielder for Forest.
I'm 44 years old. I saw this man, week in week out, dominating the midfield. I remember him being incredible on the ball. Yet, no pundits ever talk about this. They talk about Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Vieira, Yaya, KDB, etc. As being elite ballers and they were. However, to omit Keane from these discussions is criminal. He wasn't only a fearless, ferocious, uncompromising leader. That boy could play.
It makes sense, he wasn't the showman of the squad. When Scholes, Beckham and Giggs were doing sexy stuff every game, he was there, smashing the basics and staying underrated.
@@damiena1478 That's the issue, you don't have to do anything sexy to be the most effective and dominant attacking midfielder in the world. Why drift wide and do a sexy curling pass when you can just beat the opposite number with a simple touch and smash a hard flat pass precisely in front of Dwight Yorke who then puts Cole through for a sitter. All that drifting and curling is foolish if you can do what Keane could.
They don’t make em like him anymore. So gifted technically, yet he was always the hardest working player in the team. Was also the fittest player in the team. So I guess I can’t blame people for thinking about him just as a leader, especially those who saw him in his latter years. But then again, apparently when he joined Celtic Real Madrid wanted him. To join the most star studded team of all time possibly, at least in that era. At 34 years old I think? That’s insane.
His performance v Juve in '99 was a masterclass - I was fortunate enough to watch United win the CL in the Nou Camp and I'll never forget the fans calling for Keane (and Scholes) to take their turns lifting the trophy, the players formed a tunnel for them and the cheer from the crowd was tremendous. The culture of demanding the highest standards week in week out that he helped firmly establish in the dressing room can never be underestimated. He was a perfect right hand man for Fergie. For me he's alongside Bryan Robson as my favourite ever Capt, this was a golden era to be a United fan. Love ya Keano!
The thing about Roy Keane was the fact he was not just excellent at one part of the game. He was complete!! on his day he would not just dominate the midfield , he would dominate the game. Not just a baller, but a true leader. We talk today about the lack of culture in the club, he was the culture. A true inspiration. All others hated him, not just because he was a brute but he was elite... one of the best every to pull on a United shirt.
As much as I admire the humility of Keane, Scholes and Neville during their playing days, I really wish they would bask in their glory a bit more today. It leaves too much room for people to misremember their legacy.

As a Forest fan watching him in the early 90s he was incredible. In those days he’d play as an attacking midfielder making forward runs and getting goals one game…. next game he’d be at centre back battling with a target man. Before his knee injuries Keane was an absolute force.
I’m an Arsenal fan, thought i would just make that clear off the bat. We will never see another rivalry like the Veira/Keane rivalry. The game away at Juve in ‘99 was unbelievable, especially when you factor in Keane knew he wouldn’t be playing in the final. The reality is people have short memories and forget how good players were in the 90’s and 00’s. I was talking to a United fan the other day and said the 99 treble was a greater achievement then City’s treble, because the overall quality of teams across Europe was better. Look at the Bayern team, the Juve team, the Inter team. United had to qualify from a group with Barca and Bayern. Then they played Inter, who had a prime R9. Then they played Juve who had a team stalked with elite players. It was no joke back then.
I'm a liverpool fan and a player that played from 8yrs to 34 without missing a season but first I am a football fan and roy Keane is a monster of the game.. totally underrated
As a united fan, I never once thought of Keane as defensive midfield. If you saw him get the ball, you knew the attack was on and the ball was going forward. He was ridiculously good.
As a fan watching Keane growing up. It's hard to describe that secure feeling seeing his name on the teamsheet. No other name since has given that feeling and reassurance.
Glad I grew up in the 90s and witnessed the class of 92, the beginnings of the Premier league and the peak years of the early 00s. Keane was immense, a complete package. Too many people don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.
REALLY well made video , you brought the receipts . One thing you need to take into consideration is Keane just being on the pitch just MAKES players play better.
Spot on! There’s a lot of people with his drive to succeed and wish for perfection. There’s a lot of people who had his quality with and without the ball. There’s a lot of players who had his physicality and stamina. There’s very few who put it all together the way he did.
Well done Sam, i remember saying to my mate in the game against Juve in 99, this Semi final felt like a day when Captains would come to the fore. We were 2 down in about 15 minutes then Keane led the comeback with one of the most complete and selfless performances I've ever seen. They say world class players make those around them better, Keane was one of the only ones in the world who could do that without kicking a ball.
I’m an Arsenal fan who grew up with the peak Wenger-Ferguson rivalry. Roy Keane was unbelievable and one of the first players I’d want from that United team and to disregard his ability is a joke. I’d struggle to choose between him and Giggs if I could only have one player from that team.
Roy Keane pocketed a Juventus midfield that included the Ballon d'Or winner Zidane, the captain of the WC winners Deschamps, and Edgar Davids. I'd love to see another midfielder do that.
I will never forget him giving that entire Juve team the business. Zidane and all his mates. Roy was genuinely world class. He would have had better numbers too if he hadn't have taken the responsibility of the deeper role.
I m 64 and saw him play for Forrest v Chelsea as a young kid while visiting London … he was brilliant that day, and l left Stamford bridge praying Fergie would sign him …. He did. …. The rest is history
When the video started I immediately thought of that game in Turin. Juve were the best team in Europe those years and were up 2-0 in the first ten minutes but somehow Man United pulled back and won, and Keane was the ringleader
I'm a lower league fan (Wycombe) so no reason for bias. For me, I would build any team around Keane. The best leader I have ever seen in any sport whatsoever, and massively talented.
Keane's ability as a footballer is definitely underrated, which is why to this day United fans still say he is the one man they would like to have in the team today. Nevertheless, don't use trophies as a yardstick. Phil Neville has as many Premier league titles as Lampard, Vieira and Gerrard combined. It doesn't make him better.
For once in my life I genuinely thought Ireland could win/really do well in the World Cup and that was because of Roy Keane but then the IFA decided to warm up in Guam ..not known for football and no decent pitches. I’ve been there. Then there was no kit. This was also the year all the IFA staff flew business class and the players flew economy. Keane was a leader and a legend the undeniable Captain and leader of the MUFC Team during his time at the helm. I don’t see any of the others fit to shine his shoes. I don’t for one minute question him flying home nor do I question his legacy.
Judging players by titles is stupid. If you want to go by that, Wes Brown is waaaaaay ahead of Tony Adams. Mikael Silvestre is way ahead of Ashley Cole. Anderson is waaaaay ahead of Gerrard. It's really stupid.
When united liked a bit dull in a game i can remember Roy keane big strong sliding tackles and tans it’s to get the ball and it always woke the team up to play better, he is simply captain marvellous

Roy Keane pocketed a Juventus midfield that included the Ballon d'Or winner Zidane, the captain of the WC winners Deschamps, and Edgar Davids. I'd love to see another midfielder do that.
Great video, Sam. Thank you.
I will never forget him giving that entire Juve team the business. Zidane and all his mates. Roy was genuinely world class. He would have had better numbers too if he hadn't have taken the responsibility of the deeper role.
Amazing video !!!!
Top video and much needed
Merry Christmas everyone!
Great timing Sam, we all needed that.
Great vid!
I m 64 and saw him play for Forrest v Chelsea as a young kid while visiting London … he was brilliant that day, and l left Stamford bridge praying Fergie would sign him …. He did. …. The rest is history
Wow, the disrespect 😅
When the video started I immediately thought of that game in Turin. Juve were the best team in Europe those years and were up 2-0 in the first ten minutes but somehow Man United pulled back and won, and Keane was the ringleader
Brilliantly put together - thank you! Great tribute to the one and only 👌👌
I'm a lower league fan (Wycombe) so no reason for bias. For me, I would build any team around Keane. The best leader I have ever seen in any sport whatsoever, and massively talented.
I love when you make this kind of video. You are so good. Please give us more.
Always appreciate a good Roy Keane video. Absolute legend.
Great analysis ❤
Had him on the back of every shirt I had from 97 right up until he left. Absolute baller he was. They don’t make them like keano anymore
Great video. People talking about Keane like he’s just another dm really gets to me because he’s one of the best footballers I’ve seen.
All am thinking of right now is, when we will have at least half of the quality of these players that played in 90s and early 2000s
No players like keano right now. We need players like him at united now. Ooohhh what a life
Love this, so true! Was always my favourite United Player, and he was literally MOTM nearly every game from 99,00,01seasons peak he dominated games.
Fantastic video. Can't wait to see 1 on Carrick
Fantastic video thank you so much, I really enjoyed
Love this pure facts been spoken 👏🏾
Great video, well put together too. Keane was a special player in his prime.
Finally this is the video for those who still want to defend Bruno. To young United supporters: we don't have a captain after Roy Keane.
When united liked a bit dull in a game i can remember Roy keane big strong sliding tackles and tans it’s to get the ball and it always woke the team up to play better, he is simply captain marvellous
