Taking me back to the summer of 1980. As usual this tune dropped on WBLS and usual I heard first on Niecy Colon’s show on a Saturday morning. The opening bars grabbed you right away and of course I remembered Luther from CHANGE’s “Searching” that came out earlier in the spring of that year🎶
The song that made me fall in love with Luther's voice. I'll never forget the first time I heard this cut. It's burned in my memory forever. Give a listen to the long version of this, then give a listen to his other hit with Change, "Searchin' ".
It’s one of my favourite songs
Ol’ Skool summer time classic for me! Luther and Change’s other big hit was “Searching” which was of course the Jam!!✌🏽
And without Luther, my skating rink Change jam was “A Lover’s Holiday”. ✌🏽
Happy Juneteenth, Angela, ❤️🖤💚 Was hoping you’d also recognize that “The Glow Of Love” is the sample for Janet”s “All For You”. ✌🏽 (Thanks, Walker One)
0:54 *”COMPROMISE BUT NEVER SETTLE”* Pops gave you some sage advice.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Interesting fact about Change. This was an Italian based band that was heavily influenced by Chic. The band, at first, had 4 lead singers. 3 of which were women. (And of course Luther) Luther left the band in 1981 to go solo at which time James Robinson took over as lead male vocalist. The band still perform today.
Great breakdown. Thanks.
Yes that is soon to be MEGA SUPERSTAR 'Luther Vandross, i caught your expression😊😊😊.
Indeed that is Luther singing. And he was part of Change's first album singing lead on this track and "Searching". Change was special having been one of the first groups to incorporate italo-disco, funk and r&b elements. A precursor to house music. This song was also sampled by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for Janet Jackson's "All For You". Great reaction Angela. Cheers to all the great Dads out there.
This song made me happy and put a smile on my face.
Summer of 1980..the Absolute Best !!!
First, you have to hear the LONG version of this to hear more of Luther's vocal acrobatics. This cuts of too soon. Yes, it's Luther. There is another big song he did wit this group called "Searchin'". Luther was a hugely in-demand background and touring singer for years and did a lot of vocal arranging. This song is one of my favorites. Many people have sampled this song, including Janet Jackson on "All for You". Luther had two albums with a group of his own that didn't sell.
I love the album / 12” version of this. His voice was just perfect.
Angela, thanks for the memories!!! Dynamic Classic!!!
Janet Jackson sampled this nicely in "All 4 you" (2001)
Yup and I was hoping that Angela would recognize it right away (other YT music reactors did) and bust out into Janet’s choreo.💃🏾
Nice surprise! This sounds like a Disco song and one of Luthers earlier hits probably as a featured performer or as part of this group! It's got a good beat and you dance to it! RIP Luther & Dick Clark! Goodbye! ❤❤😂😂
The era of Disco was coming to an end in 1980 but this is high marque disco like Chic or Earth Wind and Fire 🔥
That indeed was "Luther" before he was "Luther"!
I hadn't heard this one, and enjoyed it. Nice melody with that unmistakable voice of Luther.I know 'Searching' which I also like-Colin Ward.
Ready for some trivia?! It’s a build up so stay with me. I loved the disco era. I had bought all these retros disco CD’s like in the 90’s. I would listen to them off and on. And, I would add to the collection. Now fast forward to 2001. This new song came out by this very popular artist which of course became another hit for her. I remember going to the clubs, and the DJ would throw this song on and the place went wild. As I would listen to this song in replays, there was something very familiar about it. However, I was too busy with my partying to really pay attention to force mind to work this out. A year later, I was going through my entire collection of CD’s. I would play the discs I hadn’t heard in a while; some of which were the disco ones. I popped one disc in which was produced by RSO who in the 70’s were big producers of the disco music of that time; namely the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. And low and behold, I heard Luther (Change) singing the “Glow of Love”. And that’s when it finally clicked!!! I was like, I know this song! Another artist sampled it!! I pulled out the other CD & popped that in right after only to confirm my suspicion. The artist is Janet Jackson. The song she heavily samples “The Glow of Love” in is, “All for You”. You’re welcome!😂 Seriously, it blew my mind. Now, anytime I hear one song or the other, I catch myself interchanging out the lyrics for either song. You should listen to that one if by the sheer chance you’ve never heard it.
luther vandross was never officially a "change" group member. that is a common misconception. he was taken on as a featured singer for the songs "the glow of love" & "searching". this followed a succesful stint as a backing vocalist.
Feel good music ❤ continue to R.I.P Luther Vandross

Classic ! But i know this has been sampled in recent years. A great song with a disco vibe from the very end of the disco era.
Yes, that was Luther, shortly before he launched his incredible solo career.
Yes, that's Luther
The look on your face was priceless. Change had a few hits people don't associate with them.
Here Luther was with the group Changed before he went solo
Luther had a 1976 album.
Hi Ms. D., Are U thinking Chic "Good Times" also covered by Sister Sledge.. And their
