I feel like sports gambling preys on younger kids, I know people will always find a way to gamble, but it seems like they want them to, it’s so easy to access and encouraged. These companies are getting kids hooked early and its disgusting imo
I have a friend who is strictly an NFL fan, (I am strictly an NBA fan). He asked me if his bet was stupid, and I said no, and he praised me when it hit. He did it again and I approved it, and the bet didn’t hit, and then my friend blamed me. I don’t give advice anymore.
My dad tried to get me to do that because I know a lot about basketball. Like I might, but asking if a player gets a certain amount of assists is a shot in the dark. Way too many things can play a factor in that to know. That’s why I stay away from gambling in general not just sports betting lol

How many people are going to go out of their way to bet illegally? Well, more now because now they're addicted to it since its been legalized.
i agree with most of what you said but i do wanna share that (while i may be a rare case) i was never into sports my entire life (i’m 25) and i randomly saw draftkings bonus bet ad back in november and ended up winning 300 off one of them in a nfl game, that led me into gambling regularly and intern it caused me to become interested in sports i never cared about before, slowly as i kept losing my gambling slowed down (even tho i do still do it) and now i watch highlights and live games all the time, and even have started PLAYING basketball for the first time in my life to get in a bit better shape, i even have favorite players now instead of teams kinda like the fantasy part of the video you were talking about, i might be a rare case but just wanted to share that experience, good vid too man i’m in a rabbit hole of your channel now and subscribed :)

Sports betting in my opinion is an objectively bad thing. It's one thing to place a low stakes bet between friends at the bar, have some extra stakes in a game, whatever. But these companies are no different than casinos. The house always wins. Even if you win big, you don't. As with casinos, they are dependant on you losing way more often than you win, and if you win too much, you're a problem that needs to be dealt with, usually get kicked out of the casino or in this case be blacklisted from using betting services because you're too good (they think you're cheating). These seem like no big deal if you haven't been around gamblers, but if you've heard or witnessed the effects of a gambling addiction, you know it's no joke. It can and does ruin lives all the time all in the name of corporate profits who depend on that happening. It's here to stay because this Supreme Court is terrible. Just don't ever start or get tempted by the billion ads. It's no different than any other corporation trying to bleed you dry to squeeze every last penny they can and then move on to the next sucker.

Also can have an addictive quality. I would say it can/does hurt the true NBA fan by incorporating extra stuff that can have a bad impact under the guise of "making it more interesting". Money money money, the love of it is the root of all kinds of evil. That Tim Donaghy stuff was pretty wild. Didn't know about Jontay Porter, sheesh, what a silly fella for that one. If you haven't watched the Donaghy documentary on Netflix it's worth a watch. Also listening to Bill Simmons commentary is a must. Obviously the story is told from the side of the victor. The Jontay Porter stuff is truly embarrassing for him. Literally squandered an NBA career for a couple thou. All the work it took to get there just to lose it over a fraction of potential career earnings.
