We start our walk in the quiet village of Barley, in Pendle.
There's a pay & display carpark, but if you arrive early enough, you might be able to grab yourself some free parking outside of the carpark, down one of the side roads.
There's also:
- toilet facilities
- a cafe called the cabin, open around 9.30/10am.
- Pendle Inn, a pub just down the road from the carpark.
Pendle Hill is a fantastic walk, here on the outskirts of the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. The initial hill climb is quite tough, but if you just take your time, it's totally worth it for the views from the top!
Our route takes the more scenic descent down a valley alongside Ogden Clough, passing both upper and lower Ogden reservoirs, before returning to the starting point in beautiful Barley, Pendle.
We hope you enjoyed our film today, and let us know if you plan to walk up Pendle hill, Lancashire anytime soon!
I used eun up this hill when I was 5 with my family memorise ❤😢
run you say?! haha brilliant! What a place to go as a child, so much nature nearby. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
I used to do a bus route around here. Never got a chance to walk it. Maybe one day 👍🏻
Scenic bus route. Yes, perhaps you should! Short but challenging hike for you.
Thankyou for the video mate help a lot, just subscribed
No worries! Will be sharing many more from around Lancs and beyond 🤘🏼
@@LancashireLadsLife I am going to that walk very soon
Hi there welcome to my true home of my pendle hill .. this is the place where my true bloodline is originally from and lived before there deaths in 1612..I hope you enjoy my true home pendle ……….🌒🌕🌘
🧙🏻🐦⬛🕸️🕷️
I'm I going to Pendle Hill today and I've been when I was a little kid and I hated Pendle Hill
haha I bet it was a tough slog back as a kid! Hope you had a better experience the other day :)
As with the vast majority, you did the Big End, up and down from roundabout Barley. Nobody does the end to end walk, mainly because it's a peat-sloshing misery. My dad's house has a full on view of the Brast, and we never see anyone walking the length of it. For sure it is wonderfully photogenic, but apart from chuffing up the Big End it is not a walker's hill. BTW anyone who grew up under it just calls it Pendle. The 'Hill' part is redundant, and just too many extra syllables!
Yes, I have done quite a few routes up Pendle too, the other routes need more awareness, check out bit.ly/SummitElse where I helped the Forest of Bowland promote them earlier this year. The walk from Sabden along the main stretch is my favourite. Thanks for sharing your personal stories! 🤓
Thanks for making this available on UA-cam, greatly appreciated. Pendle is Pendle. If you’re meant to reach the top then you will, if not then you won’t. Tis a test of the person rather than how ‘tough’ Pendle is. It doesn’t matter which way you take to get there, once standing at the top and gazing down at the fields far below it’s easy to feel transformed by your accomplishment. Much has changed since my 1st trek to the ‘beacon’ in 1957 but the thrill of gazing down and leaning into the winds is still the same. Don’t race to get there and don’t be in a hurry to leave - just savour every moment as you add your presence to Pendle’s history.
I've been there with Holy Trinity in your five
what gps do you use?
Hi, I use outdoor active. There's a few decent ones but I like the user interface to outdoor active.
So...is it a tough walk?!
ahh that's for you to find out by doing it, surely! 🤪 Have you walked these parts before?
@@LancashireLadsLife No, never.
Ok so the walk here is pretty simple, the initial climb is fairly tough, it goes on a little while too, but beyond that... its all plain sailing, downhill from there. Views are amazing here as well. Let me know if you decide to give it a go!
@@LancashireLadsLife Went up today...ouch! Storm Otto didn't help. 40mph winds at the summit 🤣
@@alexrose9388 oh no haha! tough day! 🌪 Well done for getting up there!
It’s not a hill !
🤓 haha only JUST falls within what's classified as a hill, but nice try! 🤪
Gotta say it’s well worth the climb. I’m not too fit but not unhealthy either.
It definitely isn’t a hill !
@@elizabethcotton4659 Afraid you're incorrect on this one. Pendle Hill, is indeed a hill, with a marilyn classification.
@@wezboyes I know!! But it’s bloody hard for the unfit.
Great sense of accomplishment once you get there though x
@@LancashireLadsLifeI know!
Hard to see kiddies and oldies bypassing me !!
