The 5500 is starting to wake up a little bit. Although it’s slow compared to the F-450 I had it’s still more than adequate. If you don’t have the need for this heavy of a truck then I think a 3500 will be better in every way. This is a heavy, rough riding truck that won’t get anywhere near the fuel economy a 3500 will.

@@RicardoM24 I scaled the truck yesterday and it will carry a few pounds shy of 9000lbs. I’m over on the island and was just over in Abbotsford having the deck put on. I am really liking this truck so far. I had a bit of a sour taste in my mouth over the 2022 3500 srw I had last year which makes my more critical of these trucks. I think there was something really wrong with the rear suspension on that truck and it’s lack of towing performance was very disappointing. This truck handles the trailer and load very well and gives up nothing to my previous truck in terms of handling the heavy loads I haul. I’m going to end up doing another video hauling my 80 over to port Alberni when I start another dig over there. That will be a good test of the truck for sure. For what you are doing with your trucks I would lean heavily towards a 5500 if you are maxing out the 3500 with the brine tank. The other massive advantage with the 4500/5500 trucks is the wide track front end. They will turn in almost half the distance of a 3500 with the same length wheel base. That alone is huge for me.

I have been a Ram Cummins man, my whole life, I’ve always had the manual G56 transmissions, when Ram quit offering the G56, I switched to the 2022 Ford F450 Limited with the 10sp auto. I have a 48ft LUXE toy hauler I pull from my place in Kentucky to my house in Alaska. Our 2022 trip went perfect! Made the trip up from Vancouver BC no problem. This year, I broke down and bought a Laramie Ram 5500 just like that, but with the 12ft aluminum body. We eliminated the leaf spring suspension and with all air ride, witch made 100% difference in the ride. I figured of I leave the Cummins all stock it’ll be ok. So this year, we had the F450 under the 42ft flat bed pulling my ATVs and side by sides on, and the 5500 pulling my Toy Hauler witch is a lot heavier, and we done fine until we got about 80klm north of Hope BC on the Coq Highway pulling them hills the transmission in the 5500 started slipping so bad, we ended up having to trade out and put the F450 under the heavier toy hauler or we wasn’t going to make it. The Ram 5500 is junk, it’s still sitting in Alaska behind my shop in the bone yard, only has 4,920 miles on it. I’m either going to part it out, or stick a G56 in it, I’ve not made up my mind, but I do know this, I’ll NEVER buy another new junk truck like that again, I’m extremely disappointed in that thing, $140k in that truck, and it’s already in the bone yard. Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️
The F450 will out pull that Ram 10-1. From now on I’ll go ford of I buy new truck.

I had a 2019 F-450 limited that I wish I had never sold. It ran circles around this 5500. It got way better fuel mileage and had way more power. My 5500 had the clutch pack in the transmission replaced due to a recall before I ever drove it off of the lot. I wonder if your truck was one of the trucks that had the defective c-clip between the clutches that would break? I’m in BC and have driven those highways countless times. My F-450 pulled hard up the big hills. I also have a 2022 F-350 Tremor and the new generation powerstroke is a beast. Compared to the 2022 ram 3500 HO I had before it feels like it has 200hp more. Same thing with the fuel economy. It is 4-6mpg better while towing than the ram and about .5-1mpg better empty. I am not impressed with the ram trucks.

@@gravytrainoutdoors yeah likewise for sure, I’m not impressed with them either, in fact I’m disappointed with it. The 2019 you had would have had the 6 speed automatic transmission, if you had the 10 speed you really would have been thoroughly impressed with the performance with the F450. I know I am. When we pulled the stock suspension off my Ram 5500 and custom built the four link air ride suspension, unfortunately that voided the warranty of the Ram power train. I knew this before we did it, but I wasn’t happy with the way it was riding, so it was something I had to fix. I’ll probably end up pulling the automatic transmission and putting the G56 six speed manual, and doing some legal performance mods to the 6.7 Cummins. I have a 2016 ram tradesmen 5500 with the G56 manual, that I use to pull my farm equipment with, around southern Alaska, and I’ve been very happy with it, but I wanted the Laramie package to pull my toy hauler with, but the F450 Limited I have, blows that Laramie package out of the water, my opinion. So from here on out when I buy a new truck, it’ll be the F450 Limited, I cant think of one thing I like better about the Ram 5500 over the F450. Driving from Alaska to see my family in Kentucky we love going trough BC because i have family in Hope BC (I’m sure you know where that is) but also you know those hills is BC is no joke, and if you are pulling a 40k pound toy hauler, those Ram automatic trucks just can’t handle it, we almost didn’t make it to Alaska with with mine, pulling the lighter weight load, with a brand spanking new truck. Lol. Them ram enthusiasts can say what they want about them, but until they pulled a 40k load through BC, they haven’t proven anything yet!

@@alexanderlacy4005 I was working on a deal to trade the 5500 in on 2023 f-450 limited tonight actually! Hopefully they will give me enough on trade to make it worth while. I have a 2022 f-350 powerstroke and am blown away with the performance of that truck. I can only imagine how well it must do in the f-450. I factory ordered this 5500 with the heavy spec suspension and it is punishing. It rides worse than my dump trucks. That’s cool that you have family here. Hope is a nice little town. Famous for the movie Rambo being filmed there! I pull 35,000lbs day in and day out with my business and know what these trucks can and can’t do. The Ram just can’t match the ford sadly. The GM trucks are not even in the running. I have a friend that has several 3500 dually trucks that he hauls equipment with. They are breaking down all of the time. Blown up brake calipers and exhaust manifold gaskets seem to be the common theme for him. I think that the Cummins is very restricted with the emissions systems on it. They seem to have way more issues with dpf filters plugging up vs ford and gm and both this truck and the 2022 3500 I had before guzzle DEF. I’m going through a 2.5gal of DEF every 750 miles or so. I’ll keep my eyes open for your 48ft LUXE on the roads. I won’t miss seeing that beauty of a rig.

@@gravytrainoutdoors yeah you are exactly right. I have 11 hotshot trucks, and 32 semi trucks, and three tri-axle dump trucks operating in Alaska and western Canada, and the western USA. I do a lot of oilfield work on the Dalton Highway, and I have a reefer pharmaceutical haul coming up from California, to Fairbanks and anchorage, and on that run we run the Coquihalla Highway the river canyon highway 1, a lot, depending on the weather conditions. So yeah I can’t start to count the times I’ve been through there. Lol. It is beautiful though there, I really love it! But like you said, you can’t beat ford for their preference, as far as a new stock truck goes, the two F550 hotshot trucks I have are great trucks, they both have 400k miles on them, and no real issues to speak of yet. However, I do have one 2006 F550 that I bought that had low mileage, with a blown up 6.0. We pulled the engine out, and put a 5.9 common rail, Cummins with a 13 speed Eaton Fuller out of a semi truck, with a divorce transfer case, and custom drive lines, and banks adapter kit, to make everything work in conjunction with the Ford systems. At first we had to do a little tweaking, but that is a solid truck, and I have a husband and wife team driving it hauling John Dear tractors dedicated up from the lower 48, to Alaska, and that truck now has 1.1 million miles on it! By far the best truck I own, hands down. Lol.

@@gravytrainoutdoors another thing you can consider on your next purchase, is going with air ride over the stiffened leaf spring suspension, because there is nothing that can haul more than an air ride, all of my semi trucks are air ride, and we haul 80,000+ pounds all the time. Because an air bag only costs $100 or less, your back can never be replaced. You can do air over leaf spring, that is cheaper then what I did, and going with the total air ride with four link suspension system. You can adjust your air load with every load, so when your empty it won’t beat you to death.

Could this truck be ordered with 410 years Rachel Rearend Alexal after you put the rear bed bring it to the dealership again when I am on the warranty I have them do the alignment thank you 100% for hanging out with the Alexander before I left the I would have requested a sales representative to go with me on the first test drive I have learned that the hard way, so I made it a requirement and a company policy before even leaving the lot if the dealership would say no, I then rejected the perches and mediately traded it in for something else that is on the parking lot.
Now it is buyers beware, nowadays!
After the warranty, I would put a completely different switch from an auto to a stick shift and keep everything else although I would have to switch the transmission.
    Sincerely!

It certainly wouldn’t hurt. I have the 10spd in both my F150 and F350 and I have been very impressed with the transmission, especially in the f350. I honestly thought it would be unnecessary in a pickup but I was wrong. They are extremely efficient as well. Much more so than the Aisin or previous 6spd transmissions in the fords.

I worry that quality control has dropped on these new trucks. I have a bit of a weird noise from the engine that sounds like either exhaust or possibly lifter noise. I never heard anything like that on the 2022 3500 HO I had. It could be normal but it doesn’t seem like it
