    Rus, you are the Bomb!!!! great info and no wasted time on mindless chatter! Love your videos. I just purchased a G0704 CNC mill complete. and will probably improve it if need be with your videos. Thank You for your videos.

    Great video. It packed a punch. I need to go lay down now. I learned a lot about how those ball screws are machined to fit a given CNC machine. Thanks.

    Once again, great instructional video, I'm really new to machining but hopefully some day I will make it to your level of expertise. I've just bought a craftex cx601 mill which is a slightly bigger machine, I've had a g0602 for the pass 2 years and by your inspiring videos I'm convinced to cnc them both. if you have any suggestions that would make it easier for me please let me know. and once again keep up the good work.

      +Wendell Skeete Thanks!
      I just looked up that mill, it looks like a great one!
      I don't have anything off the top of my head as far as suggestions, but if there is something I can help with feel free to hit me up.

    Slick collet! Looks like machining that hardened ball screw wasn't too much of a nightmare. I was machining some 6 inch hardened well fittings awhile back, that was pretty intimidating!
    Quality work as always Russ!
    P.S. Shoot me a message, I've got something to send you.

    Ah, that sound the bearing surface makes when the ballscrew is scratching the inside bearing milling marks. Zzzzip! That's when you know it' s a perfect fit right?
    Subbed! Switch and Lever sent me ;)

      I think the whole thing is great and i would like to try it but what makes me change my mind is a lot of milling parts. No mill :(
      thanks Anthony

    Nice video. Question: Why did you make a bushing? Was there a problem with holding the ball screw in the 5c collet? Thanks.

    • @russtuff
      @russtuff  8 років тому +2

      +Franco Yes. I didn't have a 5C collet the right size and I didn't want to buy one for this one job. I've also heard that because the screw is so hard, the screw can possibly slip inside the collet. This may not be true, but since I already had the aluminum and I knew I could make this really quickly it just seemed like the best way forward.

    I been considering buying a mill a G0704 and converting it to CNC. Do you know of any companies that sell the CNC kits that just bolt up or do all of them requiring machining to convert to CNC. I know a company that sells the G0704 complete with computer and all for around $7,000. But saving $3000 sounds even better.

    Nice video! At least now I know how the short screws are machinned to fit (btw, if it were 600mm long, what would be the proper way?) Do you have a video explaining how to properly fit the screw, e.g. on a CNC mill? There are at least one bearing on each sides, but how do you fix it so that it doesn't move along the axis?

      +ljuberzy Thanks! This video is all I really have concerning the screws, but if you go check out +CNC4XR7 channel he is going through the process on a CNC mill conversion and has more great information.

    instead of water use gas then cut through the Flames it anneals while you're cutting .

    What kind of insert do you use in your knife while turning ball screw ?

    • @russtuff
      @russtuff  8 років тому

      +MisiomisiekK That was a CCMT for the turning. Not the best option, but it worked. The important thing is to choke up on the work and turn at a slow RPM. My lathe only goes down to 150RPM so that's what I used.

    Nice work, one thing is at .48 the lock nut moves on the tool holder when you are boring the work piece...
