No, this is 2002 (pre De-Loused) after Eva Gardner (bassist) left the group and before Juan became their permanent bassist. Ralph is playing bass here and Linda Good is filling in on keyboards while Ikey was unable to play. Marcel (percussion) does not become a permanent member until 2003, and Adrian (woodwinds) doesn't join the band until 2005.
It also depends on the quality of equipment recording the live show. You could go to a show and think it was amazing, yet find the same show on youtube and think that someone is trolling you... So yeah
honestly, i've been to several different Mars Volta and Omar's group shows and would agree that there's something missing in their live set. I think their monitoring (aka, gear) could possibly have something to do with it.
It always takes at least 2 years in either direction for a decade's style to truly die. These guys look actually about 15 years ahead of their time. And also 5.
His voice definitely improved over the years. His 05 and 06 performances are about a million times better than this. He's back in a slump now, but... hopefully he'll get out.
Off subject, I've noticed that at the drive in sounds really good live, yet really lacking something on the original recording. Anyway anything omar is good
the whole point of live performance is to be messy. its like sex, thats part of the apeal. i didnt mind the clapping. i REALLY want to see them live but im afraid it will be in some huge ass place and i want to be able to feel their energy and fear that any moment cedrics going to fall on top of me.
Agrees. Ced can NEVER hear himself. The boy should invest in some In Ear Monitors. Fantastic stuff, although with the volume they play at they probably won't be as effective. Might work on tracks like The Widow, Asilos Magdelna and El Ciervo Vulnerado tho, i guess.
Im so glad that they removed the drugs from them because they are so much better now. not saying this is bad, But its is awesome to see how far they have come in skill and popularity
I've honestly never heard TMv outside of my own CD collection, my Old University's jukebox and Q Magazine. Apparently they get played on XFM in Manchester sometimes, but I'm yet to hear that.
You guys realize your commenting on a video thats nearly 5 years old. There's no telling how much different cedric sounds now that its 07...correct me if im wrong though
@arvydas0069 Dude this was more than 8 years ago, live shows shouldn't sound like the studio work anyway, that's just bland and boring. I saw the mars volta in january and they were fucking amazing.
I understand why you dont like it. it's not accessable music. you should try listening to at the drive-in first and keep an open mind. What is music to you? there is no such thing as bad music. it is all a matter of taste. I didnt like it at first but after hearing it a couple of times it started to grow on me. now TMV is one of my vavorite bands.
i love the mars volta however the only time i got to see them was with A Perfect Circle and you couldnt smoke in the building take pictures or anything. however i was right up against the gate and they were amazing. some older douche bags in the crowd were throwing crap at them and they dismounted the stage after 40 min and 3-4 songs into deloused. :) :(
@arvydas0069 Dude, I'm seriously not trying to be an asshole or anything; I have nothing against you, but with all due respect, if you really would like to see a good emulation of a studio performance in a live environment, you could always just go see Green Day or something, but please don't complain about and/or insult The Mars Volta. No hard feelings.
a very very great band, i just hope they dont go commercial. most bands that r good, get better and then u c them all over mtv and then thier music starts going under. i hope these boys alwa=ys stay true if they do ill be a fan for life.
I like the sentiment, but that just sounds naive. There is such thing as porrly made shoddy music. While TMV are a fantastic group, their studio work far outshines their live performances. I think when they grow up a little more and settle into their style (if they last that long) we will eventually hear some truly terrific stuff out of them. Having said that, the energy and presence they have on stage is unrivalled. Love to see them collab'ing with Flea and Frusciante.
they are a horrible live band...always have been even back to the ATDI days. I don't know why they take the piss when they play live...their studio sound is amazing but its like they don't even try live. I'd never go to their show and waste my money...which is sad...I expect to see some effort not this "raw emotion and noise" shit
jesus christ then you don't appreciate or understand what a musician goes through when their live but you know what 7 years is a long time maybe you've matured musically
Now THIS is The Mars Volta!
+Goctagon Unfortunately not, Ikey is missing. Linda Good is horrible.
True. You've got a point there my friend.
Can you fill me in as to why exactly Linda Good is horrible? She sounds fine here, but I'm not a keys player.

Qué??? Quién grabó esta joya???!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Eternamente agradecida 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
its like mars volta but coming off so fresh from at the drive in that they are still wearing the atdi era clothes
It always takes at least 2 years in either direction for a decade's style to truly die. These guys look actually about 15 years ahead of their time. And also 5.
Love the whole free & artistic approach to this song & the drumming is phenomenal...sweet mercy. Clean as heck.

@@fanaticaldueling6337 Very few are able to sustain that range for long. Take Davey Havoc for example. Sadly Cedric is no exception. He lost it.

2023 here, he sounds fantastic live.
He got out, his voice is back with a vengeance

I've seen them twice and both times he nailed the whole set from start to finish for almost 3 hours. He's an amazing musician as are all the band
this is fucking amazing
i wish they'd kept making song like this
I'm trying to play this on the keyboard but my ring finger always flicks up

Hes actually worked on it heaps. hes spot on at most live performances now. but man you know how freaking hard it is to sing that stuf?! haha.
@ifightaliens Watching this two years later and it still blows my mind.
Does it still blow your mind?
