The story of Highway Star is that DP were on their way to play a concert. On board the coach were some music journalists and they asked DP how they came up with songs. Ian Gillan said like this, and Richie Blackmore started making up a guitar riff on the spot. Gillan started improvising some lyrics on the spot too. Ian Pace started tapping out a beat on his lap. Legend has it that the song was so complete that they played it that very night at the gig. This UA-cam cover version is excellent.

Although tomorrow I'll sing the Mozart's Don Giovanni, Mozart is my absolute Idol, from the beginning of my Life, the Magic 5 with Ritchie and John in the head, have gained a great place in my heart, in my veins flowing blood traces in a sea of Deep Purple, I have only one certainty. To my personal point of view, only to my nibs, my mind, The Deep Purple are: Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, RogerGlover, Ian Pace, John Lord. No one of them would be replaceable, much less Glover and above all Gillan, one of the best voices in the Rock History. Blackmore knew too much this but, as you guys know... the worst man's character of the Human History...ok, you know how things were going. I wanna say to you Guys, everyone of you is on Top, anyway, my eyes, guided by the ears, ran to the guitar. Fantastic technique, the solo is perfect but: THE ONLY WAY EVERYONE HAS TO PLAY Deep Purple is playng the R.B. White Fender Strato, without the Central Pick up, the only one, The original!!! And here I thought that Metal Church's cover was the best I'd heard. NOT!!!! All I can say is WOW! Incredible talent in this band! Spot on! Loved the mild embellishments on the behalf of the guitarist and keyboard player. Drums, bass and vocals were just as superb. So....this now ranks as the best cover of Highway Star that I've heard! Who is that amazing keyboardist 😶the intro of Jon Lord's solo is fucking amazing. Changing an iconic solo is very hard but the guitarist and the keyman nailed it👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Hands down the best version of this song, and that includes the original. The keyboards give it a bright feel that is suited to cruising at high speed on a sunny day. Big ups.
