In the old days, home security systems relied on copper landlines. They worked 99.9% of the time as a real landline doesn't need WiFi or electricity to work. The new stuff either uses internet or VoiP landlines, which requires both electricity. Sometimes newer isn't better. (You could say the same thing for those giant serving tray-sized tablets you have your anchors holding these days. It looks silly and the script reading was a lot better when you had a paper script. Go back to paper!)
