I had to come back and watch this again due to Western States 2021 a few days away. He is smashed in this interview. Lol love it.🤣🤣🍺🍺 Good choice of beer. We just had to rewatch this.haha.
Definitely deserves a beer or two after the training and hard work he's put into WS and running in general. Crush it Jim. We are all behind you, figuratively and literally, no matter what.
I don't run ultras, and I respect all of you that do. ALL of you, no matter what level of confidence or humility. That being said, I love this guy. Go Jim Go. 💪 🍻
This guy is the bomb! All love and no hate! For those who think he is cocky, please go check Strava and then come back. This is humble by definition. Go rock hard Jim!
how many beers has he had?....I think Jim's got a buzz going on.....BUT...He will kick ass this weekend. Love to see a SUB 14 ! Go for it Jim...and stay on course...
We are Seeing History being made with Jim,being someday recognized as the "Babe Ruth" of Ultra Trail running. A lot of great runners adding more to the early history of Trail racing. So many great Male & female racers.
4:10 Jim: "When you have 10 guys playing the safe smart game how's that going to work out?" Brain: "It worked out last year" #Burn #Ouch #Awkward #WhenTheTruthHurts
Pulling for you Jim, but no one has strung together all those splits. As Bryon hinted at, I hope just winning is #1 Plan and he doesn't allow sub 14 to lead to a bonk.
I am definitely rooting for Jim, but all of the interviews and media are basically giving him the race, as if it's his to lose. Can't wait to watch how this all plays out on Saturday!
I agree. We can't forget he has one 100 finish, last year's WS, and he was slowing prior to the wrong turn. That race could have been the race of his life. Tomorrow he may face gut issues, dehydration, roll an ankle, you just never know...or a hangover, lol.
Mensab every now and then we gotta have a Muhammad Ali type that ruffles the feathers. Too many years of hand holding at finish lines..the sport needs this rt now and it's exciting for 95% of ultra runners. Tough day, but he'll be back.
tmfjones you mad bro? wanna get in some fights on the trail? because he said pacifist clinton supporter? overreaction maybe? if you're gonna be mad, be mad that a plane never hit the pentagon on 9/11..cause thats what fucking pisses me off and should upset you too if you're american. ✌️
Also, what's with this amateur filming mistake? This guy is the talk of the town, let's have him in a shadow for half the interview like he's a witness on Unsolved Mysteries.
Jim is a great runner, but a bit too cocky for my taste. He's the best prepared and WS is a big deal, but I think this year's UTMB will be the real test... If he crushes it there, I'll take my hat off. I hope he doesn't win it so easily, that there's changes in the lead position so the race is fun to watch.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's good to have a mix of characters. You don't want everyone to be the same either. I guess it's just personal preference. If I had to choose between Walmsley's almost obsessive point of view towards crashing course records and Strava segments vs Kilian's more "go with the flow" take on things, I lean on the latter. It'd have been nice to see Kilian at WS this year, or Walmsley at Hardrock... I agree with you though: he's currently at a different level, but it's almost like there's no decent contender in the US. That's why I'm looking forward to UTMB or other international races, where he'd be racing against many strong european runners that don't do all the US races. ;)
not sure if you have been in chamonix. but UTMB is real mountain. i am sure it is very easy for him because he lives in flagstaff. Europeans are excellent with mountain running. Killian, Xavier, Francois....
Good comparison. I hadn't thought so much about Jim's background. Fair point. ;) What a surprise with the result though. I went to bed seeing that Walsmsley was 1hr ahead of the second already and thought there wasn't much more to see there. Then woke up scrolling down iRunFar's twitter feed surprised to not see him first, nor second, nor third... until I found out about his DNF. On one hand, kudos to him for aiming for the sky. He worked hard and would have definitely won if he hadn't been so ambitious. On the other hand, what a reckless and irresponsible way to loose the race. This will be tough. He's young. I hope he gets over it, but it'll be a tough one.
Oh Wow! I am so disappointed in Jim in this interview. :/ You are a Professional Athlete. All eyes are on you, including your Sponsors. Two days prior to one of the biggest races of your Professional career ? I don't understand. Do not throw away your shot! #unsat #completelywasted
This video is one of the main reasons I love Jim.
Drop them all Jim. Go get it.

Hell yeah, tis dude is already a legend. If he wins, it's just gonna be gigantic!
I don't run ultras, and I respect all of you that do. ALL of you, no matter what level of confidence or humility. That being said, I love this guy. Go Jim Go. 💪 🍻
I like his humility this time around when asked about other racers. Because of this, I think he's got a great chance to clinch this race.
This guy is the bomb! All love and no hate! For those who think he is cocky, please go check Strava and then come back. This is humble by definition. Go rock hard Jim!
This....is so bad ass, we will remember this race for along time.
I love his confidence!
Damn this going to be great, Representing Arizona heat runners!
That "You're welcome" at 4:13 killed me.
Walmsley is the man!
how many beers has he had?....I think Jim's got a buzz going on.....BUT...He will kick ass this weekend. Love to see a SUB 14 ! Go for it Jim...and stay on course...
Two. - bp
Oh, he's actually holding a BEER. I thought it was a second mike... XD
I was composing this very question when I noticed your post.
hammered
it is amazing that he can run so hard even after having few beers the night before. #dehydration! lol
I was thinking relaxed.......guess some of us have different definitions of "hammered" LOL
Haha tipsy interview ;) Such a talent!! But it didn't came easy. Countless hours of training and pushing his body to the limits. GO JIM!!!!
The new Double.. how many beers can you crush prior to setting a new CR
Josh Gum And then how many tequila shots you have at Hardrock. Although I believe Jim is not doing it?
Might've had one to many...
Lets hope not......
Guess we got the answer lol
woops
YES!!!!!!!!! Crush it Jim!
(My vote for drunk Irunfar interviewers. The discomfort is far less noticable)
I am wired to see how Ryan Sandes & Chris Mocko push things in the heat. Those are my sleeper picks to be there if Jim blows up.
Jim Walmsley and Chris Mocko both keeping it real and raw #nofucksgiven
We are Seeing History being made with Jim,being someday recognized as the "Babe Ruth" of Ultra Trail running. A lot of great runners adding more to the early history of Trail racing. So many great Male & female racers.
Jimmy, you're really high on this one ! 🍺😵
Loving it ! 😃
you're the best Jim
Living the DREAM!
Man of the Hour
13:51 gives him enough time to lounge around at the aid stations, go to the bathroom. LOL
Running should be rock'n roll... Jim is rock'n roll! :)
4:10

Awesome 💪🏾
Definitely had a few beers before this

Jim rocks😁😁🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🤟🤟🤟
Set the speed to 0.75 and even Bryon sounds drunk!! :)
Werk it Jim!! Best of Luck!!
Best of luck to you!
yessssss

Wow..... quiet confidence.... Jim's going to CRUSH the course!!!
Conor McGregor of ultrarunning
What is the movie that he mentions? Something about "nine mile asylum" or nine minus asylum?
Under pressure!
I didnt realize western states was a beer 100
His 2014 Speedgoat interview here: ua-cam.com/video/dlkyDW_rFd8/v-deo.html
Wonder if the beer helped with the stomach issues?
Record pace with near record heat?
Who are his pacers?
didoma73 I believe Tim Freriks and Thomas Puzey
Check the new Gingerrunner episode where he states this.
He's skinny and fit probably just need 2 beers to get him into this state.
this might be my favorite iRunFar video ever!
I can't wait to watch Jim kill WS100 this year...CR is going down...
Yeah, give him a break. #gojim
Are they standing in the water (Or in Walmsley's case, on the water)?
Jim, this question is for when you come back to social media. How drunk and or stoned are you in this interview? #stopjim
Thank god Myke Hermsmeyer is taking over Jim's social media accounts. What a travesty it would be if nothing was posted for the next two days.
#drunkwamsley
It looks like they are in the water. :P
Damn. "You're welcome" ??? Hold up. Be humble. Sit down.
Mensab every now and then we gotta have a Muhammad Ali type that ruffles the feathers. Too many years of hand holding at finish lines..the sport needs this rt now and it's exciting for 95% of ultra runners. Tough day, but he'll be back.
Muhammad Ali actually won fights. Jim is 0/2 at WS100
mensab sounds like a pacifist clinton voter
oh yeah and you're the nazi who doesn't actually run ultras but watches ultra videos. u better hope you don't meet me on the trail one day
tmfjones you mad bro? wanna get in some fights on the trail? because he said pacifist clinton supporter? overreaction maybe? if you're gonna be mad, be mad that a plane never hit the pentagon on 9/11..cause thats what fucking pisses me off and should upset you too if you're american. ✌️
lol I think he has a had few.🍻

This ain't filmmaking, it's an interview... although the location was chosen be... filmmakers. - Bryon
I always run in the shadows
Yes! The clap back! Fantastic.
why would you drink beer before a 100 miles race. wtf lol
Man, Walmsley is cooked.

This will be tough. He's young. I hope he gets over it, but it'll be a tough one.
At UTMB he couldn't compete with the big boys.
Maybe give Jim a second chance at this interview? I find him super inspiring, but He's a little too sloshed for this to be watchable.
Wow, he is actually drunk...not so very cool is my first thought, but hey, its his race and life after all. Go Elov :-)
Oh Wow! I am so disappointed in Jim in this interview. :/ You are a Professional Athlete. All eyes are on you, including your Sponsors. Two days prior to one of the biggest races of your Professional career ? I don't understand.
Do not throw away your shot! #unsat #completelywasted
"You're welcome." Ugh.
doesn't seem drunk to me...
No not drunk but maybe a little tipsey.
one too many may have led to a DNF...
He is drunk?This is weird.
