This was my first experience with an IBM computer back in 1980. Used a specially developed app to help do optimizations for animal feed at the headquarters of a leading regional farmers Co - op.
It broke one day, an IBM "CE" came out to fix it. Asked him how to get a job fixing these things, he pointed me to where to send in my resume, and 2 weeks later was hired my IBM as a CE. Started a long and wonderful career in IT.
This was the time when Apple II's, TRS-80's, Commodore PETs, and CP/M computers were available. Good times.

In 1978, this was the first computer I ever professionally programmed. I was a work-study student at Ohio State University, and I computerized the inventory of the fixed asset department. Learned how to spell vacuum, too. There is a switch for APL (IBM's universal language {A Programming Language that failed) and a version of basic. The tape cartridge could store large arrays of data. Totally cool, back then.

I also used this in 1978, borrowing a couple of times from my Dad's friend at IBM. I learned to program on it, (thousands of lines of code, which was difficult because the Basic language seemed to support only 10,000 line numbers) mostly in Basic because the APL was a little confusing to me at that age. I never thought to open it up, so this video was enlightening for me.

How amazing to see such high quality imagery of this. Unfortunately this is not one of the 64KB BASIC/APL models. (It is missing the switch that toggles the two languages). For those Stein's;Gate or John Titor fans, he would need the APL model, so this one is staying in the past.

What a wonderful old machine, thanks for showing it to us, people forget how far we've come. Machines like this one laid the foundation for the computers (and that includes phones) everyone is watching UA-cam on.
Just looked it up, it had an IBM "PALM" processor running at 1.9 GHz, 16 KB to 64 KB of RAM and sold from $8,975 for the 16k model to $19,975 for the 64k unit. (Thanks Wikipedia). That's in 1975 dollars folks, $19,975 translates to over $86,000 of today's inflated dollars!

One of the first machines to offer a turn key Basic it also had APL as an option which was normally only available on mainframes.
The only two machines I know that offered that feature prior was the HP 9830A and the Wang 2200 but they only offered Basic.
Most small machines from the era such as the Altair 8800 and IMSAI 8080 made famous from war games needed a boot loader toggled in or had a simple boot rom and then Basic had to be loaded off paper tape.

John Titor was 100% real. But you cant expect his worldline to be identical to ours. That goes against what we know of the multiverse. All possibilities are playing side by side in the quantum universe at the same time. Basically Titor's catalyst e vent that launched the world on to a path towards civil war, martial law, nuclear WW3 was the Y2K bug. In ours? 9/11.
His 2004 is more like our 2016 only more technologically advanced in society and more dumbed down in divided.
Titor said there was civil unrest before the 04' elections. Unrest is growing before our 16' elections. He said by 2005 our 2017 that a civil war would begin with standoffs by patriots against the Federal government and their Federalized police, that grew and grew and that major cities became unsafe due to civil unrest by protestors. We have already seen the patriot movement growing, and just recently in Oregon a standoff against the Federal government by militia and patriots. Obama put together the program to continue the militarization of the police and a federalization program.
Titor said a nuclear WW3 was kicked off when a European Army based out of Germany moved on to Russia's border in the Baltics. Right now Germany is spearheading the effort to put together a European Army outside of NATO and are starting to do war games this summer in the Baltics near Russia's borders. Russia has been condemning NATO and the EU about it, and calls it provocation for war.
Titor said CERN would discover time travel when doing high energy experiments to detect other dimensions and create mini black holes. They are 100% doing that now.
Titor said that China would advance on the U.S. The Spratley islands in the South China sea is the trigger that is pitting the U.S. Navy and Chinese Navy against each other.
Titor said China annexed Taiwan before "N-Day" China is very aggressive towards Taiwan right now and has said they would consider annexing Taiwan by force.
Titor said in the future there are high speed trains that connect major cities. Elon Musk is developing Hyperloop trains to connect major cities.
Titor said computers are immensely more advanced and faster. We now have quantum computing and is currently in its infancy.
Titor said after N-Day WW3 people came together at Universties which were turned in to "forts" to rebuild communities by patriots. As of this year the Oathkeepers organization has begun to create chapters at Universities to help create "Community Preparedness Teams"
      Shall I go on???

Cut my teeth on that. Use to go with my dad in the 70's to the IBM office and play football on the demo machine there. Late 70' I went to work with IBM as a CE, got trained on 5100, new 5110 with 8 in diskettes, the 026, 029 and 129 keypunches, and the 3741. What fun, you had to work and be mechanically inclined to fix these.
