That is true. The purple tops have EDTA which is an anticoagulant, that's why you need to invert the sample as well as make sure you fill it with enough blood. Red top tubes don't have any additives. I did read the insert that comes with the test and it lists EDTA for whole blood or plasma and for serum you would need the red top tube. A gold top tube for serum would be fine but you would need a centrifuge to spin the cells below the gel. There are other instructions on the product insert that you can follow. You don't need a centrifuge to separate serum or plasma. You can sit the tubes upright and let the cells settle to the bottom, since they are heavier. A centrifuge does a better job, but as long as you can fill the red top pretty good you should be fine. As lab tech, we would let the samples sit at room temp for eight hours before transferring them to the fridge. I have an unrelated question to the video. I'm new to your channel and noticed in this video that you have this red metal stanchion. We're about to install one and have NO idea how to stabilize it. This is our first cow and she's going to be calving any day now. Do you have any suggestions of where I can find a video or other source of info on how to hang one of those? Thank you so much for your content. It's been so helpful. Blessings.
Congrats! Glad to help 😊 I installed mine in this video right here and went over the whole process: ua-cam.com/video/utp9l9RW6Fw/v-deo.html The only thing I would suggest different is putting it a little lower. Somebody mentioned that in the comments, and after lookin at it I agree. Should probably be 6"-12" lower than what mine is. Feed pan should be lower too. Planning to lower mine, but haven't got to it yet 😁
Center of the tail about 4-6 inches up from the bung hole. Don’t push the needle all the way in. Push in slowly until you hit it. I’ve had talk struggles finding it too 🥴 Here’s an earlier video I did that should be helpful. ua-cam.com/video/sv6N3_45s5U/v-deo.htmlsi=OKDrZ9XbyJK7LEp7
That's interesting. I've heard they are pretty accurate. But either way I will be relying about just as much on whether I see her go into heat again or not. I was pretty skeptical about this time because I was pretty sure she had gone into heat. If I don't see any more signs of heat and get a positive preg test that's pretty certain. No need for a tech.
@@morethanfarmers I will be following along! ☺️ I personally have never preg checked without my AI guy drawing blood and sending it in so that’s why i ask😊 cant wait!
Loving all your content brotha! We just got our first two Jersey milk cows 😬….. your videos have taught me a lot so far, I appreciate you!
Thanks man! Congrats on the cows! Can’t wait to see a video about em 😏
Your suppose to use the purple top vial. It has a anti clotting agent in it.

@@morethanfarmers Do the tubes come with the needles and needle holder? Thank you,
I heard that those tests aren’t accurate will you test her again through a ai tech or vet?

Can you use a regular pee on a stick pregnancy test?
Sorry to hear that Maddie is not pregnant. I guess a bright spot is, you didn't waste your money on having her rebred.
Haha right 😏 Small consolation, but I'll take it!
I request for your WhatsApp, I'm a veterinarian from Uganda.
