Fantastic video (and track selection). I was a little hesitant about buying one of these because of how limited DMX controlled lasers have been in the past, but this thing seems to do most things that "pro" lasers costing thousands will do!
You can tell I don't know much about these things I find it fascinating and I like to learn do you think or can you tell me can you aim the beam towards the floor like a ballroom floor or does it have to be in the are away from people's eyes
I've noticed that one of the beam on mines is off- set/crooked. JW if yours the same. Or did the manufacturer purposely angle the beams like that? Does the beams on yours shoot out evenly? Also do I need some kind of controller to do the effects you did on yours.? If so what do you use?
Yes I noticed on one of my lights the mirror is slightly off. I don't recommend this but I tried to adjust the mirror by loosening the support screws and then adjusting it. It worked a little bit. But again I don't recommend doing this because it will void any warranty you might have.
Thanks for watching. This is right in the middle when it comes to price for a good laser light. I would only use this light if I can fog the room. Otherwise you will only see the light on the target it is pointing to. You will loose the body of the light without any particles in the air.
Good video, I just got this light today and I’m having some trouble with the sound active mode. I have 2 kinta FX and those sound modes work great (both at full mic sensitivity). However the scorpion seems to act differently: when I set the mic sense to 1 (lowest), it never turns off even when I stop the music, and when I turn it to max sense (9) it barely reacts. Not sure what’s going on? Any help would be appreciated.
Download the Manual from the Chauvet website if you don't have it. Check this.. You have two settings to check. First press the Menu button until you see AUT. This is the Automatic Program settings. Choose up or down until you change this to So1-6. These are the Sound Active Programs. Then also change the Sound Sensitivity settings by pressing menu until you see S 0-9. This is better explained in the manual, page 9
Nice video! I'm in the market for some cool effect on stage lighting for my band. I was wondering how wide is the light beam and do you think I would need 2 of them to do Clubs?
First off, thanks for watching. The light has a 36 Degree coverage angle. I filmed this video in my garage. The light is pointing towards my garage door and width of the light is around 8 feet. The actual unit was around 20 feet away from the garage door. So use this to determine the coverage for your venue. I always feel that Laser lights are really skinny and for a band you would want a "fatter" beam to either point up or to place behind the band. I like this light but I don't think it will give you much for use with a band.
What type of controller did you use? what are your recommendations? Not looking for anything crazy. I saw the Obey 3. Thanks for the video, really helpful and straight to the point!
Thanks for watching. When I recorded this video I used an Obey 70. If you are going to use a controller with this light you want a controller with at least 10 channels.
@@Housemix10 appreciate the reply! After much research I'm digging the obey40 as I also have a fog machine. My light arrives tomorrow. I'm beyond stoked
So can you control the brightness of each individual laser? Like what if I want just one solid beam or the beams to be at drastically different angles. Is that an achievable effect with this light? If not, is there a better product for doing that?
Hey thanks for Watching. No this light does not have a Dimmer control. The laser is either on or off. There is a Strobe feature but you can only control how fast the laser strobes. Maybe if you connect multi of these lights up to some DMX software you can achieve what you are trying to do. But from one single light I am not sure if they come with dimmers at this price point.
When you power it on the light has a continual movement and a cooling fan that is always on. I have had the light shinning for about 20+ minutes at a time. I don't see a Duty rating in the manual. I don't want to tell you that you can have this contently on for hours but I don't see why you could not. Thanks for watching
Yes the laser can cover a large room. I used it in a School Cafeteria and it looks good. I needed to fog up the room for the light to have some good body. I have seen some other scorpion lights and I would say it is better because you can change the laser color to multiple colors.
Does your unit make a loud sound from the movement of the internal parts? Mine seems to work well, but it is louder than expected. Of course, it can't be heard over the music.
Most lasers in this price range are not the "brightest". In order for this light to really POP you need a dark room and there must be something in the atmosphere like fog or haze. If you check out my video "Behind the Mix- Quarantine Edition Vol 5" at the 11:58 mark I am using two lasers and there were pretty bright. Let me know what you think.
I have not been able to control my scorpion rgb dual like you were able to. I wanted ask what channel this you select on the unit to enable your dmx controller to have such control???
As long as the light is set up to the channel that your DMX controller is set up too you should be able to control the light. Try making is to Channel 1 and set your controller to address 1 and try to control the light.
Not really. It is best to use these lights with a DMX controller. If you use a DMX application then it is even easier. You can set up different routines or control the movements on the fly.
Does it work like this straight out of the box? Because I bought a kinta FX that seemingly does more but I can't make it do much Beyond some basic stuff without special tools I think
Out of the box most lights will just to 2 or 4 standard programs. If you want to have total control over your lighting you need to hook them up to a DMX controller. That way you can set all the different options the way you want and make any type of combination your light is capable of doing. Thanks for watching.
