I love this video. I've said this before. You are the best potter on the tube. So precise and expectant of excellency in your work. Thank you so much for your commitment to your followers. God bless
Thanks for the kind words. It can be difficult to take the time to make videos and also know how to explain all that we’re doing on the wheel. I enjoy it but at times I can’t justify the time and energy. Cheers!
Thanks Matthew! Having a cup of coffee from one of your mugs and watching you make something pretty. Nice way to spend a few minutes. Putting this on my long list of things to make.
Your planters are beautiful - thanks for making this video. If you do make bird houses, please remind everyone that they would need to be in complete shade. It would make a little oven in the sun.
Thank you. I am excited to try this. I love how you talk through what you are doing and why during your throwing. I am learning so much and it keeps me motivated and throwing!!
This was just the video I needed to see! I have been playing with throwing hanging planters but was making them in two pieces and then joining them. I am excited to try this way!! Beautiful! Thank you!
Cool idea Matt! That's how I make large hanging bells. I'll try making this planter to hang next to the bells on the back-covered porch. The joy of ceramics is that the ideas never end! Thanks for all the explanation narrative as you go.
Just recently discovered your site. I was very interested in your faceted bowl. Nice work!!!! I'm a big texture guy! Always looking for other ideas, Thanks for your vids..
You mean there is more to make than just bowls and mugs? 😄 There is a friendly lady down the street from me who has a quite nice garden and since Christmas is not that far away I think I better get busy. Now to just get that contrary ball of clay centered without turning half of it into mush. Thanks for the ideas.
Made a similar hanging pot. Took 3/8 x 1/4 short piece wood and contoured crescent shape on a end and used as shaper for opening while throwing. Then just sponge finish while holding in lap once a little dry. Thanks for you tubes.
What about something like a Grecia vase but cut at an angle so it can be hung against a fence for a herb garden? Would it be strong enough to support itself?
Thank you so much Matt! Would you mind sharing the wire you are using to make the hanging part? I use a stainless steel on my hanging items, however yours looks much sleeker.
Hello Matthew, two questions. Who do you order the trimming tools from, and the centering pad you put in the bottom of the planter when trimming the top?
Hi I was wondering if you could share recipe for you wading. I made some and it does not want to come off the pots without chipping. Thanks live your videos. I have learned so much from you. I have also made these hanging pots and having issues like I sais.. thank you
I recently had to add ball clay (om-4) to my recipe because it didn’t roll into balls easily but it still fired out great. Probably 1/2 - 1 parts ball clay added to the recipe.

Your videos are always a pleasure. Thank you for doing what you do, and for being the kind of guy others (like myself) look up too.

Beautiful, cannot wait to see how you hang them. I appreciate your videos!
Thanks for sharing how you make these! I've never seen that technique of lifting underneath from the center. I can't wait to try it!
Good luck. I learned to make raised lids this way almost 30 years ago.

I’ve made some vases (14” high) by building up with coils. How to build a flat top for them?
