Keep going out there I'm new to and it happen to me the first couple of times I lost a rod, anchor and new stringer. But I still keep going out there when I can
@@TxTandem. yeah you’re going to have trips like that. We still have them till this day, I kayak solely with the wife. Some trips can be difficult due to the weather period. Then you got to remember, sometimes you got to get wet and walk it out to deeper water. It will give you less of a chance of blowing back against the bank. Then I got rod holder extension for those molded rod holders. It will also keep your reels from getting splashed so much. When I’m casting I pull them down on that side so I don’t forget and hit them. That’s another bad way to lose a rod and get all tangled up. Also get a stringer clip to attach to your kayak, I have lost one of my best stringers of fish like that. I found them however with the coated stringers today. When I was trying to get them in every fish came right off. I was sick that day, I had 2 reds and 4 drums. Just some kind words from my experiences that may help you out.
Thanks for sharing. A few more trips and you will be good! Does that drive float or do you have a leash for it? I bet the reel was a pretty penny! I would get cheap reels in case they get dunked. Maybe the floats that go on the rod to recover them. Congrats on the first yak fish!👍
I need to go back to the drawing board and review everything man so I don't lose anything thing else, I also have to find a way to make a float for my drive too. Thanks for the words bro!
New rod holders bozo❤ keep going strong! Live learn vato! From a white boy from the valley. Get back out there brother! Kayak fishing ain't easy just have fun and smile! In time you will be going btb. Off SPI! ROCK ON!❤❤
Bro! That sucks! 🤦🏻♂️🤣 BUT!!! The only way to learn is to get out there. You have to experience to get experience. Already cause of that trip you have learned a few things. Like #1 port Mansfield is WINDY AS HELL!! 🤣 just be safe and wear your safety gear. Definitely do not give up. Get out there and Show em your Stuff🤟🏻
Damm bro sorry about your rod.😢 but ya don’t let one trip discourage you. It just takes practice and patience till you get it right. You will get there I promise. Just keep at it. Tight lines brother!
Tandem!!! Man I wish I was there to guide you bro! Don’t let this discourage you my man, it happens to the best of us. At least you did not tip over like I did when I first went out.
Dam brodi I feel you on loosing your combo I lost my saragosa to a jet ski didn’t fish for days after that lol 🤣🥲 you’ll be back n better no se awite 💯🎣🔥
Port Mansfield can get sporty man. Keep at it.. a couple things I'd recommend you doing differently. That's where I fish out of the most. Be careful of the south winds in the summer.
a friend of mine just bought himself a kayak, also and we are waiting for a good day to go out behind the convention center so he can get his feet wet.
I’ve dropped a rod in packery channel a couple times. Abu Garcia inshore rev03, lucky the rod did float. Then dropped a Stradic in at brown on roots flats, it was probably the part of the damn flat. I went in after it and found it. 😂😂😂
Kayak fishing is definitely an acquired taste. I’ve had a crack in one and about sinked it in that exact spot. Also, I’ve forgot my pedal drive at home too lol
Bro just keep at it i made some rod holds out of pvc and had to change the rudder string to steel wire that has the vinyl coated with some wire stopper i have a hoodoo tempest 120pd
Port Mansfield is not a good place for a first timer. Try South Padre very calm and clear. I have lost four rods and reels. It comes with the territory. I now take only less expensive ones with me on kayak. I landed a 31.5 inch red a couple of weeks ago with a 29.99 rod and reel combo. Every trip, something different comes up. Just be prepared.
Nooooo not the Calcutta!! Damn bro sorry about that, I’d recommend making a custom rod holder out of pvc. I had one that goes into both rod holders, and connects together to sprout out more rod holders high behind your back. Gets them out of the saltwater splash and they are way more secure brotha. Sure there are some nice tips online on how to make one.
Respectfully everything that can go wrong went wrong but it's all about trial and and error. I sold my big game yak and bought a sesdoo fish pro and still lost a rod and reel to the ocean lol. I learned to use a leash reel quick 😅. It don't matter who you are I believe everyone has lost a rod and reel to the water and if they say they didn't they lying 😂😂
@@TxTandem. yes sir, I highly suggest to go with a group if possible for reasons like that. We’re all out there to help others man don’t ever feel embarrassed because we were all there at one point
1. Don’t get discouraged. I’m noob too and have done some stupid stuff too on the water 😂
2. Get some rod holders
Thank you bro! Already got that done!
I dropped my spin fisher at the wall in harbor and jumped in… I found it :) , but Damm man hurts to see this happen fr :(

Don’t get discouraged bro, that’s how it went for me the first couple times. Once i got it dialed in i killed it. Keep at it
Thank you man it was just a very different experience

There is an awesome grass flat about 400 yards northeast of that area. Great spot for reds!
Thank you bro!!
Just keep on keeping on, man! At least you caught some fish!!!
For sure brother!! I saw you in the morning buying bait in port mansfield but you were walking fast outta the store to say good morning lol

You'll get the hang of it. Never trust weather apps. They never seem to be right on the winds!
Thanks bro!
@@TxTandem. I have a SW125 and fish mainly PM. Do not even attempt to go out much since the winds refuse to give us a break
