    hello mate…ex pat Kiwi watching from over here in Oz…had the EGR and intake manifold decoked professionally on my 2004 Hilux Turbo Diesel…they used a pressure clean and solvent system…cost me a pretty penny but it was worth it…also had the EGR deleted at the ECU..(no blocking plate). One of the best mods you can do on these 1KZTE motors is a 3 inch exhaust…you don’t have to spend big on a stainless steel name brand…just go to any muffler shop and get a mild steel mandrel bent unit…does exactly the same thing as a high end system…a 3inch hole is a 3inch hole…they can do it in under 4hrs…$480 bucks…thats en extra 3hp right there …money well spent!

      Thanks for the comment. Definitely goes better with that muck cleaned out of the intake and EGR blocked off.
      Yes I have heard about upgrading the exhaust, especially the dump pipe off the back of the turbo is really good upgrade as the factory bend tightens causing a bit of a bottle kneck. Have been meaning to make a new exhaust up for quite sometime now, although my time seems to end up going into my other cars unfortunately.

      @@4AGEEDGarage do these 1kzte engines have EGR coolers?

    • @4AGEEDGarage
      @4AGEEDGarage  Рік тому

      @@russellking9762 no they don't, hot exhaust gases flow through the engine which decreases performance, and obviously adds more heat which isn't good for the 1kz heads which commonly crack.

    1KZ engines benefit from:
    Opening up the spill valve a bit more
    Bigger exhaust
    Air filter upgrade
    EGR system cleaned out
    Bit more boost
    Injector nozzles cleaned/replaced and opening pressures reset.
    Factory ceramic glowplugs replaced with Italian made Twin-coil steel glowplugs.
    Factory hose from intercooler to inlet replaced with quality silicone hose.
    The small charcoal filter in the boost pressure line deleted and replaced with a tiny paper inline fuel filter.
    Replacing EDC-V4 injector pump ( which really are uber reliable) with a 4M4O-T or a modified 2L,3L or 5L mechanical pump.

    I started taking my intake off today but the EGR nuts are really seazed up so will soak it with penetrant and try again in a few days. I see you got your EGR nuts off the intake side. My intake looks about the same as yours for build up of crap. Doing the injectors, timing belt and install an EGT. Along with a list of other modes and upkeep. Thanks for showing me how it is done, what to expect and the confidence boost. Nice job and look forward to more.🇨🇦

      Welcome, no downsides at all or any error codes. I was expecting an engine light or something to appear, but nothing. All vacuum lines and electrical plug still connected to egr valve. Performance is better now without the exhaust gases going through the head and ports clean.

      Hey mate. I cleaned the main intake manifold throttle body only, but not the egr valve butterfly as it on the otherside of the blanking plate, no gases flow through egr valve since being blocked off.
      My Surf runs great and not one issue since blocking it off.

    Hey So those two bolts on the exhaust manifold I got the top one, but the bottom is stripped and afraid I’ll snap it if I go any farther with a wrench extractor bit. So if I just disconnect the egr pipe from the intake manifold side where it runs into the egr itself 2 bolts there and block that side, will I have back pressure issues? Like higher egt’s as well? Since exhaust gas will still be able to move through the egr pipe before the manifold intake? Thanks from America 🇺🇸 great video.

    • @SamFixesThings

      Also did you have to bleed injector air or prime the fuel system as well, or does it all sort itself out once running for a bit.

    • @4AGEEDGarage
      @4AGEEDGarage  8 місяців тому +1

      @@SamFixesThings thanks for the message. No good about your stripped bolt. Unsure if it will disrupt flow if the exhaust side isn't removed. In my mind I think there would be some disruption but I'm no expert. The injector pump sorted itself out by itself for me, had to wind it over for a bit before the diesel reached the injectors.

      Was flushed right out multiple times with brake cleaner after scraping, wiping the ports. Any possible crud would be minimal, if any, and no difference to the rest of the crud the engine has sucked through from the egr in the past.

    Hey when you took your inlet manifold off did you remove the fuel lines first? I’m having trouble getting the last nut in the bottom corner. Also idk how you got the nuts off for the egr exhaust pipe. That’s footage I would pay for. I had to chop mine

    • @4AGEEDGarage
      @4AGEEDGarage  5 днів тому +1

      I used a special tool to remove the fuel line nuts, same one as pictured on this link. www.supercheapauto.co.nz/p/toolpro-toolpro-spanner-set---3-8-drive-crows-foot-flare-nut-13-piece-metric/591843.html#start=42 .
      Egr on exhaust side I brought a cheap socket and cut it down for one of the bolts and used a strong bar. The bottom bolt was the challenge, top one was fine and loosened straight away.

      @@4AGEEDGarage I’m having a hard time getting that last nut holding the inlet manifold on. It’s right next to the oil filter, the very far bottom right nut. I had to remove the fuel lines first. I hit it with some pb blaster. Hoping it comes off. Not much clearance.
      Im kinda screwed if I don’t get this manifold off because the EGR is stuck between the firewall and manifold.

      @@N8_10 have you removed your oil filter to give you more room?
