I liked the part where the present gets delivered to the wrong person and mom gets a replica of Patric's wedding tackle. ...and yes... even that bit is authentic.

Yes! Although I do like Friends too, but Coupling has better comedic acting and better writing than Friends (especially considering the later seasons of Friends were the plots and writing was soooooo bad!!!)
@@andrewjones575 because friends is an American TV show and designed for mainstream consumption. Few know of shows from the UK, or any other country for that matter. Recall this was back in the day when streaming wasn't possible on the Internet.
Perfect example of how you can write a show primarily about sex and have it actually be funny instead of just childish and grubby. Or even *as well as* childish and grubby, if you really nail the balance between humour and smut.

I am American, and I have to admit that British and American humor/humour are completely different. While Mark Twain and Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett have similar types of humor, they are still completely different in content.
Some American comedy shows are good, but a lot are very wishy washy, about families getting into silly situations and overall they are just way too "nice". They tried to re-make Fawlty Towers for the American market (though millions of americans do like Fawlty Towers they way it is) and each time it never worked cos they tried to make it much "nicer".
I was in my thirties when this came out. Throughout the run of the series I was in “love” with Susan, and secondly Gina Bellman. For some silly reason I had no love for Kate Isitt, I don’t know why. Now in my fifties I actually LOVE Kate Isitt! I must have been brain addled or something because that woman is just perfect. So it has been fun watching my old Coupling DVDs and loving Kate.
@@FiliusFidelisI guess I should have used the actor’s name rather than her character! I ask you and Sarah Alexander for forgiveness.🙏 I was really into Susan back in the day. I mean like worse than Jeff in episode one!
One of the reasons why Coupling works so well is that everyone can sort of identify with _all_ characters. And that's because each character was designed to represent a specific aspect of every man and woman: Jeff and Sally represent the inner monologue (neurotic, insecure, constantly afraid of saying the wrong thing, etc.). They're the part you're afraid other people will see. Patrick and Jane represent how everyone _wants_ to be (effortlessly sexy, confident, and not giving a toss about what anyone else might think). Steve and Susan (who, BTW, are named after the writer and producer) represent the "civilised" image we try to present to others, while struggling with the previous two aspects.
🤔hmmmmm, I don't know if anyone else out there had thought about this before or not. Maybe it just could be me on the other hand too. Coupling kind of reminds me of a combination of friends and sex in the city but more comical and much better too. Well anyway it does. I think that PBS needs to put the show back on their channel. Good shows like this are hard to come by and find today.
