I love the videos, just started surfing a few weeks ago. Getting out the back has been exhausting and took forever! Today was the first day I felt like I went anywhere when paddling. Had more time to actually catch waves!
Very important to focus on using your back, chest, and arm muscles and not your shoulder muscles as much as possible. Prevent injury and paddle harder and for longer
Awesome merch an awesome instruction awesome high quality video production with always really cool music. Every time I watch one of your videos I feel like I'm there surfing with you guys getting personal instruction and that feels amazing... Keep doing what you do cuz you're great at it! Keep doing what you do because I appreciate it! Happy surfing from Virginia Beach! :-)
Hi Ryan, thanks for the vid, re kicking legs, what about if you are on a 7ft+ board and your feet are on the board and not in the water? I kick my legs up anyway as it helps me to pop up, not for generating momentum
I tested the kicking theory in a pool. Did not generate any forward thrust at all. Waste of energy, and it never helped me catch waves easier either. Try it yourself
Capped hands? I heard that's not good for reserving energy (as capping hands requires more energy than relaxed palms). I've also read a research about swimmers who have more propulsion from relaxed hand as air trapped between fingers doesn't allow water to move through the hand therefore increasing the effective paddling area .
Another great video. One thing with surfing I realized is I fix one problem and another one shows up. I'm at the paddling phase of my surf journey and boy do I still suck. Thanks again.
@@Durtydee904 Went out this morning and definitely see the growth. Trying out different boards to force my muscles and mind to adapt. Still learning and still not great, but a lot better than last year. I love it.
Kicking the legs is a waste of energy. They are not in the water enough to generate speed and they would be more efficient in the pop when they are not kick. There are a lot of places like east Florida with nesting beds. These sharks are annoyed at flailing feet slashing and often give a territorial bite. All the videos are great. However this one can use some work. Hands cupped with finger slightly spread, get hands deep in the water where it is more dense and paddle in an S shape motion. NO KICKING!
Disagree with you on this one, kicking makes a huge difference paddling into waves. This is a shorter video with some key points, but not all. Hence the 'Quick Tip'...
@@HowtoRip You guys do the best job with these tutorials!! I do my best in the situation, but sometimes can't pull it off. I second guess on if I can punch through vs. getting sucked over backwards and that hesitation is no good. Thanks for the help you ALWAYS give. Much appreciated!! Health and happiness to you and your loved ones!!
Someone know how to protect body from sea lice I'm follow my dream find work in a city near sea but this seal lice is killing me very difficult sleep in night coz all body itchy and my body looks like I'm reincarnated in five teenager with acne problem
I'm wanna tell you guys that now I'm don't have any problem with sea lice I'm think my body just get used to it sometimes I'm surfing 6-7 hours and nothing disturb me like before But now I'm have new problem is surfing rush 😅
Not to be a dick here but I am kind off disappointed with a content. Repetitive, not fully explained etc. Wouldn't "How to rip" and all of us be better off having one key tutorial or whatever video in 2 weeks than 2 not great videos in 1 week. Just a healthy criticism. Even this video could have more information how not to swing while paddling include biceps for easier paddle when top back muscles hurt and how to let arms pass under surfboard on sides of it. We all would appreciate and benefit more from better content with more detailed information. Anyway keep it coming. Thanks.
This video is part of the 'Quick Surf Tip' playlist, therefore it is relatively quick one. I've chosen to keep it simple and to the point, focusing on key areas. Thanks for your feedback
3:26 Damn, I have been kicking my front legs instead of the back ones this whole time, thanks for the tip !! Great vid
Yes very important Victor
@Krishna Chuang I think they mean just pushing the back leg down and digging into the wave.
What beach was filmed at? The waves look really spacious and perfect for beginners.
Pipeline
James Bourke no it’s shipstern bluff 🤦♂️

Great to hear!
Is being taller and also having longer arms will be advantageous on surfing paddling?
Great video bro! This will absolutely help - any tips on wave positioning too?
We have a few on this topic, check out our playlist! Thanks for the feedback
Hey bro I'd like to see a video on how to generate speed
same!!!!!!!!
They have one - check out the other videos on the channel. I think there are a few on speed generation.
Hey JP and Lindsay, like Matthew said, we have speed generation videos in our playlists!
Very important to focus on using your back, chest, and arm muscles and not your shoulder muscles as much as possible. Prevent injury and paddle harder and for longer
That's it!
Yes. Would really love to see a vid on how to protect older worn shoulders while paddling.
Thank you for sharing my man.
You're wearing gloves in this vid for warmth or are they webbed gloves for more paddling power?
They’re gloves for warmth, webbed gloves use up your energy and burn your shoulders.
For warmth
Hi do you do lessons
Hey Bodhi not at the moment
Ok thanks

Good point Scott, on longer boards you would be limited to your upper body only

What beach is this?
I’m thinking about a JR Wraptor, but I was just wondering do you guys get your models of the jr shaper or stock standard?
Hey Franzi, mine was a custom, Kale had a stock and both were pretty fun!

Hey Anatoly, there are mixed views on this topic. Certainly food for thought!
thank you for your work guys your videos are really helpful!
Our pleasure!
Thank you for these videos! I’m 2 weeks into learning and they have been a huge help.
Happy to help!

Thanks for the idea!
@@HowtoRip so glad to be able to help
i'd love a video on how to to get tired out during the surf
Sounds good!
Here in South Africa 🇿🇦 we still not allowed to surf due to restrictions😔
How much longer until you can surf again?
@@HowtoRip it's uncertain bro
CAMIOLOGY TV I just went any way

in socal we can surf but the parking lots are closed so we have to walk about 3 miles to get to the break
Where is a good place to surf for bigger waves
Hey Olli, ask your local surf shop
D’bah can get really big
Ok thank you
Hawaii 🌺😌
Bazza 🤫🤫
We used to paddle to China man island in Oahu
That looks like fun!
Not sure why my triceps always cramp up after 2 hours of paddling. Anyone else have this problem?
I would want to see a video on surf fitness for kids
Great idea

Any videos on how to duck dive while climbing the face of the wave for when another surfer is coming down the wave?
Same principles, just paddle hard and watch they don't run over your feet. You want to stay out of other surfers way in this case as best as possible

wear a wet suite dude
Always wash thoroughly in fresh water as soon as you get out of the water. And again with soaps etc as soon as you get home.
Thanks for advices

You mean “kicking back leg, “ is lifting tip of the board after pop up.
No
heaven
Just switched from a soft top to a hard top 😭it feels so different but I need to work on my paddling. I was only able to catch a few waves
