I know deadmou5 said in an interview most sets are pre-recorded but i don't think this one is! from the shots of the decks it looked like he was multiple instead of just one for the whole hour.
Theres a few misconceptions regarding prepared/pre-recorded sets and all that stuff, here's what I know:
- Some DJs might pre-make the entire set and just play 1 long file but most do not
- Some DJs will use a laptop + Ableton instead of decks, this can make things a lot easier for them or a lot more complicated, depending on what they want to do
- For big shows I will plan out the set and make sure it doesn't go over the length of my time-slot
- If the visuals are on time, it doesn't mean they're time-coded (playing automatically and in sync with the music). It can be that the VJ is just really good
- Carmen (my VJ) triggers, chops and nudges the tempo of the visuals in real time, just like a DJ would chop, beat-match and trigger cue-points in the songs
- I prepare some edits for certain shows, sometimes involving 2-3 songs at once, those are rendered as 1 file if they contain complex edits & FX that you cant do live

As he says on the mic, one of the CDJ just started doing weird shit around 9:30, maybe a USB Link cable issue, it happens. Virtual Riot definitely play his sets and produce tracks in the plane for his venues and play them like throwing sausages, he's a great artist and always delivers.
@@VirtualRiot but then again, I heard some DJs pre-record their set especially when their on tour doing shows constantly, back to back.

I always wonder from all the touring and travelling when do artists even sit back and come up with new ideas for their next track
I mean even one of the CDJs was totally fucking up around 9:10 to 9:43 so Im pretty sure this is all real. You can hear it too. Blemishes in a mix always prove its legitmacy!

The melody of the drop would pop into my head for yeeeears and I couldn't remember the song. I thought maybe it was a lost project I had produced or something like that. It finally came on a spotify playlist after like 3 years of getting stuck in my head. I cried when I heard it. It was like hearing it for the first time all over again.

Interesting how I also resonate with similar sounds. As @lirodex234 said, its a sine wave with a bit of harmonics. Sine plucks and sine-based sounds all touch me in ways similar to the way you describe it. I have always wondered why people get touched on the soul-level to certain types of sounds more or less than others.

I'll tell you what, NOBODY sounds like Virtual Riot to this day. Such a signature/unique sound. No one organizes air and soundwaves like this man
unique sound is not what makes him unique imo, he has so many different unique sounds, thats where his genius is I think. He can produce all different dubstep/dnb subgenres in his own unique way that weren't made before that idk mans a fucking god that if I wasn't lazy id use the fanboy copypasta
@@MegaChren I can agree to that - diversity is definitely his strong suit. I will say, the way the curates his bass sounds, his use of call and response, melody styles, and all the interplay with weird trippy sounds and flows, I can usually identify his work. But that's just MO.

Just 4, the 2 off to the side are spares to swap in case one fails
Those are 2 seprate mixer setups. You can see in the closeups, those 2 CDJs never have anything qued up or playing. The buttons aren't flashing and nothing on the screens.
