That theme song that plays at 2:46 still pops into my head every now and then... even after 20 years. Went back and ripped the song some years back too, just so I could listen to it while driving. Such a classic!
I remember this been in PC Zone and watching it. Looks like the author a Hugh Hancock sadly died nearly 6 years ago from a heart attack, aged just 41. Sad.
***** Thanks! Amazing to think it started everything off for me and Strange Company - it's a bit of a world of difference between this and Death Knight Love Story, for example :)
ChaztheGam3r Thanks! Yeah, it was a huge project for Machinima at the time. I should really get the sequel, Eschaton: Nightfall, up online at some point - that was even bigger.
This is surprisingly really good! I really enjoyed it. I know that you haven't uploaded the other part yet (Eschaton: Nightfall) but i hope that you do at some point as i & i'm sure other people would love to see it in high quality. If only i would of had a PC back then (& not been like 7 years old), then i could of experienced Doom & Quake. At least i can play them now with the great source ports that are out nowadays as well as watch all of the old "Machinima" & play the older wads/maps as well. What a great time period that must of been!
I remember this taking FOREVER to download on my 56K modem. But boy was it worth it. It also kicked off my interest in making game creation. Spent many hours in Qoole after seeing this! PS - What is the piano music in the title sequence? I still love it today!
I'm creating a Quake machinima but there's one thing crucial: -Do I need other human players to play different actors in the movie ? -Movie must be created as a demo or other ways are possible ?
Practically speaking, if you're making an original Quake Machinima film, you'll need other humans to play the actors, yep. You could write code to script actors, or add them into the demo afterward, but both are a *lot* of work.
oh no.. that's why I like more HalfLife engine, it's really easy with it ! Though Quake1 engine is the only one free that even lets you sell your mod/creation

I remember first seeing this and being blown away by the custom models, skins and animation - I think you're off the hook for the camera work.

Revisiting all things Quake on its 20th Anniversary.
RIP Alex.
This was great! For being a very early example of machinima, I really liked the narrative and levels.

This looks really advanced for a machinima that was made in 1997, a year after a diary of a camper this is a great machinima.

Strange Company Can't wait to see it.

Does anybody have a link to the original files? I want to run this in quake for myself

Jesus, this was made a year before I was born.
I came here looking for Eschaton Nightfall since it's mentioned on the Maschinima Wikipedia page. How's the preparation for upload going? ;)

God awful. And from this a movie genre was born? Quake rocked. Go Red!
