The only camera I've ever come to regret selling was my Minolta CLE full set. I bought it at my local camera dealer when it came out, and sold some 10 years later for nearly the same price I've paid for it. So at least no financial loss. I won't buy it again, though, since I don't shoot 35mm anymore, I exclusively go for medium format and larger.

I think it’s best to keep your camera collection minimal because eventually you don’t end up using them and they collect dust.
But if i were to have a collection or have the money to afford them.
    It would prolly be
    Pentax 6x7
    Fujifilm TX1
    Nikon f6
    Leica m6
But my dream is to own the Ff tx1
    Love that champagne colour
Plus i love the panorama ratio

My final collection is now, leica M3, Canon EOS 1N for portrait (paid clients when requested film) and landscapes. Canon M5 for client work and general landscape/shooting.
Ditched medium format because I'm finding digital pretty much retains the same detail as my former mamiya rb67, and is far, far lighter, as well as cheaper to run, for obvious reasons.
The better you get, the lighter your gear list gets. You know what you like, and you know damn well how to use it like the back of your hand.

There are many ways to shoot panoramic on the cheap from a lomo panoramic to inserts that allow you to shoot 35mm film on a medium format camera, to the panoramic mode on an APS film camera (they don't make the film but it can be found and processed) and the Mamiya Press cameras have a 6x9 back available, paired with a 50mm lens, it is ultra wide. Don't spend $5000 on a TX1. If it breaks, you'll never be able to fix it. Use a work around. Frankly, I was very impressed with the APS panoramic mode on a little Yashica camera. APS cameras are super cheap, they show up at thrift stores for $3.

@@richardt1792 i think for me , i’d probably invest into an anamorphic lens (specifically Sirui)

Agreed on the A1! It’s my current main camera and I love it. I know people always talk about Nikon but i’m not really a brand guy. I love the A1, and I’d probably still buy and F2 or F3 because I like that too.
That being said, one of the cameras I truly regret selling is the Canon QL17 and the Olympus MJU II. Especially the MJU II. I know it’s severely overhyped but I actually loved everything about it. It just made some great photos and the form factor was so small and easy to work with. Now it’s too expensive to repurchase again, but I miss it a lot.

I have three cameras I need to get my hands on that I've had in the past. The Konica Auto S2, Manufactured in the 1960s it's a great rangefinder camera which I shot with during the mid to late 70s. It was my fathers camera and still have most of my negs that I shot when I was in Greece the summer of 1976. I had a Nikon One Touch L35AF that I shot with in the Late 80s and 90s and it was a good camera for snapshots. I had a Minolta XG-1 which was a decent camera, but I was always worried about keeping it in the car when I didn't need to shoot with it on hot summer days (fear of melting plastic camera parts). I think it's great that you mentioned cameras you once had and now you've missed. Makes us all realize if we don't need to sell the cameras we presently have, it's good to hold on to them. Thinking about getting a 120 Medium format camera so I can experience shooting with those big negs.

  • @rgarciamainou

Hey Jonathan, great video. One note: The Nikon One Touch is not exactly the L35AF, but a decent enough later iteration. My regrets are mostly on cameras I missed buying, but I can relate to the feeling.

About 30 years ago, I decided to buy my one and only point-n-shoot camera. After research, I decided to get either a Contax T2 or a Nikon 35Ti. For decades, my primary 35mm cameras had all been Nikons, so my bias for the 35Ti was set. To settle the matter, I bought both, ran lens tests on film, and used them for a week or two. The Nikon was cool for all of its bells and whistles. The T2 was cool for its minimalist styling. Then, I kept the T2 and sold off the 35Ti (made $15). Why? The 35Ti must be the most non-egonomic camera ever made. It is a pain in the ass to use if other than all auto, all the time. It's maximum lens sharpness is a bit better than the T2, but the T2 has a much more even sharpness across most of its image, while the Nikon's is centered and falls off more than a bit in the edges and corners. The Nikon has superior metering, but the T2 does just fine. The T2 has everything you need, and nothing else. The Nikon is like a Christmas tree of unneeded features and controls. The dial readouts on the Nikon are cute and classy, but they are hard to read if you're over 50. Easy decision to make; no regrets.

I remember the EOS 3 and the EOS 1 series. I worked at a photo store in 2003 and I would drool over the local pros shooting in these. At the time I was shooting a Canon Rebel X with the 28-80 kit lens and eventually added a 80-200 telephoto to this kit. I added a battery pack to try and be "comparable" in size and feel to those. I ended up selling off this kit to upgrade to an Elan 7e that I shot for 3 years after that. 6 or 7 months after the new camera buzz wore away I regretted selling off my Rebel X. It was purchased with High School graduation money and I felt bad that my mom collected money from the family to give it to me so I set out to re-purchase a Rebel X as a reminder of what got the photo bug started in me. Last year I found one at a pawn shop for $15 and I immediately copped it and now my 11 yr old son has showed interest in learning film photography with that same model that I cut my teeth with so I'm pretty stoked to see it come full circle. Love the content. My son and I watch your videos and look forward to using your expired film videos to help us to make sure we can get some ideal results with the stock pile of film I have.

I see no problem with having cameras on a shelf not being used. With the way prices for these bodies are going it's become more of an investment to keep them. I'd only sell one on if it was to go towards a different camera.

I was a recce for a shoot when my L35AF broke. I was taking a shot, the DOP pushed me to get out of his way, instead of politely asking me to move like any human would. The camera dropped and broke. I tried not to make a big deal out of it but I was and am still pissed, as I only had the camera for a few months at that point. Now it’s just a display item, can’t even make myself sell it as spares. Sad times 😭

I would say my biggest regret was the Nikon F3HP. It was in pristine condition and the meter was excellent. I sold it to fund a Sover Wong F2 CLA which I don't regret as I prefer the all mechanical, non metered body. I love the F2 enough to score an all black one, which is in working order and on the Sover list to be CLA'd as well. I have too many cameras and will be selling some again with regrets.

Your EOS 3 reminds me of my Canon 620, the company's first EOS film camera (along with the 650). I bought it used for $20 (!) but it looks and works like new. I don't know why it was so cheap, maybe because it looks modern and doesn't appeal to vintage enthusiasts. I still have it and it would be a waste to get rid of it, since I wouldn't get anywhere near the value it should be worth.

I am torn between the Minister 700 (and Minister III) and the Lynx series (14E and 5000E). Which one will be the best one for Street Photo?
