    I have lived some similar with my 10-years-old cat Piu. We were in the countryside, Piu had gotten tired from walking, so I held him in my arms to get back to my grandma's place right before very loud gunshots of someone trying to kill a little bird. I had never seen Piu get that much scared, he flew from my arms and got lost into high woods. It took 4 hours to rescue him. I cried rivers. Thankfully he is fine, healthy and ready to celebrate his 11 years old in October!

    So glad you found her!
    And to anyone who lost a cat, don't lose hope! Last year I was walking home, in my neighborhood there are a lot fo stray cats and some people placed some small cat houses to feed them, while walking I saw this beautiful cat sitting on the top of this house waiting for the food and she got closer to me and let me pet her and play with her, I was really confused because that's not the behaviour of a stray cat especially in the area where I lived, so I told my mum and she contacted the association that take cares of these cat. We sent them videos and pictures and they showed us a flyer of a missing cat that was just exactly like her. So we contacted the owner, she came but the cat was gone, the morning after my mum went to the same place and called the cat, the cat came out, she immediately called the owner who saw the cat and recognised her immediately. The cat disappeared TWO YEARS before and the woman looked for her anywhere, even when she got reports from far cities she always went and at the end the cat was just in the same town.

    I love how you were able to stay calm and think ahead about what to do and how to do to find her. If it was me I would've panicked and cried my eyes off after not finding my cat for 10mins. Lesson learned. Never ever taking my cat outside without a secure carrier and need to get a gps on him asap

      Thanks for your kind words and support! Yeah I definitely panicked in the beginning but learned it would do no good for me. And I realized my earlier efforts was just disorganized searching and praying that I get lucky. Had to craft a solid game plan if I were to get Arya back. I am glad you found some tips helpful. I was hesitant to post this video at first since it was so traumatic but I thought it would help other cat owners prepare and know what to do in the situation.

    I’m a dog walker and Aria escaped her harness using a very common move we call “the death roll” (the real name of a similar move alligators use underwater). It generally happens with a harness that is too loose or the animal has lots of fur, especially lots around the neck. Fur is slick and the death roll puts unusual tension on the harness, letting it twist and contort enough to allow the animal to escape.
    I’ve never lost a dog to it because a mentor taught me a trick. If the animal has lots of neck ruff, you need to add a collar specific for fluffy fur, fit it properly, and then attach the collar to the harness with enough tension to prevent the collar from extending past the ears (even if you pull very hard or lift it in unusual ways). This gives you one less avenue of escape and more control when they start to roll. When fluff is very slick, essentially acting as a lubricant during an escape, I tend to use an emergency pinch collar to grab through fluff (it can’t pinch unless the dog is truly distorting the fit of the collar and harness with this configuration - I know this is controversial to some but an incident of humane pinching is vastly preferable to an escape or fight). I don’t know if they make collars like that for cats, but anything meant to combat fur slickness (Velcro?) will help the collar grip during a death roll.
    I noticed the lack of tension on the lead when Aria was in the basket. This is important because harnesses change fit on fluffy animals when under tension. Tension while in the basket, only leaving enough slack to sit comfortably in the basket, will also prevent Aria from using the jolt of the drop again to assist her escape.

      I realized this with my Australian Shepherd. She is very furry and her fur is very slippery. When she was a year old she also realized this and learned to slip out of her harnesses and collars. Thank god she never ran and has a good recall but after like 3 times I got her a custom martingale collar. I didn't want to wait for a day where she got spooked and couldn't respond to me anymore. No animal is completely "bulletproof"

      This is why I still use the “unsafe” collars when I take my cats anywhere, and make sure the adjustment is correct. Thanks for the tip! Now I will use both, to allow them more mobility. You can’t really lead a cat by a collar without hurting her.

      irrational response, but yes cats can do something a hundred times and still get spooked on a one off. The main thing is that he had a system that had never failed, but he changed it to try something new. So, go back to the old method and get GPS - both rational responses to an incident.

We searched for her hours inside and outside the building we couldn’t find her. And then an lady told to come at 4 am cuz scared cats come out when there is no noise. My cat escaped his harness in front of a vet clinic I was about to take him to. I never found him. I cried so much and the vet gently adviced me not to do a similar thing with my other cats, and that cats always need to be carried in a closed pet carrier, no matter how tame they are, as the overwhelming senses in an unfamiliar territories can send them running instinctively.

When he went out at night From the window of the house because of my sister, he could not wear a collar on his neck. I heard his meowing on the third day when he was gone, but I could not go to search for him in the mountain, and I went after a few days and did not find him today, but all because of the tension, I did not find him, and no one understands what it means to have an animal friend

    I am glad that you find her safe and sound. This is the scariest time any pet owner would’ve gone through. I lost my cat for 22 days and thanks God I found him. I utilize everything I know to bring him back. Flyers, asking everyone, posting in pets lost and found communities, checking vet clinics in my area, walking for hours in early mornings and late at night calling his name, I placed his bed and toys outside our front door hoping he would smell his own scent and find his way back home, but nothing worked. It turned that after he went outside while the door was accidentally open, someone snatched him. I put a reward for who finds him. So the snatchers called me and tried to raise the amount of the reward. Threatening them through the forums and exposing them to everyone made them threw him back in the area near my house. We found him trying to eat from the garbage with other stray cats. 22 days of sadness and fear for his life.

I do also breed the Blue-eyed White line. They are my husband's favorite. So many breeders are now doing kitten rooms. I just find that to be so impersonal and can result in kittens not being as loving as they can be. Plus, they have all the fears your baby has. Hiding from people and taking longer than it should to adjust to their new home and owners. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to live, eat and sleep with their rag babies. Mines are like my kids. Whoever still thinks they can bring their cat out just because they saw other people do it, you really should rethink it. Do you do it because you are jealous of others? Or do you want to get more attention by using your cat? If not, please respect your cat's feelings. Not every cat feels comfortable with the streets and sounds, especially long hair cats, and the cats that grow up indoors. If you really want to hang out with a hairy friend outside and do a lot of outdoor activities, you should choose a dog that is naturally more comfortable outdoor. For an indoor cat, you can sometimes bring it to a nearby quiet area to have a small walk. Not far from home, the distance should be close enough that your cat is able to see your home building and walk slowly with your cat in your arm. Allow it to look back and remember the direction of the home so that the cat feels safer. And don't stay outside for a too long time. And avoid the main road where there are cars driving by. And beware of any strange or loud sounds that might make your cat scared and escape the collar. And don't walk in the forest. The sounds and the movements of the leafs on the ground will drive your cat crazy. Because they think there is some kind of monsters moving and hiding.

    I recently took my cats to a cat hotel to stay for a few days while I went out of town. My two babies decided they wanted to cuddle up in the larger carrier (made for a small dog, plenty big enough for the two of them), so I kept them together in that one and brought the other (empty) one with me. When I was on the sidewalk just outside of the cat hotel, the carrier broke open from the click-in sides and both cats darted away.
    I nearly had a heart attack. One of the them is a stray and he is very shy, so he hid under the nearest car and the staff were able to get him straight away. But my sweet, very small girl darted across the car park. I could not find her and was at the same point as you, almost overwhelmed and ready to lose it, when someone from a nearby shop said they saw her, and I heard her crying. Two staff members helped me find her and she kept getting away from us. She eventually hid in a hedge bush and was crying, she was so scared. I managed to get my hands on her scruff and behind her so she wouldn't back out, and the staff got into the bush to pull her out.

    Arya sounds like a cat who are scared of people and sound. I would image it’s very uncomfortable for her to go outside especially on city street.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 роки тому

      So it’s true she is scared of people. Tho I have taken her outside on a leash, in a bike carrier, and stroller before and she has never panicked at this level. So I was a bit surprised when she jumped. But going forward she will only be in a carrier if we go biking

    I'm sorry what you went through. I'm so glad she is safe.
    I also have to say that I'm impressed with the way you managed to get your cat back, especially when you thought about what Arya is most likely to do.
    I don't think I would have been smart enough to do that. I also want to ask: how are your cats with recall? I think if anyone is taking out their pets, they should make sure that their animal is good with recall so in a situation like this their pet is far more likely to return to them with you just calling their name. Also, I think a pet trailer for your bike might be a good idea.
    I hope for the next outing, it goes much better! Have a good day/night! :)

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 роки тому +23

      Hey thanks for your kind and supportive words! It definitely was panic and no plan in the beginning. But I started googling really hard what to do in my situation because I had no clue what to do. The experts mentioned most cats don’t go far and that calmed me down a bit. And coupled with aryas personality made me believe I had a chance.
      My cats with recall isn’t that great and is something I need get better at. Still I think that would need to be tested under stress. Arya is just very shy and gets scared easily. Teemo would have just walked up to people and said hi
      Thank you for the excellent tips! And I wish you well as well!

    • @MimiS6000
      @MimiS6000 2 роки тому +4

      A cat can be good with recall in their normal comfortable environment. But when they panic or are in unfamiliar territory you’d be surprised how they don’t even respond to your calling.
      I lost a very confident cat that was great with recall and when I found him under a hole in a shed he still wouldn’t come to me. (He’s now found thankfully)
      They’re just so scared in environments they’re not used to so their usually behaviour goes out the window.

    • @Belle_isle899
      @Belle_isle899 2 роки тому +1

      @@MimiS6000 True, however, the point that I was trying to get across is that pet parents should what they can to INCREASE the likelihood of their pets returning to them.
      Of course, recall or any safety/preventative measures you take isn't 100% but at least you are taking steps to make it MORE LIKELY for pets to be returned to you.

I offered a reward on a flyer & someone called to tell me that she had been living in the bushes & yard right outside of their patio. I literally placed hundreds of flyers all over my city. As I searched day & night, I went door to door & spoke to as many people as I could. Also always remember to keep your windows closed if you live in a condo, especially if there are no screens because your cat can fall out by accident and they will have a long fall if you're on the 38th floor. And it is something you do not want to live through. Especially when you're watching your cat falling all the way down and landing on a car.

    I have had my cat Whisky since he was 5 days old. He was such a cuddly kitty with a huge personality. at 8 months I lost him after Hurricane Sandy, rather we let him out to climb our tree which he was obsessed with but he never went far from where we were. He wasn't ever scared of strangers. I guess some people were helping "clean up" but they kidnapped my cat from the tree and even as we ran after them to let them know he wasn't a stray or missing they got into a car and left. At that point I thought I would never see him again. At the beginning of 2021 I was starting to just give up on the idea of ever seeing him again. Praying he was taken into a loving home. In February of that year we got the call... he was chipped and had been found deep in Long Island. He immediately saw me and jumped into my arms and I will never let him go again. He does not leave my side and constantly asks for cuddles.

    I lost my cat a couple of years ago when we had just adopted her for a few months. She was unfamiliar with us and she escaped from our house. I was on a trip and only my husband was home. I asked him to post posters. So worried that I wanted so much to fly home right away. When I was home, I went out to search for my cat in our neighbourhood every night. I saw her one time but she escaped into a neighbor’s backyard. A neighbour said he had spotted her a few times. I saw her another time crossing the road and we followed her around. I brought treats for her. She tried to keep a distance from us. After a long time of chasing, I got her finally. She tried to push me away when I was holding her and left a big scratch on my chest even though I was wearing a down jacket. What a relief!

    My cats were traumatised three times by this crazy landlord when I moved.
    My one cat couldn't take it the third time and bolted over the wall into the field.
    My feral colony lives in that field.
    My girl hung around our previous home but wouldn't come close to me.
    My heart was broken that she didn't want to come to me.
    She is the most timid of all my babies.
    It took weeks and I eventually used a kitty trap we use for TNR to trap her.
    After being in the trap for 1 hour I let her out in our new home and she twirled for her back rubs as usual.

    I lost my cat for 9 days. I walked the neighbourhood every day, and posted flyers. I had no idea which way he had gone. Luckily a man said he had definitely seen him a few blocks away from my home, and I soon found him, in some deep spikey bushes just 150 metres from my house. But he was so panicked he just stayed in the bushes, shaking. He did not recognise me at all and would not come to me. This is quite typical when an indoor cat gets lost: they just panic. Luckily through social media a cat trapper who works for a local animal rescue was brought in and caught him in a trap. I gave the animal rescue a donation in thanks!

    So glad you found your cat. My Cat Mickey is wearing an airtag. And my new kitten is wearing a tile tracker. Mostly so I can see which one I like better. When you are looking for them, you can make it play a tune. I play the tune randomly and reward with treats or cuddles when they come. Has worked reasonably well for recall with Mickey…still trying to work on it with my baby kitten.

    In Februar 2018 I lost my cat Samura in a Forest 40 km away from my home. She got out of her harness too. I went there every day for over a month and the miracle happened: I found her under a tree. She was malnourished and had a bronchitis. While I write that she sits purring behind me. I love her so much I had never forgiven me if anything had happened to her. But still it’s our personal miracle.

Yeah I was hesitant on making this video at first because it was traumatic reliving the experiences again, but I felt it would help a lot of cat owners with their lost cat. I lost my kitty once that was just 2 months old, my dad's friend asked my mom if he could take one home , and my mom agreed. I didn't know this, when I came home and learnt what happened, I called my dad's friend and asked how was the kitty doing, he said it escaped the moment he removed it from the bag, I was so devastated he was just 2 months old he doesn't even know what to eat other than his mom's milk.
    I scolded my mother how could she give such a young kitty, I went to the mans home, which was very far away and frantically searched everywhere, tried to lure him with milk and chicken, placing them all over the place, I waited for hours , I asked around all while the man and his family were basically watching TV in their home.
    I reached out to social media asking to give info , I even posted an ad on the local news channel the next day. And in the news of the channel, random people started calling me after the news that they spotted a big cat and it's dead on the road or that some cat has eaten their chicks.
    I realized everyone was so insensitive, I haven't found him for a week, it rained continuously and I didn't know whether he was hiding or if was still alive for a week without any food. I took my other kitty in a pet carrier and the blanket he slept in, so that if he smells he will come out, I roamed the area with the other kitty hoping he will hear his meows and come out.
    I never found him, I couldn't sleep for months after that.
    I never allow anyone to give my cats for adoption, I have 12 cats now, we live in India in a rural place where no medical procedures like spaying are available, not even proper veterinary hospital, amidst all this taking care of them is very stressful in itself, and to loose one is heart breaking.
    We are the world to our pets, I just wanna make sure I live up to their expectations.

    Once I lost my cat for 3 days, I live on a private beach and my cats go out there everyday and once I let him out, but then he never came back that whole day, I didn’t think anything of it but then the next day he didn’t come back and I started to worry, so I walked along my whole beach and the sidewalk and he was nowhere to be found, I started crying and at night I thought that all hope was lost and was crying and couldn’t sleep that night then the next morning I was sitting on the couch watching Netflix I then heard a meow at the door, (we have a clear door) I looked out of it and saw him my heart skipped a beat I was so excited, he ran inside and we gave him 2 whole packets of food and lots of water, usually he eats half a packet at most, he had no food for the whole 2 days.

    Oh my goodness! Thank gosh you found Arya. My 'ex' fiance from years ago knew very well when we moved in together that our cat, my daughter's and mine 'Stormy' was an indoor cat. My ex also had his own cat 'Snooper' who was an outdoor cat. The jerk decides on his own accord to let my cat out with his one day, I was beyond 'frantic' and know very well how you must have felt....however I was very fortunate to have found Stormy down a few houses on a neighbour's front lawn, I left this asshole, not because of the issue that day with nearly losing our beloved pet forever but that's a part of it. He had no right. Again so glad your precious love was found, so beautiful both of them.
