Hi fellow old fart. I missed A New Hope due to living out in the sticks, but I still heard about it and I was intrigued. When The Empire Strikes Back was released I saved up enough money to get to the nearest town with a cinema. They ran a double feature with both A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It was almost a religious experience.
I kept coming back, the fifth time they let me in without paying admission.

Yeah, we all had the shock and awe moment with Luke... but look how much emotion - from EVERYONE - was displayed from the simple act of Din taking off his helmet for Grogu. When you're invested in the characters, the story, the damned context... something so seemingly small means so much.

The moment when Luke arrives on the scene, seeing fans both new and old be completely ecstatic and/or a teary eyed mess was just incredible. And the fact that it did not stop once the scene moved on to Din and Grogu's moment is a testament as to how well the story of these new characters was written.
People stayed as emotional during the goodbye as they were when Luke saved the day. That's what good Star Wars does. Hits you in the feels with a good story just as much as with nostalgia.

The sad part is…I didn’t WANT to believe it was Luke. Even after seeing the X-Wing. The hood. The green. The robotic arm. I denied it again and again and again even as tears filled my eyes and the music swelled. I kept saying, “Please don’t do this, don’t do this to me, don’t do this,” etc. Even though I denied it, deep down in my heart, I think I already knew. I’d been so jaded from the sequel trilogy, where they unceremoniously snatched Luke Skywalker away from us and ripped his character to shreds before our eyes.
But when the music quiets and the hood comes down, and he looks up, hands folded and standing there…that’s when it all came down. I was twelve years old again, my hero in full glory: Luke Skywalker, who taught me perseverance and faith still mattered even when things looked dark.
Thank you, Favreau, Filoni, and of course, Mark Hamill.

Pedro Pascal deserves an award for this role. The way he looks uncomfortable without his helmet. He looks vulnerable and kinda scared and for Mando to take it off for Grogu not once but twice, the second time being when he says goodbye just tells you how much he grew to LOVE him. With everyone else around him at that time friends and enemies he didn’t care about anyone seeing him shed tears when saying goodbye to Grogu. When he swore to that creed he thought NOTHING could ever make him show his face. Throughout the series many tried to tempt him but he wouldn’t do it not even to save his own life. Of the 3x he took it off 2 were for Grogu. The emotions Mando was going through realizing Grogu was leaving him really broke his heart. He cried for Grogu cause it hurt him and didn’t care who saw him crying

A story of love is the still the greatest way to pull an audience. Thank you Jon Favreau for this beautiful piece. And for the opposite reason, I hated the sequels (whether you're a hardcore fan or not) as it never told a coherent or character building story. If Rey dies, no one will give a shyte.

All pointed to Luke but my 48 yr old ass couldn't process that it was him because we'd been disappointed for so long that all I could say was, "They wouldn't give us this. There's no way they'd give us this. Are they really giving us this?!" I was in denial up until he lowered his hood despite all the clues that I couldn't even have hope. That wasnt Luke in the sequels. That was some B-Clone Hermit Luke left in charge cuz he knew Kylo would have just been a waste of his time. These real Luke used his some of his force powers to project onto Rey so she became a Mary Sue and wouldn't fail, while he was off training Grogu, chilling with Ahsoka, Han, and Leah (they faked their death so they could go back to spending time with each other and not have to deal with Smugglers/Republic bullshit) and occasionaly getting into some crazy Hijinks with Chewie/Mando/Bobba.
The sequels just wasnt worth their time and effort when the B-Cast could take care of it.
Also that purple haired Karen using hyper jump to crash into that ship was just Luke giving her a "force assist" from the other side of the Galaxy, so it didnt break any lore.
And that horrible fight with Kylo and Ren vs those red force sensitive soldiers was just Luke casually using mind tricks on the soldiers so Kylo and Ren wouldn't get hurt.
Any inconsistencies/potholes in the Sequels was just the real Luke manipulating the Force in its entirety to fix all their stupid mistakes and make sure they actually won.
"Teach Grogu how to bullseye Wamprats and chill with my friends, or haul my ass across the galaxy and solve all these idiots problems? I'll just activate the Force Remote Desktop and fix their shit from here."

@@Riley_wolf I was OK with Luke being bitter and wanting to stay out of the fight. But I felt like he should have come back at the end and saved the day in-person. The force projection was impressive and was great at showing how powerful Luke was but killing him was a mistake I felt. Plus they had an out. Much like in star trek which brought spock back to life. They had a chance to bring Luke back too. When Luke disappeared his metal hand should have clattered to the ground, but it didn't. They could have had Luke come back in the last film after nearly dying. Then he, Ben and Rey could have confronted the emperor at the end. That would be a great end. Possibly even having the force ghosts of the past jedi appear behind them to give the three their own power.
I feel like jj had too much to correct after the second film but I give him credit for trying. I think they should have just let him do all three films and maybe things wouldn't have been so distorted.
