Depends who you ask. Pedal is only as good as the person utilizing it. I have the grey! And as I appreciate it going up in value i much rather prefer the gold.
Put the gold one at the end of the chain see what happens then. Also as a gold owner myself best way to utilize this pedal is not going past noon on both knobs. I've tried all the Yellows! Useful but thin sounding in comparison to the gold. Amp, guitar, player, needs to be taken in to consideration. The grey hype is just ridiculous. I swear most people make judgments in their bedroom. Band situation and overall mix determines a good and useful overdrive.
My favourite are the modded yellow one and the original grey but it can depend and react differently with the amplification. So each one has its quality.
Hi, Guillaume. Graat video. I enjoy the comparison, however, I feel the need to point the fact that sending the DOD or any similar pedal into a clean amp won't work for YJM tone. Yngwie sends his drive into a Plexi which at max volume has some vrry distinctive crunch tone to it.
Alright alright let me give this a shot. I have all those except the Grey. To my ears it does have a marginal, more musical quality to it. It's fat, but still has the thin crust pizza sizzle on the neck pickup. If you think Yngwie in his early records, it's definitely there. Closer than the other three. Then next up would be the yellow modded one. I have a modded one as well without the LED. I love it more than the YJM and the Gold. Sounds warmer and pleasing to the ear. Then i would rank the YJM next. Very brittle sounding and pirecing for sure. But lets remember Yngwie did use that during a certain period live and in studio. You will still hear the 308 from that time period. So it's still very much in the game. You can't really bump it off that easily. He approved the design. So I got myself two 308s. A mint one and a battered one, both unmodded. Thats a piece of history. Go get one. Now the gold was my last purchase. Out of the box it sounded kinda hard and crunchy, not as warm and smooth as the yellow. A bit more focused of a sound than I expected. I didn't gravitate to it that much. But I have it as part of my collection. It's SMT. When I saw the innards it turned me off. Thats not a 250! But oh well, it's a modern SMT 250, is what it is. Not bad. It's really pointless to expect 250s to sound similar. They are all part of the ballpark, but still very different. Even same models from the same year sound slightly different. JHS said there is NO GRAY spec. I think he is right. But the gray in this video still sounded best to me. Vintage Yngwie. However, I would never pay for one. Not for that extra mojo. For all we know that mojo is just years of component drift. Whatever. I just love the 250 in whatever shape or form. Lets not get too hung up on which sounds best. If I could have them all I would. Excellent video. Best comparison Ive seen. YJM style
There are differences only about mid-bass range : the grey one is the fullest in that range and 308 is almost empty about it. Yellow ones are a "in between" version of these two options.
Grey 250 blows them away!

Ι like the yellow reissue more. It has the softer highs which are really appealing to my ears...
The grey rules!
Wow! That grey one sounds quite a bit better than the other 3.
Yes, though it has no light, a complicate DC input and a mushy tone when turned full. I prefer the yellow one now!
Thank you, Sir. I use the new reissue with my Squier Stratocaster (low output PUs)
Yes, great pedal!
had one of these. Loved it.
Still have the yellow version I bought new in 1980. Haven't found an overdrive pedal I like any better.
You're lucky, the old ones seem the best version of the DOD!
@@GuillaumeVrac that's bullshit. The gold is the best sounding one.

Reissue is the full sound option

👍🇺🇲❤YELLOW & GREY
Thanks for your opinion

Thanks for you argued point of view and compliment!
reissue is the best!

I love both Grey Dod and the Modest Mike's Mods one! Cheers.
Spot on.
L'unica differenza tra il 250 Grey e il 308 è il condensatore in ingresso. Il 308 è più chiaro del 250.
Do you recommend using them in the Loop of the NS2 or in line?

Super vidéo et belle technique ! , sais tu où on peut trouver la grey ?
Peut-être sur Reverb.com
what kind of power supply did you use on the Yjm308? I have one but the connector is not the same as the one on the pedal
Hiroshima mon amour riff.
But tune your B string!
Dod250 is my favourite
Nice playing dude. Any music or CD’s for sale?
Pete Kaltsa thank you ! For the moment I have only cds of black metal with my band Darkenhöld but I hope to record a cd in the Yngwie vein later.
grey the best
The grey destroys the others but I cant believe how bad the reissue sounds. Its worse than the yjm . Great playing man!
I like very much the yellow one with the Modest Mike's Mods, plus it's more pratical to have the light, a standard DC and less buzz. Thank you!
DOD 250 grey version
Hipster Black Metal 100% agreed, even though the modded yellow DOD is great too
@@GuillaumeVrac How exactly was it modded, what was done to it exactly, and why?
@@michaelcraig9449 You have all infos here: www.modestmikesmods.com/dod
damn man; should have dimmed them!
You mean "dimed"? I agree. I had the gray back in '80 I can't ever remember playing it less than maxed out on the gain.

C'est un peu ça oui. La 308 est assez fizzy aussi.
