Even today, I think this scene is still one of the most magical in the history of cinema. The song, the decorations, the imagination it took to set it up. ❤
Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka period. He's the best, Gene Wilder came from a can do post WW2 society of hope. The new picture in 2005 was like watching gen Z play silly world games.
@@tanishalee586 Yes her, in her book 'I Want It Now', she said: During the 'Pure Imagination' segment, we were given Wonka's consent to venture out and sample the sweet candy terrain. But despite my character's quest for a lifetime supply of chocolate, in reality, I hated it. In one shot, Veruca was required to smash a polystyrene watermelon against a rock and then scoop the gooey chocolate by hand to devour its contents greedily. The taste of this runny-textured chocolate gloop was so disgusting that I could barely force myself to eat it, much less pretend that I was enjoying it. Mel was screaming through his bullhorn: 'Come on Julie, act like you're enjoying it!' and I would snap back: 'But I'm NOT enjoying it!' By the time this scene was completed, I felt ill from ingesting this chocolate-flavored nastiness.

I can def understand that. No excuses but the musicians purposely created a dissonance not usually created in music. To the ear it sounds a bit like the movie the Shining - but it was done to create surprise.
Wonka didn't get to where he is by only focusing on chocolate 😂 it's the whole point in the candy store guy singing the song about the candy man..and also wonka singing about a world of pure imagination...wonka understands chocolate is only a tiny part of his world once he perfected that he could explore endless possibilities in candy...the fact these needs explaining probably shows how talented Roald dhal was at writing and why wonka wanted to leave his empire to Charlie and not an adult...most adults fail to see the bigger picture and focus on the ridiculously tiny details.
@@joeymazzlo9517 It's not just that scene that's mostly devoid of chocolate, but the factory, in general. Most of the chocolate that's shown is either in the opening, or outside the factory. The factory scenes are indeed interesting, but I don't like the way that, if you didn't know this movie had "chocolate factory" in its name, and if you watched the movie muted, you could very well be swayed into thinking it was about a bizarre candy factory with cranberry juice waterfalls.
There was absolutely no concern for basic and/or advanced Health and Safety precautions during the entire production of this film! I mean in this scene alone, you have a Gene Wilder being made to eat a plastic cup, Veruca getting her knee cut and eating gross 'candy' (if one can even call it that), and worst of all, poor young Augustus having to take a dip in a curdled chocolate river that I hear reeked of (well I'm guessing) human excrement, not to mention have to DRINK the damn stuff that he pretended was 'terrific!' HOW IN GOD'S NAME WAS THIS FILM EVEN ALLOWED TO BE MADE!! EXPLAIN IT TO ME JESUS!!!!
@kylewong, I am sure they had precautions on what was safe. It was a different time and place. The movie was made over 50 years ago in 1971. Now, if you want to be concerned about children being put in a dangerous situation, search the Twilight Zone in 1982. Two kids and actor Vic Morrow were killed.
After watching the new wonka movie, this sucks. The song and the props, it all sucks. I know people just like it out of nostalgia and not liking new things but timothy nailed it as wonka and his vocals too.
Tell me you have no taste without telling me you have no taste. You can’t explain why it sucks or what components make it a weak film compared to the new Wonka.
I feel like this movie has a lot more to its message. Even his facial expressions as he sang while everyone pretended to enjoy the candy kind of felt like wonka himself knew nothing was real. Even the song fits the situation.
“Hold your breath, make a wish, count to three.” I love this, it’s simple and pure.
Close your eyes and count to ten. Make a wish, now, open them!
one of the best movie songs ever made and this scene is magical
Yup. Shit distorted me as a kid. The candy man can because he mixes it with love and makes the world taste gooooood

Gene winter
My favorite movie ever made, I will never cherish a movie more than this
Still watch it at the age of 52
Back at that generation, there's no CG effect no high quality props, but the actors and actress are very talented
All of this was practical ... And the chocolate river Used actual chocolate
there was,it just sucked
…and that set design gets top marks, too. Not to mention the score.

Cenas que marcaram minha infância. Obrigada
🦋🦋 Having a bad day, watch this film 🦋🦋
I don’t know why they keep remaking this movie. This one can’t be beat!
It's only been remade once with Johnny Depp...the more recent movie with Timothy isn't a remake it's a prequel to this version of the movie.
@@joeymazzlo9517 oh I thought that was one too
Que bueno que también sea muy recordado el actor de Wonka de 1971.
RIP GENE WILDER 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

Love all Gene films... didn't think I'd like wonka but if you've not seen i recommend
2:23 She didn't enjoyed doing that at all. To her it was disgusting because she doesn't like chocolate.
Who? Veruca?

Wonka is supposed to be a bit sinister.
@cityman2312 bitter is the word, bitter, but wishing better for the kids
And the cream in the scene is toxic
I see a blood in her leg
the actor got an injury during the scene

Watch avocado animations right before watching this movie.

And blood she eating and cream and choco is kinda smell bad
No one is in El Paso has flu

How did Timothy Chalamet become Gene Wilder. Makes more sense for Timothy Chalamet to become Johnny Depp instead.
How that you mention it, it does make a little sense, unless if we got soupy sales for the role in the 70s version as Roald Dahl originally wanted
Still think Grandpa Joe is the worst character ever. His lazy ass lying in bed all those years
