We had a 11 year old that was big baby. We would go to bed and he's stay on the couch. Five minutes later he'd come into the bedroom. First he'd check to see if mom was asleep, then he'd come to my side and make sure I was sleeping. Now it was time to sneak into bed with us. Like we arn't going to notice a 190 pound dog sneaking into bed. At the foot of the bed he'd lower his head onto the bed and slide up to his front shoulders, then a minute or two later getting away with one paw then a minute later both paws are on the bed. Now we do the belly crawl till the rear legs hit the bed. Very carefully one rear leg , than a minute later the other leg makes it onto the bed. Phew I made it this far without getting caught. Slowly he'd proceed crawling up the bed until his head was chest height on us. Well he really didn't have to crawl very for obvious reasons. There he would lay until being forced off the bed so it could be made. Yes he is very missed by everyone he knew.

#1 greatest thing about Danes is that you’ll NEVER do ANYTHING alone again unless you command or force them to stay!
I’m watching this in my bathroom and both of my Danes are laying in the floor. Cupcakes head is on my foot and Rudy is laying over the heat vent.
They truly are part Velcro dog and part Lover-doodle!

@@Penguin24766 the pack has expanded now. Still have the two Danes and we also rescued a German Shepard runt pup that we named Mouse. She’s small, like 50 pounds maybe, but is probably the smartest dog I’ve ever had.
So now the king size bed routine is this:
Cupcake and I spooning, with her in the middle of the bed. Rudy is sleeping on my wife’s legs.
Mousey is on my pillow wrapped around my head.

Mike thanks for the video. As a Great Dane owner since 1975, they are in fact everything you said they are and more. I just lost my 6th Great Dane 4 weeks ago, and our home feels very empty. I'm 70 years old, and in very good health, and I think I will get my next and last one in a few months. It's ironic Mike but Finn looks exactly like my Mr.T. He was sired by Marsha Walden dogs in Hot Springs Arkansas. Great videos so keep them coming. Good luck to you and your family.

Steve Zisk great story. I am 52 and I always wonder when I am getting my last Dane. My dad had a great workshop in his basement. He loved to do projects and spend lots of time down there with all his fine tools and hardwoods. Then he got bile duct cancer and he never knew it was his last trip to his workshop. Think about that. Died at 68 but lead a full life. Great father. All he would say about my first two Great Danes was “gosh their big”!

I had 3 Great Danes back in the 70's. A fawn and two blues. We had a huge amount space for them . They are everything you say and more! Every generation of dogs I've had gets smaller and I now have an adapted Maltese! Great Danes will always be my favorite dog! Thanks for the videos!

I have just found your channel....I have wanted a Dane my entire adult life...but with 4 kids and working full time 12 hour shifts it wasn't a good idea for such a wonderful animal...but now......kids are grown and gone....I work part time now.....soooooo....maybe!!!!!!! Love your pups so of course I have subscribed!!!!!

I found your channel while in mourning over my 6.5 year old Dane. She has osteosarcoma in one of her front legs and probably only has a few days or so with us remaining. She is our first Dane and all of the things you said are true and wonderful. I cannot imagine not having her around. A dark cloud has been hovering over our home since December 13th when we found out about her cancer. Too advanced to do much other than medicate and enjoy her while she is still herself. (other than growing tumor on leg that causes her to limp) We started an Instagram account for her when she was a puppy and have been updating it like crazy in last month....wanting to store up and treasure all the memories we can. #RondoTheGreatDane I guarantee that anyone who gets a Dane will fall madly in love with their personality. I absolutely dread the pending moment when we have her put down and how it will hurt my family. I have had to have dogs put down before and the pain I saw in my wife in those moments is so heartbreaking.

I feel your pain. We had to put down our Rocco on Friday, March 13th. He had DCM and was in such terrible shape. It broke our hearts, but I try to focus on all of the love and laughter he brought to our home. He was a rescue that we brought home at 1-year-old, and we were blessed to have him just shy of his 7th birthday. My passion is Danes, and I would never want any other breed. I once told my husband that it is so amazing how quickly and deeply we fall in love with them. Thinking of you and sending prayers for you all.

So glad to find this channel! I have a 2.5 year old female Great Dane (black "mis-marked" because of white on her toes, but I don't care!), 140 lbs who is also my service dog...she is my big baby and I love her so much! Great Danes are by far the most amazing breed I have ever had, and I don't honestly believe I could ever have another breed of dog. Simply the BEST! Everything in this video is true, and you could easily add another 10 or 20 items to the list!

I was going to throw a hissy for if you didn't mention the lean! Also love the once or twice a day zoomies (they are self-exercising!). Some go through a Stone age, around 6 to 9 months where they'll pick up and carry in their jaws the biggest rock they can find.

  • @KerriRusnak
    @KerriRusnak 5 років тому +7

I've had my first now for 3 months. I love the size and weight. I'm single and live alone. Juno sleeps with me and it gives me such a deep sense of safety and "belonging" to have her back pushed against my legs and back. I feel less lost and exposed. I don't "need" protection but I find myself surprised at how much I like it when she barks at anything threatening. She really would absolutely make a mess of anyone who thought they could injure me. The whole sitting on me thing is such a laugh. Her clumsy trips and sliding off things makes me laugh. Snoring at night and barking in her dreams makes me laugh. Drooling water all over the kitchen makes me laugh. Feeling threatened by my winter jacket makes me laugh. This little creature has really changed my life.

I see a lot of the behaviors of my Norwegian Elkhound (about 1/3 the size of a Dane, and a spitz-type critter).
Baldurdash is a lap-sitter, a leaner, a cuddler, and he knows how to work an audience.
He's also a fine heating pad for those arthritic joints.

Your absolutely correct. My neighbors don't care anymore either when he drinks water and then shakes his head in the middle of the crowd. Hahaha! I tell them a dogs mouth is cleaner than a human,s mouth. Lol. I do admit that our paper towel costs really went up.
Dog Food , Bones , and Paper Towels. A must for Great Danes.

Our Dane,s name is Doc Holiday. Named after Doc Holiday from Tombstone. We call him Doc. One syllable names for Danes are very receptive. People that visit usually sing songs to him like Hickory Dickory DOC ! He sings and whines with them. Good names for Danes would be Mack , Tank , Broc , etc.

1st and foremost do lots of research about the breed. their food and water bowls have to be lifted as they get older it's not good for them to eat off the ground and their food alone you want a low protein and a high crude fat percentage Don't ever feed puppy food the growth hormones will cause joint problems and a to much protein can a cause knuckles .before you buy the puppy make sure they are of good genetics ask if they have done a embark test , embark does genetic testing and you will find out if they have any problems in their genetics such as hip , knee ,if they carry the Merle gene, deaf or blindness which is bad breeding ,diabetes cherry eye the list goes on such as with any breed ,see if they do a genetics test .find mom and dad and pictures of their grandparents The breeder you get him from should offer breeding rights for certain amount a contract when you buy it and also a 2 year healthcare and there's no sense in pay and $800 $1200 for poor genetics because of their size any trip to the vet is a lot more than just a regular size dog the embark test was a 150 per dog you do get a discount if you do to 2 at the same time it's definitely something to look into and as far as show quality Dane still do and embark test on a show quality Dane just cause its show quality dog doesn't mean they have perfect and genetics you're dealing with a pure bred dog so testing genetics and knowing their genetics is very important With all that being said I wish you the best if you have any questions message me on here my wife and I breed Danes so we know a lot and we love the breed we do it for the breed there is no love like a Great Dane's love

So much fun! Just found your channel tonight. I have a lab/ great Dane, named Beau He is super sweet, does lean on us, has to be touching us if he is laying next to you. He is half the size of a Dane, so his big head can easily sit right on top of the dinner table, quite funny! Adopted my first Dane, go from a "pony" Cyka the wonder Bully! To Xhopa the wonder dane! Can't wait to see how life with a "horse" will change. Simply can't wait to give this a go!
