On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago on 5-21-21.
We're looking at a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible in Mandalay Red Paint with the Factory upgrade Tri Power engine.
The car's Owner is George Hansen. George’s had this car since February 2017. The restoration on this car is stellar, and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. George remembers seeing an ad for this cars front grill in 1958 and that image made a positive impact on him. He hoped one day he could purchase one, and this year that happened.
Congratulations George on the purchase of a car you’ve hoped for!
    ENJOY!

What’s even more impressive is that they achieved that individual look despite being forced by GM’s brass, to share the cowl, roofs, and front doors. That they disguised this fact is truly ingenious styling.

George got it in 2016, but he wanted it since he was a kid. Think about that for a second...decades long dream. Not many could get there, but George did and you can hear in his voice how he's really humble about finally owning it. This kind of determination deserves a standing ovation 👏
And the Bonneville itself? A poster car for the '50s cruiser era - it's long, it's red, it's luxurious, it's got more chrome than any other car and it's got four fins, because more fins means more space to put more chrome on 😁
The interior is truly a work of art as George has put it. You're not even wanting to drive, you just stare at it like at a famous picture in a gallery. Many say that silver is boring, but it's not when the rest of your car is bright red as are the stripes on the seats. The silver dashboard "calms" all the bold chrome stripes, badges and other decorations on the outside and the contrast of these elements makes for a sexy overall look 🌺
George's just the man, even sports Pontiac clothes. What a snazzy ride, applause 👏👏👏

I'm no huge fan of the modern America...but I'll happily admit that I love everything that 50's and 60's American automotive design represented. It really was the time when the future was so bright, you had to wear shades. Sadly, it's all gone to (car design) hell, but holy holy. The Bonnelville was a car of it's times... Simply beautiful.

What an unbelievably kool car! The late 50’s American designers had a free hand at “space age” art incorporated into automotive expression. With safety and emissions mandates, this won’t happen again. The little puff of smoke on startup is the crankcase draft tube ventilation. By 1963 the PCV valve was included to send that thru the engine.

The one thing our younger generations missed about the 50’s & 60’s era cars was just how personal you could option them out. Seemingly endless interiors, colors, and engine choices. It would be interesting to know where this particular Bonneville was originally sold. Not only were Tri-Power convertibles rare, but ANY convertible with A/C was extremely rare unless ordered in the southernmost states. Finally, as a staunch Ohio State Buckeye fan, I’d want this car for the color combination of the interior! Thanks, Lou! ~ John

Gorgeous example that brings back many memories. My dad had a black '59 Catalina sedan than he dressed up by having Bonneville emblems installed on the rear fenders. It is the first family car I remember. The trunk is huge. We took that car from Pittsburgh to California in 1960 with my mom, dad, grandmother, me and my baby brother and all of our stuff fit in the trunk (plus a little in the back seat). His was a 326 cu inch and the interior was red vinyl, not nearly as ornate as this. Those chrome extensions on the rear bumper were problematic when backing down hilly driveways, though. Dad scraped them a time or two or three! Congratulations on owning this beautiful vehicle and best wishes for many happy miles!

That is an awesome interior. Kind of reminds me of a '50s era diner. Imagine it feels like you're sitting in one when at a drive in having a buger, fries and milk shake. I shared this with my kids and they were saying, "wow" and "that's so cool". I am equally impressed by is how smooth and quiet the car was at idle and when cruising along. It was the smoothest and quietest of all the older cars I have seen in your videos. Not that I have seen them all, but I have seen quite a few. Then when George would goose it, you'd hear the engine really come to life and sounded great. So happy for George.

The 1959 was the breakout year for Pontiac with a final dramatic break from the Brand's dowdy dull image. The difference was that.
was now in full charge and Pontiac had become a world class top player in the power, performance and styling areas
That was before we started to imitate third world countries with their econo
Boxes. Curses on the cabal of unelected govt bureacrats, self apointed news media and academics who destroyed the once proud Amerrican automotive industry. I would put a 421 super duty with a roller cam and kut, a latham axel flow super!nrcharger (remember them?)
