- Auto appraiser Jason Phillips flew into Salt Lake City Utah and inspected this 1959 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible for sale for one of his long term clients. It's a non-frame off survivor car, with some undercarriage rust holes that could be addressed or left alone. Catalog interior looks very nice, compromised only by the aged survivor dash components. Despite small flaws and some lower panel swelling, older repaint still presents well from a short distance, with age of some original trim showing.

I was born in January of '59 and grew up with this kind of low wide car style. 1959 was a year of important firsts for America, the first US launched satellites, successful jet travel, the first transistor IBM 1401 mainframe computer and of course the new GM line up of which this Bonneville is an amazing example. I love the interior, it must have seemed so futuristic at the time!
Pontiacs always had the best sounding exhaust. The voicing is impeccable.
On this particular one you hear the mix of custom Magnaflow system + exhaust leak. It's sounds amazing even though you don't wanna have an exhaust leak. But again sounds like an industrial grade big block of the machine that builds bridges.
Spectacular. I had '58 poncho Bonneville it was huge and very, very fast.
What a beauty! Love old American cars.
These are the kinds of cars my old High School used to parade around the homecoming queen and her court in on the football field at homecoming halftime.
this Bonneville is so beautiful I love the old Pontiacs this 59 looks very futuristic I love it!!
100.000 dollar car right there! Car makers need to go back and make em like they used to!! Beautiful ride!!
Unfortunately, they cannot afford to do that. Also, federal vehicle safety laws would not allow it.
It's hard to beat the V-8 rumble and beauty of a bright red 1959 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible for sale, with a dry western states underbody! Even with a little rust through, it's a rare car that would be a great unit to do a full restoration on. Thanks, Jason Phillips, car appraiser Utah
That car is beyond beautiful. The problem with the cars are they are show pieces, barely can use them because some knucklehead will ruin it.
For me, the 1960 Catalina rag top and the 1956 Chey Bel Air were the very best aesteticly beautifuly designed cars.
very good condition for its age. love the looks of this car
The detachable trunk light that you can use as a flashlight is a new one on me. Not a bad idea . . . kinda cool.
Lotsa Pontiacs back in the day..
DoubleMrE bonjour je suis intéressé avec price
I Love The Painted Red On This All Classic Ride, Dude!
Those TWIN FIN collumes were great for LINEING UP SNOWBALLS in those winter days!!!! Seen the last 1959 cars around 1972☆This fella should work for police as he can spot a FINGERPRINT from a block away= FANTASTIC FELLA!!!!
one hell of a nice car. there is a few minor electrical issues, but just a weekends worth of messing with
dam I miss chrome. and Pontiacs too. just a distant memory now. I think this qualifies as a land yacht.
When we were kids we used to take turns seeing how long we could hold our hand down by the heater blower. it used to get so hot it would burn
Beautiful car .
Took drivers' ed at Ogden HS in one of these!! Never forget it.
I owned a 59 Catalina from 1968 to 1973. The appraiser did not mention the speedo needle hopping due to lack of lubrication.
Simply amazing
Yes these old 59 Pontiacs are beautiful! Thanks, Jason the appraiser, michigan
This car saved my life. Years ago, my friend, Gary owned it and let an unlicensed, inexperienced young girl drive the car She ran it almost straight into a 3' oak tree at 60 mph. The front bumper was way under the car, license plate unreadable. The Bonneville had enough metal to absorb the impact and and still afford resistance. All four unbelted passengers survived the crash. I had 15 stitches in my scalp because my head hit the strut on the top. Gary had facial laceration and a concussion. The girls were sore but unharmed.
BTW, quit driving using both feet.
At 5K on a rebuild, the engine probably needs the tappets adjusted.
Awesome ride!
Dual exhaust baby oh yeah you just feel the horse power.
Every division at GM had a totally different take on 1959's fins, and it's sad that so few of the Pontiacs & Oldsmobiles were saved... 8O(
A nice driver, perhaps a parade car....Would love to read your actual report and know what you valued the car at...The engine didn't sound too great after just being rebuilt, perhaps just the exhaust leak you mentioned. The underbody really concerns me though, seems like a heavy application of undercoating to hide some cancer.
I remember my father had a 1959 black bonnneville
Beautifull car
I have a loose hood for one of these cars for sale very good shape still
My dad had one and the car was fantastic it had a 389 engine and that car was one of the fastest cars on road at that time the car brings back memories of my childhood thank you for showing it.
masterpiece
You needed to put the shift lever into R for race not reverse. I know I have a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville convertible it's been in my family since it was brand new
it's funny, this has interior appointments nowhere near those found in the '59 oldsmobile 98, but the "flight rockets" in back aren't as stupid and over-presented. nice.
Normally they have a pretty standard 1-2 shift, a very firm 2-3 shift and a very slow rpm drop into 4th.
Stage one cool!
The 1959 Pontiac Bonneville came with six fins!
Pretty healthy transmission whine.
My car has stage 10 patina.
Vocês ouviram....pontiac boneville a venda !!!! Da medo até de perguntar...Qunato ...?...
There is a quaint old British film from the 60's(or 1970) called 'Entertaining Mr. Sloane' in which one of these cars is featured. . .
That was a pink Canadian Pontiac Parisienne. A Canadian Bonneville basically
@@clarkeshivers7036 Oh yes, right you are.. So it was basically a Cheviac. No Pontiac wide trak. We had many Canadian Parisienne models over here and many were right hand drive. When I say, 'over here', of course I mean U.K obviously. Sorry 4 delay in responding.
This thing is 58 years old!
In 2017 that is...

I've still got some parts for that car. Mostly brightwork trim parts. I sold a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville 2 years ago I wonder if that's it? Mine was in the family since it was brand new so that it had a little over 65,000 miles on it
Why did you sell it
Those had the old 4 speed hydramatic that had dual pumps in the transmission that you could push start.
I had a chance to buy a red '59 Star Chief, but it didn't run and I didn't have any way to get it home. Very sad. :(
5:28 He thinks the camera is off when it’s pointing at the ground and he’s whispering to himself..Ha
u,ne œuvre d art,,..!!!!!plus qu une simple voiture
Sounds like it’s missing. Needs front shocks.
Até compro,... mas vem com o tanque cheio né !!!!!...???
sensacional..
On the drive gear selector there is the letter R no one could ever explain to me why that is. The only thing I know is used to really take off and kick in the four-barrel when you put it in R on the gear selector.
S Grzymkowski
When you select R and step hard on the accelerator you get a big surprise.
Nice one! Trunk pan looked like shit though. Want to ship it to Havana, Cuba and live out my dream.
Check out the one on Jay Leno's channel … This one could be that good to, but it's gonna cost some moo-lah ..
maravilha.....
Those were the days my friend, when cars and music were the most beautiful thing, and
women of course.
Now days stink.
They had wire wheels that looked great, but weren’t original so he may have added them for completeness.
That car has SIX fins.
Your Driveway is showing 3rd stage fatina
So what what was it appraised for?

Well this 1959 Pontiac Bonneville didn't bring anywhere near the seller's asking price of $89,000. He did sell it though. Thanks, Jason Phillips, auto appraiser from Michigan

18k tops for this Fisher Body
I had a 65 Catalina in the early 70's. I loved that car! I drove it from Vancouver across Canada to Montreal. The only time I took my foot off the gas was when I had to get food & fuel and when some 6' 4" Mountie pulled me over to ask me how fast I thought I was traveling. A little more than 100mph to be honest, Sir.
That's correct, from here on keep it below 90 he replied. I was shocked he was so calm & reasonable about the situation. The Pontiac never missed a beat was as smooth riding as any super luxury European sedan.
The " Wide Track Pontiac " handled great, stopped well & never broke down.I had radial tyres ,Michelins , installed even though everyone said not to.They did improve the ride, handling & gas mileage absolutely.
I sold that Catalina when my first child was due. With 89,000 miles on the clock & only a few cosmetic blushes I got $1260 for her and still regret selling my Wide Track Pontiac.
PS. The convertibles were babe magnets,!No kidding,I met my beautiful (still) wife because of my Pontiac caught her eye!!!.
all I see is a bunch of knit picking 62 years old lucky to be looking like it is
A "little bit of rust" that you can stick your finger through?????????????????????? That's MAJOR rust, man.
Yeah, a lot of rust in the trunk too....
That's how you Nit pick a car
Reginald Brewster that’s the point of an appraiser
Fix the clock. 🕓
Какие прекрасные авто делали в америке.
я очень сильно хочу такую машину купить
Pay him his money already and stop not picking.
Sounds like it has a miss.
asking $46,000 dollars
Belle voiture mais mauvaise vidéo !! mal filmée ...
Hydramatic
I see huge gaps and ill-fitting parts, a problem that has plagued GM for decades
