Brookie was so good when tackling drugs storylines. These episodes with Little Jimmy are so gritty and some of the best British drama there is. Other soaps could never pull off anything close to it.
@cakes3958 there are a lot of parallels between trains potting and the brookie cold turkey scenes trainspotting came out a few months before brookie started filming the scenes
In late 1987, Laura Wright, played by Jane Cunliffe, who was Jonathan Gordon-Davies' fiance also tumbled down the stairs of number 9 after being electrocuted outside the bathroom! She died in January 1988.
As I’m watching the last few episodes, Little Jimmy is starting to annoy me. Considering Big Jimmy is getting into all sorts of dodgy stuff to pay off the debt, and Little Jimmy goes and steals the cash to feed his habit, I honestly feel like shouting at the screen for him to stop. But I guess that goes to show you how good a storyline it is and how well acted the scenes are involving The Corkhills. Fantastic stuff.
Car Fairy (20th November 1996) Best Forgotten (22nd November 1996) Cold Turkey (25th November 1996) Demons (26th November 1996) Ticking Timebomb (27th November 1996)
Same here. I kind of liked Nat and Georgia originally but not Bel and Ollie. But watching these again years later, with fresh eyes, I’ve done a complete reversal on that opinion. I still can’t stand Danny though. Little Ming.
@@misternobodywhatsoever4752 I agree totally. They're actually quite an amusing couple, Ollie and Belle, and their dialogue has quite a lot of wit and sarcasm, which makes them stand out from the other characters. I think Barry Woodward was the main writer for the Simpson family's story arc, and he definitely tried to take the edge off the grimness of the incest stuff by adding some dark humour to Ollie's lines, while Belle was often deadpan in her responses, creating an interestingly humorous dynamic. Danny was also a good young character and well written. Other the other hand, I didn't take to Nat and Georgia in 1996-97, and I'm not now in 2024. Their relentless expository dialogue, filling in the gaps on how things "developed" between them, were long, tedious, and contrived - as were the ridiculous situations the writers put them in. To me, nothing about the incest storyline worked, other than the fact it was introduced as a salacious and sensational plot. The problem is that Nat and Georgia are written as spoilt, unlikeable, moaning, middle-class pervs, and it's virtually impossible to feel any sympathy for either of them. They got it so wrong with this storyline.
SPOILER ALERT!! *I don't undestand the maths in soapland. Terry is now 40 yet his 'mum's body is under the parade. He says he was 3 when it happened and it was 30 years ago. He would have been 10.
Terry's mum's body is not under the parade, it's a guy Jack killed, a guy who was having an affair Terry's mum. However, they did change the number of years Terry's mum had 'supposedly' been dead for. When Petra Taylor died in the mid 80's, there was a scene with Sheila Grant and Terry in the kitchen at no.5. She asked him how long his mum had been dead for, and he tells her it's been 3 years. Now here we are in 1996, just 12 years later, and they're now saying she's been dead for 30 years. It would've been 15 years at this point lol. So yeah, the writers basically changed it. Poor storyline really lol.
43:00 was this the first time Lindsey and Little Jimmy shared a scene together? They really dropped the ball on those two considering they’re full siblings
Excellent acting by all, especially Sue Jenkins (Jackie) and George Christopher (Little Jimmy). Sue Jenkins' best acting moment is when Jackie breaks down by Little Jimmy’s coffin when he's just died. You wouldn’t think she wasn't a Scouser in real life, 'cos her Scouse accent is so convincing. And George Christopher plays the part of a drug addict really well, in all its unglamorous non-glory - the paleness, the shaking, the paranoia, the pranging out. There are a few holes here though; Jackie has a cut on the *front* of her forehead, even though she fell down the stairs backwards 🤔 And where was Lyndsay's young daughter Kylie when all this was going on? Who was babysitting? Was she left with Auntie Val?

False imprisonment of heroin-addicted relatives is expressly forbidden under the B.R.A membership code of conduct.
Falling down the stairs is a Brookside thing. Mandy Jordache, Gary, Jackie and later Susannah.
Gary falling down the stairs was hilarious though 😂

Jackie - if you’re leaving Jimmy, leave him! She walks out, returns, has another argument, walks out then returns.
And who would have thought it’s Jimmy who go walks out on her in the end! After all he done to her
Little Jimmy: “ Just say no eh!?”

No, they've had scenes together. You've missed a bunch of episodes

Sue Jenkins is a Scouser in real life. She was born in Liverpool.
