  • I've finally managed to get my hands on a Tree Hut Shea Sugar scrub in the UK. I chose the cotton candy body scrub to try and dupe. I like to dupe products as it really helps in understanding ingredients and with problem-solving.
    Typo in base formula (should say 11.70g for shea butter).
    After nearly a week, we have no separation either and it has thickened ever so slightly more.
    This is a collaboration with Tara Lee who is also duping another Tree Hut scrub so when you're done here, go and watch her new videos here • DIY TREE HUT Rainbow S...

      I love the way yours came out too @taralee however I think if you guys could find a happy medium between both of you guys sugar scrub it would be absolutely perfect! But either way you both did an excellent job. @taralee and @revegacosmetics

    I think the tree hut scrub looks slimy so i wouldn't want to really dupe it, but you and Tara both did a fantastic job! I really like the sparkle in yours ❤

    Love the way yours product looks and the creaminess it's gets with water. Question, can you replace silica dimethyl silylate with silica microspheres for an all natural scrub?

    • @revegacosmetics
      @revegacosmetics  3 місяці тому

      I’ve not used them, but I expect you can. However, I don’t think they gel oils like the silica dimethyl silylate so you’d get the silky matt texture but not the gel.

    Hello just to clarify is silica 11.7g? Meaning the whole silica oil base equates to 81.66 grams?

    • @revegacosmetics
      @revegacosmetics  2 дні тому

      Sorry, I typo'd again! I've corrected the description now. Its 11.7g shea butter in silica base. Everything else is correct. Its a 100g batch, so percent should match grams for everything in the base.

    Is there a way to make this with something else besides silica?

    • @revegacosmetics
      @revegacosmetics  3 місяці тому

      You could try a different oil gelling agent and then mattify it with something like arrowroot maybe. I really like cera bellina wax for gelling oils, but the finished product is oily, so you’d need to balance that.

    That is a lot of glycerin to use glycerin on a good day, which is $50 per gallon
    Oils are expensive too.

    I think it would of came out more like the tree hut scrub if you added a little bit more sugar so you have more of the exfoliation effect that the sugar scrub has.

    • @revegacosmetics
      @revegacosmetics  4 місяці тому

      Mine is actually more exfoliating, as I used granulated sugar. Feeling them both together they must have used fine sugar. I also didn't add the talc, which although isn't an exfoliant, would have made the texture more spot-on. I would have subbed for Arrowroot but I didn't have any left.

    Holy cow! I just read Tree Hut's ingredients and see talc on there. Yikes! 😬 Definitely would rather make my own so I can control what goes into it better. Is there a specific type of Jojoba Esters that you used? In looking at this ingredient, it looks like there are Jojoba Esters 15, Jojoba Esters 30, and Jojoba Esters 60. Based on appearance, I think Jojoba Esters 30 would work best as it's not liquidy, and not firm and wax like. Do you think that is the best one to use?

    • @revegacosmetics
      @revegacosmetics  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, I left that out. I can't remember if it's actually banned over here or not, but was still able to buy the scrub online in the UK so I need to look it up.
      I've included supplier links to all the ingredients on my Patreon post, but this is the MSDS info: IDENTIFICATION: FLORAESTERS K-20W JOJOBA
      INCI NAME: Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters
      CAS NUMBER: 85186-93-2
      Of course, I don't know which one they used, I just bought what was available to me.
      If making again, I'd add arrowroot in place of the talc and up the sugar ever so slightly to completely nail the texture, but it's close.
      Though speaking to people, it seems their scrub textures can vary alot.
