Got the new video up taking a look if the world of The Pathless is connected with any other of the games like Abzu and Journey, check it out here ua-cam.com/video/YiYP16XeiDA/v-deo.html and let me know what you think!
I love this game. The hidden story, the beautiful graphics and music, the smooth and satisfying gameplay. And the world itself, the serenity of it all in spite of its falling, the game had me captivated when I first saw it, as you could imagine, I was ecstatic this spring when I discovered the Switch port and could finally play it for myself (my family having just gotten a Switch for Christmas). I was not disappointed, nor did any sense of it ever come for me to begin with. Having found the shark now and all-but finished the game, seeing this collection of this world's lore is amazing! (Especially since I'm hoping to make a D&D campaign set in this world.) Also, I've been thinking... all of the Tall Ones that were corrupted have holes in their forms somewhere, while I understand that their skeletons do too, so it's likely part of their physiology, don't you think it's weird that the Shark is the only one that doesn't?
Something i just realized; The tall ones the Player gets to meet in the game are their spirits/ghosts after the godslayer killed their original body. When receiving the gifts of the tall ones, they always lead the player to the site where their own body lays-
I loved how the story slowly showed, that the darkness of one man’s heart and him enforcing his view on others, can ruin the whole world. The pathfinder’s quest starts as a quest to help his people. But cruelty and him focusing only his quest, twists him and he slowly becomes a demon of death and destruction. One spirit at the beginning even doubthed he was ever a human, so horrible he was. Also just one small thing: I always thought the fortress-battle with the monks, happened after the Godslayer conquered the previous plateaus, because the spirits there speak about they being the last warriors left to fight the mad army. The Godslayer’s soldiers are also showing the simpthons of the corruption, fighting like animals and without humanity.
Loved the summary of the story, great video! When reading trough the entire pathfinder storyline, it really seems like the pathfinder wasn't always a bad guy. Here's my interpretation of his story: It really sounds like he actually wanted to do good in the world, finding a path to follow that leads people to true happiness. However by wanting to find a new path he was questioning the tall ones, which leaded to him being imprisoned. Being in prison because of his beliefs made him resentfull towards the tall ones, so when he broke out he started to move forward his plan in a more violent manner. Still, he just wanted to find happiness for the entire world. Skip forward to where he found the spirit mask. As you said those who are not worthy will never see the world the same. I think this is the point where the pathfinder went from anti-hero to villain. He went mad and decided that he had to kill the world to remake it. However despite all of this he still cared for his followers, even when he aquired the sun sword he was planning to bring all of his dead followers back to life after his plan succeeded. Even after the final bossfight, his last line is "the people need a true path to happiness"(or something like that). This proves that even in his monsterous form, he did actually care about his people. He wanted to give them happiness, even if he had to become a monster in order to do it. It's kinda sad actually...
Yeah that's a really good interpretation of it! I really like that! Yeah it definitely did come across that he wanted to help and didn't see himself as evil. I wish they had some more information about him before he was in prison to give some more clarity there but you could be correct! I definitely think the whole story was kind of sad, even all the souls that you interact with that were happy to help but sacrificed or didn't want to sacrifice thier lives.
Just finished the game today, this video is masterfully done. (spoilers) There's no doubt in my mind that Abzû and The Pathless are connected. If Basilla was just an easter egg, then how would you explain the identical room we see the tall ones in during the Godslayer boss battle? Giant Squid is definitely trying to create a large story. I think it's a beautiful thing, Abzû and The Pathless are both amazing games, and connecting them makes it an even greater story. Hopefully they continue it, they're such an underrated studio.
Thanks so much! I totally agree, I can't wait to see what they're going to make next. Hopefully it will continue the world building and fill in some more gaps!
Glad you enjoyed it! There's so much to discover and find, it was a really fun way to piece together the story, but it really did make it hard to keep track since you can't guarantee the order you find them in and I'm pretty positive there are messages as he made his way up as the Pathfinder and then different messages back as he came down as the Godslayer!
SPOILERS: . . . . . . . . The Shark tall one seems to be some kinda allusion to ABZÛ, (god what a game), so it seems like they’re maybe tryna do a linked world between all the different worlds & stories they’re portraying. perhaps the body of water we see the Hunter arriving to the island from is the same ocean we explore in ABZÛ?? excited for ur next video on this!
Thanks for the thoughts and opinions! There are definitely some strong threads to pull at possibly linking the pathless with a few games! I'll try to put it all in that video very soon!
I bought the game before I watched video and I didn’t know what the video it is such a great game it’s free plus it has good reviews please buy it if you love this video
Can't wait for the next video bro! Just finished the game at 100% and cam straight to youtube to find this dope video! I hope and strongly believe there will be a next pathless game. As for the lore i believe that the Hunter/Secret Elder is actually the same. I think that she is a god herself given that she doesn't take damage like fall damage, attack damage from the boss battles, and even the in the cutscenes she's mainly staggered or stunned. Her bow is the sister to the sun sword and only those "worthy" are able to wield the most powerful weapons in that realm and the spirit realm. She's like a pathless avatar restoring balance. Toward the end (trynig not to spoil it for others) the pathfinder says that she should not be able to withstand the eagle mothers curse and ask who she was angrily while at the same time she again no matter how many times she gets hit where others like the tall ones have died she doesn't given you can get knocked out the ring but you don't actually die and have to restart.
Hey thank you so much, I really appreciate the comment and the kind words! That's a really interesting thought and I like that idea! That would definitely explain some of the gameplay elements for sure, although if that were the case I'm not sure where they could take another game! haha! I'm assuming you saw the secret ending you get for finishing the game with 100% (don't want to spoil, but if you didn't see that ending, you might not think she's immortal) Also thanks for the reminder, I actually posted my new video trying to see if the Pathless was connected to Abzu or Journey in any way a few days ago, just updated the description with the link, or you can find it hear! Would love to hear your opinion on it! ua-cam.com/video/YiYP16XeiDA/v-deo.html Thanks again!
@@UnbrokenOdds For sure man! I saw the secret ending and my thoughts on that is maybe she is a demi or perhaps its coincidence that the eagle mother is able to protect her. Another point is that for one of the lantern you find under the bridge you have to stand in place of a statue which to me was like yeah she gotta be a something special. And last but certainly not least. The pathfinder/God slayer said that the eagle looked to the hunter for protection. Very interesting concepts. I will definitely check out your other videos man and I saw the connection video as well really well done will definitely sub and show love!
Wait I just thought of something, about what you said about the giant skeletons among the plateaus! In ancient cultures giant skeletons of animals (which were actually dinosaurs) were thought to be mythical creatures. The story of Kumo having giant friends is simply this culture’s myth about the giant bones.
@@UnbrokenOdds I have a question. In many of the sculptures of the eagle mother in her human form, she has two heads. We know her corrupted form had two heads but these sculptures were made before that. What does it mean?
@@UnbrokenOdds Yeah, that is an odd visual. Also I found something when playing through it recently. In the temple that housed the sun sword, the tablets spoke of a moon bow. these two are the most powerful weapons known to man. the only match for one of these weapons is its counterpart. I believe the Tall ones give us the moon bow on the floating island
You are correct! The shark and shells are dead ringers for the ones in Abzu! I actually have a video showing how it links between Abzu, Journey and the Pathless all together!
That's a hard one to say. I like to believe only the island population is dead. The Hunter came from off the island, so I'm hoping that means there are other people still in the world
we cant see shit at its feet when the image is showing its upper body, so the fifth child is bullshit, rejected yet still remains, the villain is greedy as fuck and nothing could stop him and the island is bullshit, i mean a mountain facing downward and appears to be on fire and the final boss, everything about it is bullshit, why the bird needs its own island when it has a home below makes no sense. and it couldn't stop one guy? bullshit. yet were never in the water and that could mean for the snake

I just love this world, it’s just feels so alive yet in ruin. It’s beautiful.
Can't agree more!
@@UnbrokenOdds glad to see you still read comments from an old video :) also happy to see someone do pathless videos.
For sure! I try to respond to each comment! I loved the pathless so much I really hope they do more with it

I'm glad someone did this. It's easy to get the broad strokes of the story, but I missed so much of this.
Thanks! I love lore in stuff like this, especially the fun of trying to piece it all together!

I love the video. The Pathless is such a simple game but with a rich story. I wish we could see more about this spirit world.

So Kumo’s land used to be green? Even at the Landing, starting island, it describes his land as mountain tundra.
What were Kumo’s followers like? What did Kumo give to them?
Good effort you did here, my only comment is regarding your voice is a bit too low

so did everyone who lived on the island die or did the whole population of the world die off as well

so they had to look like man? BS, also they sounded evil and screwed up from the lore
