Hi SewRena, it was a great effort. Love the midcentury aesthetic! As for the windows, you might have not brought the isomalt to the "soft crack" phase or about 275 degrees F. Ideally you want to get to hard crack phase, which is 300 degrees F, but then the isomalt begins to yellow very quickly. For pipe and flood, using a thicker royal icing for the outlines and then letting it dry a bit and then flooding with the runnier icing, will keep your edges sharp. Another trick is to cut your shapes after baking. This will mean your shapes are the same size as the template and the edges will be crisp. After a piece comes out of the oven, you have about 10 minutes before it hardens too much to do this.

  • @SewSewDrew

I love it even without the windows. I love how you give 100% to everything you do, and look fabulous doing it!

So adorable!! Gingerbread houses are not easy to make, in my opinion, and I know so well that frustration when things are not coming together. When I did my pastry chef training, we used melted chocolate to attach the walls, and I think that was the best trick ever. It sets faster than the royal icing, and I think it's sturdier. Next year I hope I'll be making a gingerbread house again (as this year with a two month old attached at the breast I'm lucky to catch a break to pee lol, let alone do any baking 😂)

A couple years ago I bought a set of blocks that spell out Christmas from the dollar store I painted it last year and it didn’t turn out the way I wanted so the next time I went to the dollar store I bought a second set of the same blocks so last Friday to keep myself busy while waiting for updates from my mom about my aunts surgery I glued the blocks together and to some craft wood and painted it in metallic silver and rose gold to me it looks vintage and it had a piece of the craft that didn’t have a block so I had mini wreath ornaments I bought thinking they were like the vintage ones my mom uses for the living room tree but they are smaller so instead of using them as ornaments I cut the string off it and glued it to the wood that was left

I'll bet your local grocery store loves it when you come into buy your groceries. They must absolutely love your vintage outfits, complete with hat and gloves!
Years ago when I worked at a women's prison, the women (because they were incarcerated, and needed beauty in their lives,) learned to be creative in different ways. Some of them decorated envelopes with colored pencils, & hairspray)
The hairspray diffused the designs beautifully.
Some of the women taught others how to crochet. (Jailed inmates are the only ones who have that kind of time anymore.)
Other inmates, (when they weren't busy trying to make bombs out of batteries,) pulled threads from their socks to make intricate earrings.
But I was most impressed with the way the inmates made beautiful roses out of jolly rancher candies that they melted in the microwave.
I wonder if a person could use the same technique melting jolly ranchers to make stained glass windows for a gingerbread house?
I absolutely love every single video that you make. Hope you have wonderful holidays!

I love watching your gingerbread house videos, they always turn out great! Just a word of advice when flooding cookies, use a thicker consistency for the edges, then flood with a thinner consistency icing.😉 The rice paper for the windows is a genius idea!

This is awesome! I absolutely adore how committed you are to a style and an era. You have definitely peaked my interest in that particular era and you have it. Just give me a lot of fun watching you.. the occasional glimpses of your family is fun and I love how you include them without exploiting any of them. You cook and you sell, which are my favorite hobbies and you also design houses which has a special place in my heart for family reasons. I should totally subscribe to your patriotic. You are ticking all my boxes:)
I am not a connoisseur of gingerbread houses, but I kinda like molasses color better than the Karo syrup color. I do appreciate that you showed us the difference because it would never even have occurred to me to think about that.

Just a question: you know how in the movies the location is on an equal level with the main star and the supporting actors?
Well I was wondering if you ever thought of using your vintage house (with the spectacular kitchen) as the set for a movie?
You might have to get a Hollywood agent for the house, but I am sure the minute they saw your personification of the 50s/60s (and your ultra - cool car) they would be crazy not to hire you on the spot as a consultant. (Or glamorous actress.)
The filming would undoubtedly be a disruption to the smooth running of a household and young family, but the upside is, you could give me half of your first million, and never even miss it!
Love your videos, and always look forward (with bated breath)to the next one!
