It makes a change to watch a well presented video without overbearing music or muttered dialogue, this has good clear images and detailed explanations. Brilliant, I hope you produce an upload more. Good work.
Agreed I have been looking for this for ages so now I feel confident I can do it. I also need to replace my EGR a pipe as I have fumes in the car and I think that is what is causing it. If you do a video of that I would be eternally grateful 😇
Thanks for the feedback. Sadly I no longer have the honda so there won't be any further videos. However, if this video helps you, please subscribe as you tube won't pay me any money from ads until I have over 1000 subscribers (GRRRR!). Enjoy your Honda :)
Just wanted to update... Finally got round to doing this and OMG!! the holes in both ends were pretty much blocked.. I would highly recommend doing this, it runs so much better now and this is the best video I've seen on how to do it. I'm a complete novice but by following this tutorial I managed quite easy and certainly saved me money not paying a mechanic and also gave me a great sense of achievement that I'd did it myself. Thank you so much for making a great easy to follow tutorial. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Started slowing down to a stop and pressing the accelerator had no effect. Followed your great instructions and the car is running as good as normal, nice and nippy, used a bit of carb cleaner to get rid of some of the carbon. Top video, great help.
You’ve given me the confidence to do it myself. Just bought a 2008 civic and on extreme acceleration to burn off BMWs it has a little smoky cough. So I’ll clean the EGR and then use an infuel DPF cleaner. Bit of a blow from the exhaust as well so once that’s sorted it will be a weapon.👍🏻🤫🤐😬
Nice straight forward video thanks. I have one question. On my car (Honda CRV 2.2icdti) it too has the egr valve in this location but connected to it via tge egr pipe, on the right hand side of the engine is another similar looking component. On another video elsewhere this other component is shown as being the egr valve. Would you be able to shed some light on this by any chance? Thanks again.
As I understand it, the valve can actually stick so cleaning it improves the airflow and unsticks the valve. Cleaning the intake manifold would be useful as well (although mine was nowhere near as blocked as the EGR valve) but you don't need to to get most of the benefit and it's much harder than cleaning the EGR.
Wow that was really clogged up! I think EGR and manifold cleaning should be considered part of routine servicing for diesel engines, it should be done every 3 or 4 years max because the engines always run better with a clean valve and a clean manifold. My Civic needs a full service soon so I will do this at the same time I do the oil and filters. Car is on 160k and I've no idea if its even been done before so this will be interesting!
Mines done 70k, do you think it needs cleaning. I bought HR-V from a garage, said it had a full service..ie no oil filter change, no fuel filter change, no air filter change. Your better off diy your self as nower days everyone is out to rip people off big time. I blow the bollocks out of mine in 2nd to get hot and the smoke that came out cleaned it I beleve.
What symptoms did the engine have when the pipe was blocked, I have the same one and it goes into limp mode if I rev it more than 30000k, it just accelerates normally
Do you know if this can make check enigne icon appear on the dashboard? I just got the icon and the car has much less power. However, it regained most of the power after 10 minutes od driving, but the icon remains of course. 🤔
Hi, thanks for the tuto :) at 6:02 This one is stuck for me, i can't afford to remove it... i used everything and this one don't move... don't know what to do :'((
Having just driven home today I've experienced intermittent turbo spooling / loss of power at high speeds, seems to be ok in 1st 2nd...could this be the issue?
Honda has created amazing EGR for this diesel! :) I would remove intake manifold also: inlet valves are clogged for sure. I know this from DGI Mitsubishi engine.
Hi Jon, great video. I've just bought a 2004 accord diesel and there's nothing in terms of turbo power until 2500rpm and it then feels like a new car. Would a blocked egr cause this?
Did you try it and did it help? My Civic does the same thing but only intermittantly, it's very erratic. Hoping doing this and a good service will fix it!
@@soundseeker63 To all of you I would use castrol stop and start oil c3, I used this when I got my crv 2.2 ctdi after a while you could hear the turbo spinning,I believe it had cleared the oil pipes too and from turbo, know use castrol edge c3. I got the crv at 90,000mls.
Far easier access that my former 1.9tdi 06 passat, currently driving a trusty 1.4 corolla and only considering going diesel again for motorway use. The only drawback with modern diesel engines is the egr value and turbo trouble. The accord looks quite straightforward to access and clean though. Any owners got any problems to look out for on a 2009 upwards considering buying one soon?
I hope you found a way to succeed. If you are in the uk try getting some Irwin grip sockets from toolstation or similar. They a twist profile inside them. Warming the engine is a very good suggestion by the presenter too. Good luck
Well its not much... you need to take entire manifold to clean it properly. I did it. And its absolutely way more job that you show. And this cleaning gives not much at all.
What are the chances of me doing this while keeping the original gaskets. I only now coming across the video and was going to give it a go tomoro as my car is like a tortoise. But I won't have time to get the gaskets Tomoro. Cheers
Hi, I got them from www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/honda-shop/genuine-honda-civic-2-2-diesel-egr-valve-gasket-kit-tunap-micro-flex-926-egr-valve-cleaner-2006-2011/
Squirt some WD40 onto the bolt then take the car for a drive and warm up the engine. The oil will then penetrate into the bolt and once cooled down, should be easy to remove
Any EGR cleaner (or even petrol) would work fine e.g. www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/fuel-and-oil-additives/wynns-diesel-egr-valve-cleaner-150ml-360302.html. had to use a flat headed screwdriver (gently!) to get the stubborn bits loose.
