- Amanda & Kai have been running/riding together for 3 years. In this video, Amanda shares her tips and how she trained Kai to become a MTB trail dog!

I always run outside busy times! But those who see us are entertained! She’s normally covered in mud and barking like a right hooligan!!

Lovely partnership. Any dog will follow the pack leader ....We’ve bin doing this for 20 years or more on the quantock hills. Welsh border Collies are the best for the job here. All the best , from Somerset,England .

This is a good Video got to let people Know that yes it is Fun But More so a Huge Responsibility if you want to keep your Best Friend Safe on the Trail.. I Have a Rescue Husky Named Sage I am Training Him but as you Might already Know Huskies can Be a little More tricky than most other Breeds. so for the Most Part I take Him Joring. and when we are not on single Track I have a Hands Free Leash that Go's around my waste so he Can Run beside me on dirt roads on the way to the Trail head I can always Grab the Leash with my Hand to bring him in closed.. Iv been working on his Re call sit and stay and In some safe, situations I can Let Him off Leash..

Very cool video, even if it's 4 years old :-) My puppy is now 6 months old and I can't wait to train her to become a traildog! I think I'll start soonish with a walking pace max because of her bones...
I wonder what commands you teached Kay specifically for "Traildogging"? Are there any? My plan is to teach her left, right, front, back but I'm not sure if that's even needed.

Do you recommend keeping your dog behind or in front of you if it's just yourself? I see pros and cons of both. In back, safer for them...but then you lose sight of what they're doing.

Holy cow! The area looks exactly like where I ride my bike, just that our trees are dying. I'm gonna start training my doggy to become a trail dog pretty soon too. Do you prefer him to ride in front of you? As I do Endure/Downhill riding, I think it could be somewhat dangerous to have her riding in front. I cannot stop as quick as she can.

Gsds are unreal! Kai doesn't come out on the trails with us as much now purlwly because of age. The ay after a big ride /run, hed be limping, so we cooled off on things. He comes out on shorter, more mellower rides, but it's the steeper tracks that he tries to run down are something we avoid now, purely because of the pressure on his hips and joints

Hi, my poor dogs paws are raw after a ride today. I don’t suppose you can recommend any boots for him that wont rub or fall off?
Honestly, we haven't come a cross a decent set of boots that actually stay in when out with Kai on the trail.
If your dog's paws are raw, maybe he's done too much? Just a thought
Hey.. if your pups paws are raw from the ride, you gotta backtrack and maybe hit trails with more forgiving terrain...
Consistent walks should build up his paw pad toughness

How old was Kai when you started MTB training? my dog is 9months and still practicing her recall and running trail etiquette, so I'm thinking we may be a little bit early
3-4 years old *I think* but that was only because I met Amanda (and Kai) when he was this age. I never knew Kai as a puppy. He took to riding really fast!
How old is Kai? We have white German Shepard named Kai and they both look identical!
Kai is now 7 years old 😊
How do you get on with his pads? I can only ride for about 30 mins with my GSD on the same surface before his pads get all torn up.
Also, did you find he wanted to attack you /the bike at the start of a ride? 😂 & how did you overcome this if you had similar?
Hey Brad, we do take good care of Kai - we used to use boots for him when the trails were crazy dry. Now, we don't take him out as much due to the heat and dry trails.
Kai has never tried to attack us or the bikes lol!
He literally runs behind us and if somebody comes up behind HIM, he'll move to one side and let the rider past.
His trail etiquette is quite something lol!
@@wolfpack_adventures you're very lucky, my dog loves to bite my chins in excitement & run off as fast as he can 😂 (he doesn't hurt but must look terrifying to strangers 😂)
I have a set of ruff wear boots for him but 1. They rub his dew claw, not sure why they would have ended the boot at such an awkward place & 2. You get some very funny looks 😂
It's such a shame because he loves to come along (even if he does attack me)
Try to start slower, walk with him next to the bike while your still not one it, then your on the bike but just walking and slowly work up to actually riding the bike

How long can you ride with Kai at what speed?
Around 2 hours max at the minute. After that, he starts to get tired and we've got to respect that
why not try attaching his leash to your bike with an antenna?

Make sure to inquire about the local hunting and wildlife protection regulations! it would be a shame if your dog were shot by the hunter

We don't have 'hunters' in the UK! We aren't all gun mad like you yanks, we don't even arm our police as a matter of course, they're not even allowed a truncheon these days.... hunters, I ask you!
