- The Women and Equalities Committee hosted a hearing on menopause in the workplace, reflecting on findings of the committee's report on the topic.
Patron of Menopause Mandate Carol Vorderman was at the hearing, and let the government have it for not attending the hearing.

Dear Carol ,
It's not Just women who are angry about this.
As a man , I am disgusted about the treatment of women is so appalling and sexist .
I have worked and fought for equality and fairness in society.
I'm in my 60's now and I see this government taking the majority of us back to the dark ages.
I thought you were bloody marvellous here.
Bless you and thankyou.......
There are already sex discrimination rules. I think there is also a political culture which favours women. Menopause might be a difficulty that women have, and most people probably sympathise. But it debilitates the brain. It's a mental health problem, which is sad, but it makes women less competent.

I lost my job due to the menopause. No one understood the exhaustion I experienced except my children who saw it first hand. Well said Carol
That is terrible and should never have happened.
It's a terrible time for some women, I went through hell for almost ten years... no support, employers don't understand. It's not like we choose to go through this
Me too.they didn't care less in fact the attitude of a Tory councillor was we've all gone through menopause
Sorry to hear this. I had no issues with the menopause at all, I sailed through it, it was my periods that were the problem from my thirties onwards (so compared to that, menopause was absolute heaven) and having to work through the flooding, the pain and the fatigue was awful.
Me too...and yet I don't feel Carole with her recent boobs, bum and face represents me. She's also sympathetic of Meghan & Harry..? 😅
This was an incredible opening to a powerful meeting. Carol blew me away with her impassioned speech (I'm sitting to Carols right). And this was just the beginning! History making stuff. I won't be surprised if I hear that Carol is running for office. She couldn't do worse that our current shower of shite pretending to run this country now.

Such a rare thing to have someone who has the clout and fame she has but remain staunchly moral, and acting in a truly benevolent fashion. I'm beginning to think that the key to all this is more people in her position speaking up.She said as much, "Top down" ❤
It's good to see men also standing up for women. Despite some of the male trolls in this comment section.
Hold da fuk up..what about men and their needs? This is very insulting, just dismissing them like they don't matter 🙄😁
@@lauralishes1 Not real men. Insecure idiots. Men have a responsibility to stand up for women as women would stand up for us. White men ‘taking the knee’ get mocked at football matches - I applaud. Because we all have responsibilities, and if some people, particularly men, fail to act properly, they merely self-identify as immature fools.
@Chris Bloodknot Why wouldn't they be serious?
@Terry Lodge, it's not rare, what's rare is getting to see it.
My mum hit menopause early, at 29 and omg, she was horrific and her older male GP told her she didn't need HRT, she'll cope as she's young. She didn't cope, she couldn't help it and the GP wouldn't help medicate her. She's 63 now and only went on HRT 12 years later, now she's being told she has to go through it "naturally" and to deal with it, different GP but older male, again. I'm dreading hitting menopause after seeing what mum went through in 1990 and beyond, nothings changed with how it's looked at years later. Took me nearly 30 years to get treated for my excessive periods. Caused problems that will last forever. We don't like being ignored.
I'm a Granddad of 3 grand daughters, Father of 2 daughters, and husband of a wife. Girls and women undergo things over which they have no control, and I want to see more action on this, I want to see free sanitary products at schools, I want to see support for women in these circumstances, be it Leave, or anything that can be done. For God's sake this is 2023 in a so called developed nation. Well played Carol.
As part of my treatment for cancer I am receiving hormone injections. One of the side effects is hot flushes and night sweats that mimic what women go through during the menopause. Dear God. It's dreadful. It's SO draining. It's not just tiring being constantly too hot or too cold but you get to dread night time because you're awake half the time and therefore dizzy with tiredness during the day. 'Night sweats' doesn't quite get over the idea of waking up completely drenched. You and everything touching you is soaking wet. I've ended up sleeping on beach towels. Luckily I'm off work but the idea of having to get up and do a full day's work like this would send me over the edge.
Men - we need to support women 100% over this. Seriously.
You sound like the kind of person who would empathise with what women go through, without having to experience the hormone side effects. Perhaps we need to jab a few MPs (and some employers) with hormone shots if the only way they can understand something is through personally experiencing it for themselves.
Wishing you a full recovery and return to good health.
Sounds difficult, but it isn't men who need to support you it's the state. There are lots of people signed off work for mental health, mental and physical disabilities. If you can't work, why should everyone else fit themselves around you? I have Asperger's syndrome. I've not worked for over 14 years, I've been homeless, and my doctor won't even give me a temporary fit note.
Thank you for your comment - sorry you're in the situation of being a male having "menopausal" symptoms, but I wish other men would read what you said and realise how exhausting /unpleasant it can be. Wishing you all the best with your treatment and the future.
Thankyou for speaking out for women and all the best for your recovery
@@therespectedlex9794 So why are you intent on hurting others? If it creates more understanding emolyers it might help them but it wont hurt you. Why having been crushed by life, do you want to see others suffer? Just because your Doc wont give you a "fit" note? I have no idea what "fit" note is, why do you need it?
I went thru hell in the menopause and was nearly sacked for absence and my attitude even though I had worked there for 20yrs without putting a foot wrong and getting 2 promotions. They did not give a crap they just kept threatening to sack me.

We are having the worst crisis in every day living I can remember! I am nearly 60 it takes me back to the 70 my brother was a fireman then amidst all the strikes which occurred then. This government has returned us to those dark days! I worked in the NHS for many years as did my sister a midwife, but the best health care provision in the world is being systematically destroyed through lack of funding, police numbers reduced, childcare so unobtainable in its cost to so many. And don’t get me started on the cost of food, rising interest rates and the price of energy!!! Yet the big companies are making billions in profit!!! This government are watching all this happen, they appear to have NO IDEA what the people of this country need!!! I take my hat off to Carol who is willing to confront them, over an issue which clearly means so much to her and many many thousands of women in this country. One which would be potentially fairly straightforward to resolve, don’t knock her supportive efforts. If anything we could do with many more Carols fighting for many more issues, there are certainly hundreds of them.
She's just bloomin' awesome. So straightforward and to the point, no nonsense. Love it.

Scrapping tax avoidance loopholes, enforcing just and fair working practices, preventing the steamrollering of smaller businesses. There are many unfair business practices that occur that the biggest companies get away with due to their purchased influence of government officials, for example Liz Truss being a former employee of Shell who refused to put a windfall tax on energy companies when they were obviously price gouging. For those companies the only thing that matters is the profit bottom line, it doesnt matter how many environmental changes they affect, the treatment of their staff, the morality of those who invest in them. I worked for 30 years at a company that approx 10 years ago adopted a trend of employing middle to top level management from not only outside the company but also from outside the industry. Thank you Carol and everyone working hard to bring this serious issue to light for positive change.
Government sadly don’t really care.
Most women suffer terribly with this issue, I certainly did. It really must be addressed by society and recognized as consequential for everyone. This is why older women “disappear” from leadership roles because a lack of hormones makes you evaporate. Your confidence bottoms out, your energy is gone, motivation dissolved, you can’t sleep, you are exhausted and deeply depressed. The doctors don’t help you unless you come prepared with documentation and drive the treatment. No one prepared me for an otherwise anticipated alteration I should have been prepared to tackle with the help of my doctor (sadly no). I had to figure it ALL out in the dark. Like this speaker I too was suicidal and dysphoric which is not uncommon but rarely admitted to by those who experience it.
Same here, last 10 years have been hell and not slept well with all the usual symptoms and even worse depression than before. No confidence and it is soul destroying.
It is a transitional and important part of women's life why is it not supported? We can have a good quality of life moving forward with effective help.

There was no where to turn?? Really? What about all the millions of other women who have been there before you? That is what society and friends are for. Why should the taxpayer do that job? It's another example of the patriarchy at work in the UK; treat the difficulties of women as private or, in the extreme, 'disgusting' and hope that it's not something we have to deal with at a systemic level.

Yes - we get told about periods, childbirth - but NEVER menopause! Something that every woman - even the Queen! - goes through, yet we are kept ignorant about it, and about available solutions. And so are our menfolk and families.
It's not anybody else's fault. It's Nature, stop getting angry with men and society. That is what being a woman involves. Own it. Women have existed for millions of years, and they have managed. Men have their own problems, like having to clean out the sewers, collect the rubbish, fix broken power lines during ice storms and to do all the other dirty work. That puts a few hot flushes into the shade.

My mums menopause was never diagnosed - because of this she never received HRT - which has lead to heart problems and osteoporosis- she breaks a toe just walking - she’s broken her spine in places just by trying to get down the stairs. Lack of proper hormonal treatment and understanding has lead to serious health complications and severe depression - major relationship breakdowns and addictions. The issue of hormonal understanding and treatment needs to be addressed for both sexes too even.

I wasn't able to see an endocrinologist to find out the why's or a dietitian to potentially help with more natural alternatives and I was a single parent of 2 young children, I couldn't afford private treatments. I am now 47 and when Carol said about should I drive, should I get the train, should I drive etc...that constant anxiety, that constant worry about every day things that never bothered me before, has been my life for the last nearly 20 years and I did not know that was due to menopause. This is a breath of fresh air and I'm so glad someone of Carols stature is speaking up for the everyday working women

We also need more specialist, fully trained, doctors to help all the women who struggle and 5here are many! Thank you Carol! 👏❤
It's great to see someone who is not intimidated speak out.
Go and complain to God, he created women this way. Nobody else's fault, calm down.
@@charleswhite758 Go and complain to your mom because you are never getting laid so see if she will help you out, she helps all the other men out
@@charleswhite758 The pitiable thing about all of your comments is that you have no idea how ignorant you are publicly displaying yourself to be. You are clearly proud of yourself for portraying yourself to be lacking in any understanding, education, or empathy regarding this topic. If you were more aware, you would be embarrassed by your comments. I am sure I am not the only one suffering the cringe of second hand embarrassment. I honestly don't understand people choosing to remain wilfully ignorant on a topic and publicly outing themselves as arrogant, judgemental, ignorant fools. Unless you are a troll. In which case that is also pitiable. Anti-social behaviour is not helping your quality of life.
@@charleswhite758. Why don’t you complain to him for making women out of a males rib?
@@johnmoore9862 I think God did a pretty good job with women from the Creation until before the Woke era, when humanity mucked up the concept.
Menopause isn’t mandatorily taught in medical school, it’s an optional course 8:13
Makes sense as to why gp s dont like to talk about it.
This woman and how she puts across the effects of menopause in women and the challenges they face is commendable. Especially when women in this country are working hard and deserve a quality of life. If we can help them and women like Carol who have had experience of these challenges. Then the government should do everything to support them at home and in work. Keep it up ladies this is a cause so worth fighting for.
I struggled, but did work, with chronic pain for 23 years - but had to give up work early due to menopause symptoms. I don’t know if more support could have helped, but it wouldn’t of harmed. Women being silenced by “the system” again. I probably don’t share Carol’s political views in many cases, but bloody well done and thank you for putting your neck on the line for this. MPs should hand their heads (those who are supporting aside).
Carol is so good. She can show frustration yet maintains her cool whilst always delivering well thought out points and fact based disgussions. Good luck with the campaign.
This is an incredibly important issue and I am pleased we have Carol to be champion. She's great!
Everything to do with Tories is like going back 100 years, everything.
I was fortunate enough not to suffer much from menopause. However, I suffered considerably with my periods most months. When I asked my doctor for something to help me, he was most unsympathetic, saying very flatly, "Yes, I know, my wife suffers too." And that was the end of the conversation! It was like, if my wife suffers and I'm a doctor, you will have to suffer similarly. It truly is your curse.
I applaud people with a public profile who stick with their principles and beliefs, speak out, refuse to be silenced and act with integrity. This is leadership, courage and acting as role models. Well done Carol Vorderman, Chris Packham, Gary Lineker and Hugh Grant. Hopefully others will follow their lead.
refuse to be silenced? So whose fault is the Menopause? Go and complain to the Big Man Upstairs.
Oh dear
@@charleswhite758 don't comment on what you know nothing about!
@@charleswhite758 To people call you Right instead of your name Charlie me boy? We had a bloke at work very much like you, his name was Rick, but he was universally know as Silent P, or when he was around simply as Silent. He thought it was because he talked so much. One bloke to another, you are making an *rse of yourself, have a lttle think about things, I mean REALLY think and stop reading the Express
@@janewright2800 Wait .... I'm the one who will have to pay taxes to molly-coddle these whingeing and entitled Karens. Shouldn't I have a say? The NHS is almost bankrupt today, can we really afford to keep increasing its scope and responsibilities?
Nice one Carol,, well done,, thanks for being there.
the menopause led me to try taking my life it is serious. I've been patted on the head and patronised by medical professionals one young female doctor even said she thought you couldn't prescribe HRT until after your periods stop. It took me four months before I finally got prescribed HRT in that time I was put on three different types of antidepressants despite the Nice guidelines I now know peri symptoms can appear in your late 30's/early 40s. Education on reproductive health is woeful at the best of times its practically non-existent when it comes to the menopause. Every person with ovaries over 35 should be offered gynecology appointments specifically related to the menopause
Exactly,well said
Well said Carol! Exactly the reason we need to reduce the number of women in the workplace! 🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Carol is amazing. A fantastic person.
the voice of sense - well done Vorderman
As a single mum in UK, I can confirm the judgement is coming from other woman as much as men which I've found most surprising. We need to teach more empathy and compassion in the work place, we are not robots. Older woman in the workplace have experience to teach the younger grads Joining the workforce.
New found love for this lady. Go for it Carol!
Wow. While we definitely need more people to speak the truth, she's definitely doing her part and more. Well done ❤
The working class gave Bojo a landslide victory. Blame the retarded
workers who voted the Tories in for taking the majority of us back to
the dark ages.Oh yes I have met many women who hate Asylum seekers, they
wish them dead. I have no time for the notion that women are made of
sugar and spice and all thing nice. The mega rich and mega rich
celebrities don't want to pay more tax. So there is no money to help
these women. They need to put up and shut up. The people like Vorderman
don't want to pay more tax. E.g. Rod Steward has voted Tory for donkey's
years as have his cronies. So let us get to the point THERE IS NO MONEY
It isn't just women, it's endemic in society, as a man I have to work on site with zero health and safety, bathed in chemicals and asbestos.. and if you raise a query you are marked as negative and a " moaner" then ostracised for daring to raise an issue over you're own safety whilst working.. as long as you have a hugh viz boots and helmet that's all that matters.
😢 that should def be raised.
I liked how she drew attention to the issue not being a left Vs right issue. And, I liked that because so many other things that affect men, women, and children equally are not left Vs right as the media and politicians would have people believe. This is an excellent example of how high profile people like Carol, who are eloquent, well-respected and informed, can hold ministers to account and ask why the hell they didn’t turn up!? Great work from Carol and colleagues, i hope more women in such positions come forward and support the cause.
I'm so glad to hear this beginning to be discussed openly because it's always been considered a private issue by older women. It's incredibly hard to find out what symptoms to be aware of...for younger women to simply know! I recently asked a dr about it & it was brushed off as no big deal, HE wouldn't even do a simple test; I asked my mum & got vague mutterings...friends have had the same experiences when trying to simply get good information on what to expect.
It's ridiculous & it's simply not good enough. Women are EXPECTED to work full time for life these days, our economy is designed to make that necessary...yet many workplaces don't give consideration to basic biology & the realities of life. It's more fashionable to care for trans women (who are a tiny minority) than care for the realities of what real women experience.
Keep going Carol....keep going. xxxx
Menopause can have serious effects on woman. I'm a man, but see how it influences my wife, who is definitely not a snowflake, but a strong woman being hit with hormonal bombs.
Well said Carol, I'm currently almost seven years into perimenopause, even with HRT my symptoms are overwhelming, I literally feel like I'm in my 90s rather than my 50s, the difference is if I was in my 90s I wouldn't be expected to still be working. It's really time that the symptoms of perimenopause/ menopause are recognised and understood.
Carol is awesome. She has top points and suggestions and needs to be listened to. Love her courage in fighting for great women.
I can absolutely agree with Carol that really bad depression is just awful, thankfully I had a great female doctor who helped me get the treatment I needed
Stay strong and good luck😎👍
i never used to respect or like Carol Vorderman until recently , you go get them lass , dont stand for any BS , say it as it is , you do it all , and thank god for people like you , god bless
I had no idea about this issue - thanks to Carol and Joe for promoting it
Carol states the details SO succinctly, she makes SO MUCH SENSE.
