Ray Liotta should have come out of the corn right behind Costner when he stopped and turned around . Before the Sox team came out. James Earl Jones should have been heard over speaker saying his famous dialog yo Costner...ending in " if you build it they will come". Just my thoughts of two people missing...

I remember seeing the movie with my husband. At the end, we got up and on the way out I saw a man on an aisle seat wiping his eyes with a handkerchief. As we got into our car, I suddenly burst into tears. I cried for half an hour. I lost my own dad when I was 8. I remember baseball being such an important part of our summer afternoons and how my dad got such a kick out of me when I did an exaggerated performance of a pitcher's windup. I'd love to have a catch with my daddy again. And is there enough magic in the moonlight to make it happen?? I need to go to Iowa.

Having Jimmy Stewart play the doctor's role wouldn't be as convincing as Lancaster. By 1988, he was old and infirm, although he is a favorite actor of mine. Lancaster was cut like a block of granite, not long and lanky and we'd have seen the "doctor" as the superstar actor that Stewart was. Also, Stewart had played a whole previous movie as a baseball player. Burt Lancaster never had, to the best of my memory, and brought a true gravitas to the role as a one-game player who chose to become a doctor instead. There is an art to excellent casting.

He did come out dressed as shoeless Joe. In his whole baseball career, Jackson only went shoeless in one game, when brand new shoes were rubbing his feet raw. One event doesn't define a lifetime nor a moniker, but it did in Jackson's case. In only one game did he play shoeless.

Maybe they're former cigarette smokers who still inhale some cigar smoke. And maybe cigar smoke in the mouth is enough to dry out the throat causing damage.

I didn't watch the game as much as I wanted to. I also don't watch the All-Star game and ALCS and WS unless my team is in it because I absolutely cannot take listening to Joe Buck and his constant "The last time a player (fill in the blanks on what they did), you'd have to go back to (Fill in the year) all throughout the game. As bad as A-rod is, I'll take listening to him over Mr. Knowitall who never played the game.
