    In this video, I cover the basics of 1L final exams, from what they look like overall to outlining and study groups.
    As always, the advice in this video is completely my own and reflects my specific experiences at my law school. While it provides a general point of reference, I can't guarantee that your experience will be the same. Best of luck on your exams! We will make it through :)

    In criminal law exams it is helpful to begin the essay with a complete and full header delineating each person's initials, i.e., John Doe = JD. Each person would have a little equation delineating initials used. The idea is to make it unnecessary to type the same names repeatedly in covering every issue that might arise in the fact pattern, saves time. Excellent video that really focuses on the meat of how to do law school. Thanks.

    Your videos are really good. I went to UCLA Law School many years ago (when we still wrote out exams by hand in something called Blue Books), but the basic principles of a legal education have not changed. I agreed with just about everything you said, especially the word vomit part of the tests and the fact that writing out your own outline is a better way to prep than co-opting someone else's outline. That said, I am surprised you did not mention IRAC in this video. To this day, that is the foundation of writing a good law school exam answer: issue, rule, application and conclusion. That's all the exam (and the bar exam) is - just doing that repeatedly. Still, great job. It's clear why you got into Stanford Law.

      @@operationmockingbird216 The world contains more than you know. There is room for both the philosopher and the practitioner in law school.
      If you feel the need to call somebody immature, I think it is clear who happens to be immature, and it's not the target of your words.

    In our country you're not allowed to bring notes, more so a laptop in the exam. You have to memorize everything and hand write your answers. So basically, you have to make a mental flowchart of everything. But I guess it is because we have a civil law system as compared to common law, which means you have to be more specific in your answers. I've finished my juris doctor degree and I can say that it boils down to knowing key words when it comes to studying. Once you know that, reasoning comes naturally.

    Could you also make a video about how to take notes pleaseee! I watched your videos about reading cases and doing highlights, but how do you put them together as an outline and how do you incorporate your lecture and reading notes together? Thank you so much!!!

    In briefing cases and analyzing a case posed by your law professor on an exam, you simply employ the acronym IRAC. Issue, Rule of law, Application and Conclusion. When I attended law school we wrote out our briefs on a legal pad and wrote our exams in a blue book.

    Thank you for being thorough in your description of outlines! Is there any way you can make a video on how to make a good study schedule? I find that time management is a skill a lot of students struggle with. How different is your schedule from being an undergrad to a law school student?

    • @FortheTimeBeingchannel
      @FortheTimeBeingchannel  6 років тому +5

      +Mariana Gomez time management is definitely an important skill! My schedule is much much more full than it was in undergrad. I’ll keep time management skills in mind for another video!

    Hi! Can you do a more in-depth video about how you take class/book notes? Are they all typed? How you organize them? Also curious about little day to day things like what do girls wear to class in law school? Undergrad was pretty relaxed...wondering if law school is more professional or not. Thanks! Great videos!

    Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'm curious about your thoughts on a super specific topic- being asian female in law school. Do you think that it helped or hindered you in your admission process or do you think it didn't matter? Is there truly an over saturation of asian students in law school? I'm thinking about law school and so I was wondering what your experience has been like to hopefully get an idea of what it might be like for me. Thank you so much, love your videos!

    • @FortheTimeBeingchannel
      @FortheTimeBeingchannel  6 років тому +2

      Hi Anya! I don't think there is an oversaturation of asian students in law school at all---in fact, here there is still kind of an underrepresentation, especially among Asian American students who are not East Asian. I can't say whether it helped or hindered in the admissions process, but it probably helped in that I had a more distinct perspective to bring to the table. That's something that admissions committees typically look for.

    You had it so much easier than I did during my law school days in the 1980s. We weren't allowed to bring outlines for use on the exam. Also we didn't have laptops for use on the exam. You can type much faster than having to write it out as we did. .
