How I Studied for the LSAT

- Hey everyone! Many of you had asked in the comments about how
I studied for the LSAT, so I made this slightly more in-depth guide with some thoughts about the process. By studying, I was able to hit my goal score within the 98th percentile. It's a commitment, but so is going to law school and becoming a lawyer...
For those of you who have taken the LSAT recently, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it went! As always, please let me know what other kind of content you'd like to see and what questions you have about the law school process. Best of luck to everyone!
(Sorry for the lighting---it was pretty late)

Manifesting in this comment section that I will receive a 170+ on my LSAT and that you all do wonderful as well! Good luck friends.
I wish you well
How did you do ?
Step 1. Take a drink
Step 2. Open a study guide
Step 3. Study
Step 4. After months of studying, actually start studying intensely
Step 5. Take the test
Step 6. Cry
Step 7. Realize you will be okay.
Step 8. Repeat if needed.
soooo me!
lmaoo
this brought me so much joy and comfort
thanks LOL
I scored a 170 on my LSAT and I prepped by taking old exams (all on paper), consulting UA-cam, and attempting questions I missed several times over rather than simply checking the answer sheet and working inductively. I did not spend a dime on my prep and relied heavily on tests I found online, 7sage (for help navigating logic games), and online tips gleaned from cursory google searches and youtube. I also upped my casual reading in both quality and quantity and made sure to take my practice exams in the morning to mirror actual LSAT conditions. (Just like OP, I'll caution against mimicking someone else's strategy and expecting an identical outcome; everyone is different and LSAT prep is an incredibly personal journey). Good luck!!
hey where did you get the old exams for free from?
This is the best LSAT video I’ve seen, and as someone who has done a few practice tests and a few prep sessions through Uni it jives with my experience quite well. Thank you
Thank you for this video!! I strongly agree with what you said about the bibles using jargon that gets confusing! I would spend so much time trying to remember the bible concepts while unsuccessfully applying them to the questions. It got too hectic and overwhelming. I then got a tutor who threw that out the window and started from the basics of just reading the questions and understanding what is going on and my score started to improve!I just took the LSAT last weekend and after watching your video about doing 30-40 practice tests and thoroughly going over each one you got wrong (a method I was taught by my tutor) I'm feeling more confident about retaking the test! Thank You!
thank you for this video! the tip about taking 30-40 practice exams sounds very helpful. congratulations on your acceptance and continued success
Thank you very much for this video!! fingers crossed & i need some good luck!!
glad I watched this video i thought I was going to easy on myself.
My total study time when it's all said and done will consist of roughly 5 months.
the first 3 months were 4 days a week going through a 4 month law scholi schedule that was centered around the power score bibles.
I then spent a week or so reading the last trainer.
The last month or so for me has been like this.... 4 days a week.....each day I do about 2 sections from the practice test of a specific part of the LSAT so Monday: Logic games Tuesday: Logic reasoning. And then going over why I missed what I missed.
So hearing you did like 2 days a week really makes me feel better lol...thought I wasn't doing enough.
Also, the way you broke down what aspect of the LSAT is applicable to how well you'll be as a lawyer was perfect..and very informative.
Thank you so much for your video! I’m currently beginning to study for the french LSAT, and even though the test in itself is pretty different, I found some very helpful tips in order to organize my time and revisions ☺️ thank you again !!
this is very concise - thanks for this!
Thank you for sharing your tips!!❣️
This helped so much! I am currently taking 5 classes at a University while studying for the LSAT and trying to come up with a plan to juggle all of this has been hard especially since I'm still trying to figure out where to start with LSAT prep but now I have a better idea on what resources to use and where to go from there with regards to studying.
How many hours are you studying for LSAT a week?
The best thing you can do, if you’re still an undergrad, is to take logic or better symbolic logic. You will score easily in the 160s if you can make an A in symbolic logic.
hetero sapien welp too bad for this psy degree I got
Here’s a hint that helps me stay motivated....keep a log of how long, what days and what section you are studying
asdf asdf tbh this is something people should apply in college too... it’s what I did. Instead of just putting when a paper is due or when a test is on your calendar... assign a certain number of pages to write/ study each day and keep track of it
asdf asdf also taking it one day at a time makes it less stressful too. It makes a 12 page paper seem like nothing if you devote 1-2 days to research and then write like 2-4 pages of it each day until it’s due.
Wow I really appreciate your honesty, thank you !
Thats Funny I Just Bought the Kaplan Lsat Book. I also have an Lsat Book one of Professors gave me while I was in Paralegal School. Just thankful for the support!!!
You are a wonderful brilliant girl. Thank you for this realistic guide.
Thank you so much! There is some really great advice here.
This was very helpful! Thank you.
Who's 30 years old in above here and still studying LAW
Aljan Boloto still ? How long have you been studying ? I’m barely working on my bachelor and I’m 27😭
Me.. I’m 37 and plan to take the LSAT April 2020.
I am using the Mike Kim book
Exactly 30 taking it 1/13/20
Gina Gerzie inspiring !
this was really helpful
Thats an extremely useful video. Thank You
I needed this! thank you
Thank You for this video it was extremely helpful. Great tips I’ve actually been using the “Alpha Score” program.
Such a helpful video!!
Yeah law schools definitely put way more weight on lsat scores than universities and act/sat. It’s arguably the most important thing.
Very Useful. Thank you Hope your Legal Career is Awesome!!!
Great tips!
thank you, this video was very helpful.
Thank you for this video! I’m currently considering applying for law school so videos like these really help me decide whether to go for it or not. Please keep us updated on your career and life journey☺️💕
I love your videos. Thank you so much :)
Very helpful thank you!!
My Plan
1. Get a decent score.
2. Go to an ok lawschool
3. Get tutored by actual lawyers
4. Pass Lawschool
5. Pass BAR
6. Become a good lawyer
Please. Passing the bar and learning the law at an ok law school should not be your goal. That's your minimum obligation. If you only try to do that minimum, yes, you'll be a lawyer, but a jobless one. There are too many lawyers in this country.
Rscheco. Getting to a top 20 law school. More jobs.
@Rscheco ... A high score? A great law school?
@Rscheco if you dont get into a top 30 law school, then attending law scholl would be stupid. You wont ever make your money back, unless mommy and daddy are paying and dont want their money back.
@@ericlee801 Sounds like a crappy bar association. Canadian bars have capped the number of law school spots at 2500 a year with fewer being allowed to graduate, article, and write the bar. Less than 500 will become lawyers every year. All to guarantee sweet, sweet billables (anything below 250$/hr is low, for a first year call) and very, very low unemployment.
Thank you so much for the video!!! How early did you start studying for the lsat?
My Top LSAT Resources:
1. Powerscore Books....(Order of Importance) LG, LR, and RC. For the RC one, it will help you a lot to answer the Strengthened, Weakened, Add another sentence, Resolve the Paradox questions. Those make up around 15-25% of the entire RC section.
2. LR Encyclopedia by Nathan Fox.
3. 7Sage LG videos by JY Ping. Also follow this Fool Proof Method for Logic Games.
4. The LSAC Practice Test books (PTs 7-80s) and Blind Review them after taking each timed section. GOOGLE: Blind Review
5. And HIGHLY recommend listening to The THINKING LSAT PODCAST. Binge listen to ALL the episodes.
Good luck!
Thank You for the information
thanks so much for the tips. I am currently a junior and will be taking the lsat in July. I will update how I did. wish me luck... :)
All the best 👍
Hey to everyone in the comments older than me (27) about to take the test I am so proud of you all.
Hey I'm 21 years old and at the time when I take it
I am doing the lawschooli program! Excited... but nervous! I am going to check out that website you mentioned. Khan academy has a free website too! Thank you for the video!
I don't know why I'm here. I have a PhD in English and will not be attempting law school. But it's Covid Times. And your content seems fun! Good luck to all who are trying to get into your schools!
Hi! I have been watching your channel a lot lately. I want to start studying for the LSAT as soon as possible but I am overwhelmed by a lot of information. So, I wanted to know the answer to the following questions, please:
1). How did you study the practice tests?Remembering that a practice test consist of 4 sections, did you break the sections down and revised according? For instance, if you want to strengthen your LR abilities, do you just do an LR section of the practice test in that study period and then revised it? OR do you do a full length test and use that to revised for the entire week by checking what you got wrong/right and why you got it wrong/right, while simultaneously strengthening your LR, LG, and RC abilities?
2). Did you dedicate a week to different sections or do you attack all the sections every time you were studying?
3). Did you read a lot because it appears that you did only or mostly practice tests?
It will be my third advanced degree too!
Thank you!!
1) what was your 1st score when you started?
2) how do you recommend to learn the time management?
Can you talk about strategies for standardized testing ?
I also feel so dumb, life has been so crazy and I only have 22 days until my LSAT and I havent really studied...yaaaaay
How did it go?
Same here. Got a couple weeks and haven't studied much... had too much going on to study and still do... hope I get a decent grade I guess.. 🤞
Same boat. Take it in February. Haven’t studied yet.
Any update?
I couldn't help but notice your mug! It's so cute, where can I find it? Thanks 😊
Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve been doing Kaplan for a few months and it just expired and I wanted to know if I should drop more money on extending. This sounds like exactly my kind of learning style!!!! Thanks so much again.
Thanks so much for the tips!!!! What did you get on the SAT?
You have such a warm and calming demeanor, I'd pay you for LSAT advice or to just have a conversation with you.
Hello, I love your videos. Could you please create more videos regarding law school admissions? We would really appreciate it. More in-depth videos regarding admission essays, extracurricular activities, and other tips regarding Stanford. Thank you so much, will turn my notifications on just in case.
What score did you get on your first cold test?
Hi. Very helpful video thanks for sharing 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thank you !!!!
I take the LSAT next month and boy am I feeling ALL the negative emotions? I'm the worst test taker but still decent with note taking. Studying has been a bit hard being that I didn't take a prep class. I know the video gives advice but anyone else have advice or prep material to help? I don't feel like I will get a horrible score but I'm not feeling like i'm prepared to get the score I would like either, if that makes sense.
Hi! I'm wondering if you could tell me where you got all of your LSAT practice tests from. You said you took so many and I'm not sure where to find that many online. I can only find a free one here and there via Kaplan's website, etc. I also want to take as many as you did. Thanks!
Thank you for this video, it was really useful! I had a question about the practice tests put out by the LSAC. Where could I find that booklet of 10 tests? Thanks!
They sell it on amazon!
I just started studying for the June LSAT and the process seems really daunting...This video really helped! Thank you
hey, I am also studying for the June LSAT, how is your study going so far?
lsat wow! keep going!
Thank you so much for this video, I found many of your tips incredibly helpful. I am currently in the process of studying for the LSAT hoping to hit a consistent 174+. If you're open to sharing, by how many points did you improve from the initial diagnostic for lsat prep? and what was your gpa?
紀子R. Good luck!
YOU WILL DO IT!
How did you do? Did you make a 174?
I took the LSAT twice in order to attend law school in Southern California. Like the other tests administered by ETS (a multi-billion dollar industry) it's basically irrelevant, because as an assessment tool for predicting success in law school is less than 1%.
Would you be able to elaborate on how many hours you put in during the week to study. How long you studied for your test before and after taking it the second time. Thank you!
Between the first and second times taking the test, I studied for about 3.5 months (from February test scores being released until the June test that same year). Overall I would say I studied about 8-10 hours a week, roughly.
For the Time Being Thank you for this!!
Great, I'm now 15 years old and freaking out that I'm not smart enough for law school
So was I. I am now 23 and in lawschool. Dont freak out, bud. You'll get there.
Tasman Broadway same
Tasman Broadway I work for a law school and I believe if you want to be a lawyer, nothing will stand in your way including the LSAT. I wish you the best for your future career🙏
Calm your ass down. You're a child. It's fine. Is this your dream or your family's dream?
Esteban B lol exactly
how long did you study for the lsat?
Can I ask how you got the practice tests? Did you buy them all?
Good video.
I just would love to know, most of the lawyers I’ve ever met always say that they have majored in political science. I really want to be an attorney but I am majoring in criminal justice. Is there a big difference? Thanks!
Drdro1988 I know this question wasn’t directed to me, but hopefully this info will help. Political science deals mostly with policies and public relations. Whereas Criminal justice deals with classes that will prepare you for the law enforcement and also law in general. Both can help you be a great lawyer. You can major in anything and still get into law school. I’m a sociology major and I absolutely love it! Piece of advice will be just go with the major that your most passionate about. But don’t forget GPA is a huge plus for law school.
can you please provide the link for lsac
Thank you for the video about LSAT. may I ask how much you scored for the LSAT?
Did the 30-40 practice tests include the ones you did section by section? Or were they all timed? This video really helps! Would much appreciate an answer :)
They included the ones I did section by section! Sometimes I would do a single section timed, sometimes a single section untimed (really trying to understand each question), and the majority would be full tests timed.
@@FortheTimeBeingchannel thank you!!
Would you recommend using the LSAT Max prep app/site?
Great video and do you know if you get accommodations for ADD diagnoses?
I’m ready to start studying for a 160 to stay local and keep my job while doing weekend or part time classes.
Not sure about ADD specifically but LSAC does offer some accommodations. I would call the org directly to get info!
Thank you. I was thinking that as I typed the comment. Lol
What resource did you use for LR question explanation??
What did you score on your LSAT?
hi! where can i get the lsac prep tests that are sold by 10?
Hi, what was your initial score?
Great video full of nuggets
What are your other advanced degrees?
I didn't hear anything about the Khan Academy prep. Have you ever tried that out?
I have. It's good for showing you exactly which types of questions you need to work on, but the structure of the practice sections isn't great. In my opinion you should only practice with full, 35 minute sections and as many full practice tests as possible. Khan's practice sessions are basically half sections.
Wow! Three advanced degrees. *** The LSAT is an extremely important part of your application package. Why? First, the school's USN&WR ranking. Second, the ABA has an accreditation suspect cut off of 140. *** I took the LSAT once and the two pieces of advice I give are, e.g., take a Logic course in Uni and take practice tests again and again, include a review of were you are going wrong. Yes, the Universal Bar Exam (MBE, MEE, and MPT) is worse!
I’m 28. About to take the lsat
Hi, Do you think LSAT can be really mastered by studying. Asking this as one of the primary skill is to read and comprehend really fast. Don’t you think unless one has developed a habit of reading, one will not be able to read and comprehend fast and therefore months of preparation cannot supplant a habit that one has developed over the years. Appreciate if you could let me know.
It has been proven that it can be „mastered“. Google „A Career Changer’s Self-Study Guide to the LSAT“ for a veery good article.
Months of studying intensely are enough to build a habit of reading fast and understanding quickly.
I took the prep course. My fraternity had a keg party the night before the exam...oh, I LIVED in the fraternity house at the time. I went to the exam drunk and got 92nd percentile.
David Symons i really hope this is true cause that’s awesome
Hello. I have watched your video many times. I kept asking myself, where did she get so many practice test. So I finally muster the confidence to ask. Is it possible you can tell me where you found your practice test? Please
Thank you so much. Ps idk if you reply to questions, I hope you do😁
I bought the books of practice tests released by LSAC! You can find them on Amazon or in bookstores
@@FortheTimeBeingchannel oh, that is really cool. Are you talking about the last LAST tutor or the 10 actual prep official Lsat prep tests?
3rd advanced degree? What are the others? Thanx!
College and Masters in English literature!
With respect to the LSAT, I'm going to have to disagree with you on it applying to the type of work attorneys do. After my first year in law school, I work at the Michigan Attorney General's Office, and I can go ahead and tell you right now that there wasn't a single on the LSAT that was applicable to my line of work.
It’s the mindset that it requires
How many years to finish law school at Stanford?
How long did you study for the LSAT?
Parsing out complex legal language, boring as it may sound, is actually something I enjoy. I am a PhD, not an attorney. I am a writer and a very hard worker. I love our constitution and the concept of universally applied laws in our land. I did not do well at all during my undergrad studies. However, I absolutely CRUSHED my three graduate degrees, maintained a 4.0 throughout all grad degrees. My true aim is a mid-range law school (Syracuse/Drexel/Mich St). The quality of my work speaks for itself. I am not looking for the Y/H/S uber elite career track and I am not looking to practice in an area that earns $500k+ annually. Honestly, con law and crim law are fine for me. You corporate world-beaters can have that, lol.
Is 'for the time being' colloquial in Korean or with Asian culture in general? I'm studying some Japanese, and have come across that on several different occasions, for example, with the words toriaezu and ichiou.
Did you go to law school directly from Undergrad?
44 and looking into the lasts now... 😩
I got a 169. Is this good?
Yeah I'd say that's good. You can use the calculator on lsac's website. But you can get into a lot of top schools with that score.
What was your cold score ?
The into was cute 😍😍😍😍😛
What score did you get as a baseline?
165
A
I had the same mindset as you about attending law school (e.g., only go if I get accepted to a top law school). I think there's a ceiling based on your intelligence of how high you can score on the LSAT. I was aiming for 170+ and studied with that goal in mind, but couldn't crack anywhere near a 170 on the actual test. I did score around 170 on practice tests although these were recycled tests that I had taken before so I'm not sure how much memory played a role in scoring in the high 160s/low 170s on practice tests.
You’re gorgeous and thanks for the tips.
My goal is to score in the 90 percentile. What was your diagnostic score.
I give up.
