Its surprising how relaxing these videos are, I like to sit back with a nice cup of tea and watch it on a big screen.
Excellent, that was exactly what i was going for when i edited it!
And you chose my favourite 50 Furious. Made my day looks incredible.
Saw this years ago and it inspired me to think repainting needn't be that hard. Got a compressor, airbrush, also a desktop spray booth... just getting my act together to start spraying paint around!
Another superb job. Just got into weathering with an airbrush and when I get more confident I will have a go at a respray.
I have to say that I am delighted to have "discovered" this channel. It is a joy to watch these videos. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, I've got a Dmu that I purchased with an extremely bad paint job, this video is a great tutorial that I can refer to. Excellent video and excellent job thank you.
Once again a fantastic tutorial , I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses your "How To's" as references as how things should turn out:-) thanks again, Mark
You sir are a genius! This is an amazing how to and the coaches look perfect too! :)
Very amazing miniature train environment you have created here..!..
I thank you for posting these instructional tutorials. I'm sure it could take a lifetime
to detail every little element, not only on the train units, but in the landscape as well.
Very amazing...!! trains are so beautiful but most taken for granted by most everybody outhere...
M.G. ...cheers from Phoenix, Arizona.
Thanks for taking the time and trouble to show us how to repaint locos. Very informative and may even inspire me to have a go. Cheers Dave
I really liked watching this, I have no plans to do this to my locos (yet) but I found it fascinating to watch. Well done mate. Dave
Another excellent tutorial, really looking forward, as always, to the next installment of Everard Junction.
Counting the days to the start of my own layout when me and the mrs finally move house!
Cracking job, the end result is better than factory, the fox transfers go on no problem with the gloss finish, this has been one of my problems when making the plastic kits from Ratio. Love the work long may the videos continue. (sometimes i look back over all the old videos just to reference something but end up watching them for hours and forgetting what I was looking for :-) )
Thanks, glad the videos help you, plenty more videos on the way.
Don't think I will ever attempt anything like this, but a great video and an awesome job,,,
you have done a damn fine job on that 50 and the coaches richard, well done mate.
Thanks Terry, at one stage i was worried it was never going to end. those coaches took so long to do!
yeah i bet they did mate. i admire your determination and patience, something i lack lol.
actually while im typing i wanted to say that im going to respray my sentinel shunter into yellow and wanted to know how you went about masking the word sentinel on the side of the shunter.did you just cut out a piece of masking tape and stuck it down?
Glebe Road Junction Hi Terry, only just got round to reading this! Yes I just cut a tiny bit of tape and stuck it over the sentinel logo.
Brilliant tutorial. Gonna attempt one myself. That is a really nice loco now, and with the stock, makes for a cracking train. I like the simplicity of your teaching. Thanx for upload.
That's is brilliant. What a fantastic job you have done on the loco and coaches.
Wow that looks amazing great video
Brilliant video's richard I could watch them all day
Fantastic job mate !
Great video, really helpful... I have only ever repainted model buses and coaches - i have not attempted my trains yet.... great video :)
thumbs up from me.
steve
Another excellent How To.All look fantastic.
Such a good and helpful video! thank you
Nice work very nice tutorial. Beautiful to see it and its coaches running.
Fantastic....as always. Every video you make is so well put together and explained. As such I always look forward to the next one.
Hi, a fine tutorial. Very well presented and the result is top ! I learned a lot and enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing. Greetings.
Very good how-to tutorial there. Its certainly helped and inspired me to do some re-paints on some of my models. Brandon
youve done a beautiful job
Excellent how to video. I will be giving it a try on some of my recently acquired rolling stock
This is first class. A real inspiration. I have experience with spraying model cars but this is excellent. Perhaps you may consider giving a talk at Alley Pally through the Model railway club at King Cross London. top marks.
This is fantastic as always Richard, top work. You must have the patience of a saint painting all of the coaches excellent.
Mike
My patience was beginning to wear thin with those coaches. They took so long, and the sheer number of them made me wonder if they would ever be finished.
Very nice paint job and excellent video.
Fantastic stuff! Am a huge fan of your layout and class 50's.
Good job mate she looks great, cheers Tony
Very good how to do video, enjoyed watching and learnt heaps, Thanks The repaint 50 and the coaches look real good
Al
Well beyond my capabilities mate looks the biz in that livery.
Cheers Kev
Thanks Kev, it’s not too hard once you have some practice. The issue is the number of opportunities there is to get things wrong. It puts pressure on you at the end when you know you've done so much without a problem.
Very enjoyable to watch..Great work.
Impressive and very helpful information on how to apply transfers also in this video. Cheers, matt.
Excellent video and tutorial. Many thanks for posting.
Really impressive results there and an excellent tutorial video, really informative and clear.
One of your best videos yet...which is no small feat!
Always loved NSE, I prefer the newer livery myself, but the original with the 'flash' up at the front looks so smart!
Thanks, I always like NSE both original and revised. However the more research I did the more I noticed how little MK2s got the darker blue. So in the interest of the whole rake matching I thought I'd got for to original scheme. Some good picture of trains exactly like that in 1988 and 1989.
Great video well done.
Inspiring stuff. Great work, thanks for sharing.
a very good 'how to' video. I have book marked it for future reference especially for the air brush paint when i start using mine. One thought, i saw someone use masking tape for long tranfers
Awesome video and great modeling job.
Brilliant video as always! Love to see the level of detail and the care you take in all aspects of your layout. Looking forward to your next video already :)
First Class modelling - Thanks for sharing.
One time, I needed a loco in a roadname that wasn't available. Rather than risk destroying a $300 loco, I ordered a second shell, an undecorated shell, and painted and weathered that one. For intricate designs, it's often possible to find transfers/decals, or even have custom transfers/decals made, for your railroad. Unfortunately, that's not always an option because undecorated shells are not usually available for most models.
superb once again
you've done a fantastic job Richard of the repaint on the loco and the coaches, really is a top job, and looks so much better than the off the shelf model, not brave enough to try this, only just started to weather my trucks using the weathering powders video you did Andy
brilliant how to, thank you. this will be the next project
i spy some irn bru. love that stuff
fantastic video, i'm planning a project in the future to respray my class 43 in FGW!
Superb tutorial. Excellent work on the painting as well. Lacking the skill you possess, I will just have to wait until I can buy the prepainted ones. Brilliant. Rob
Superb how to video Richard the 50 and the rake of coaches look really good made it look really easy especially the decals I did a class 26 recently and I found that to be the hardest bit to do but I think I did not use the gloss varnish only used a Matt and they did not move around so easily thanks for sharing cheers Kevin
Nice, I like the color scheme . Walter
The decals can get very annoying, the best thing you can do is gloss coat the model. Is makes a huge difference.
Wow, great job! I wouldn't have the patience or skill to do that!
Great job ...
Superb, faultless. Wish I had half of your talent.
Very impressed with the quality of your work. Slightly jealous to lol
Beautiful work there!
Great tutorial! And your loco turned out very well.
Thank you for such an informative video, the results are excellent and was a pleasure to view :)
wow great job!!!
Superb repaint! Just need weathering now!
That fencing would look amazing painted with aluminium silver
Fantastic Job well done!
Superb "how to" buddy, thoroughly enjoyed it and it looks absolutely superb, cheers Stu @ Lime Junction
Fantastic job you have done there, I think if I give it a go, I will practice on an old Lima Class 50 first, excellent tutorial.
Pratice is key, the more old unused bodies you have the better.
Everard junction and 5 elms. My two favourite UA-cam layouts. I read lots of railway modelers. So I would really enjoy it if you would put an article in railway modeler with a track plan. Your layouts are both great.
Have a look at his recent vids, Richard is getting Ever. Junction is getting in HM, he's getting ready for a photoshoot. Cheers, Brad.
Cracking vid and an awesome job!!!! I do a lot of this stuf n this was rather interesting!!
Brilliant!
I'm not really a Network South East person but that's a brilliant job you've done!! Airbrushing looks different to hand painting.
Great job, respect for you.
Perfect, Very nice tutorial !
great tutorial - thinking about respraying a network rail DVT when i get the chance now! Thanks! Also i prefer the original nse livery! great job well done
wow you are very good at this
Washing up liquid breaks the surface tension of the water so the transfers slide easier
It looks better with a white roof but looking at the virgin hst's you can guess why diesel trains don't have white roofs!
very interesting video
Fantastic work! G+'d.
Absolutely stunning!! Good thing the 50's don't have that many transfers on them. Maybe a class 70 to test your skills? :D
class 56 large logo respray here I come
It's beautiful I love it
To get a perfect gloss finish try Pledge Klear Multi Surface was with Future shine, it is water thin goes through an airbrush like a dream and cleans up easy, it gives a perfect gloss finish to laydown your decals.
For standard colour paints like black and red give XtraColour a try, can get it from Hannants, they airbrush very well, their colours are for aeroplanes mostly but the basic colours work for all.
Google search can give thinner ratios in relation to your setup air pressure, gun setup etc.
you should run a passenger special with your old locomotives and passenger stock
brilliant!
i love the nse livery
Awesome job!!! I'd love to do that to a H0 scale U11B to make it look as the INCOFER (costarrican railway) machines looks... ...but there is no H0 scale U11B ;-(
Really, outstanding job!
Quick question: How did you see to paint the white over the white primer?
its hard to tell which ones had that livery as their first one, and which ones you have resprayed. i guess that is the idea though. a job well done!!
you recoat even when the first coat is not fully dry? that work ok? Never thought of that, I tend to give the precision paints (used on my trunking) 24 hours to fully harden. The blue is spot on for shade!
As long as you are doing the same colour you can apply extra coats when the previous one has touch dried. I then leave the 3 or 4 layers of paint i've built up to fully dry overnight. I was quite surprised at how quickly the phoenix paint dried. On some parts I was able to paint in the morning and mask over it in the evening whithout any trouble.
Speaking as someone who's only ever built model aircraft, I do find transfer application be a really boring process. But it's worth it.
I love your vids. What camera do you use to film the intro it looks amazing !
I had one of these compressers for Christmas came with two airbrushes and more accessories im impressed so far at how quite it is. I haven't used it with paint yet . also im planning on repainting in to the br blue livery (n gauge ) im also going to upload how to's
Hi Richard - I bought a 1947 Hornby Dublo 0-6-2 tank in pretty poor shape paint wise, the original colour was olive green. can you advise me if Phoenix do a match for this colour?
Kindest regards
Paul
ps. Thoroughly enjoy watching all your vids.
Really good and interesting project, paint job looks fantastic and very interested in paints you used are they widely available?
The phonenix paints i used are available from their website. I tend to buy as much as possible in one go to save on postage.
Highly interesting to watch but just as I will never climb into a 50 metre high crane-tower I wouldn't even dare to think about this !
Question : HOW do you mix to finally get the correct colors of blue, red, grey and so on ?
As there are hundreds colors of blue and other colors possible
This is a very old video but anyway..I see you are pulling the airbrush triger all the way back when you where painting the loco..So full paint flow..I know this is a NO NO.So..You where using a very low pressure then?~10PSI or lower? I ask because I bought the eclipse HP-CS recently and I'm an airbrush newbe..and I have also a loco repainting project to do.
What's the stand you have used in this video. Like the clamp type system.
Brill job your doing on this. Have followed a fair amount of your vids. Well done.
The stand you see me use a lot is the Tamiya spray work stand. You get the both the stands you see in the video in the same box.
I have recently completed a Jaguar E-Type by Airfix and I have some paints left.. can i use them on my engine? I'm thinking about repainting an old Triang Dock Authority shunter into an custom livery..
My 50 is the Lima one, funnily enough also Furious.
The detail on your model is far better than on the Lima.
I'm guessing that she was repainted during her lifetime, and existed in both the swished and non swished version?
Hampshire Brony She did carry both liveries. She was repainted into the revised livery sometime during late 1989. Then she was taken out out service in June 1990 and was scrapped in 1991.
EverardJunction I saw 50 027 today, which I was not expecting. I saw it had the number 027 on the NSE stripes on the front. I've never noticed that in any photographs of NSE locos. Was this a thing that was trialled on some locos, something added during restoration or some other quirk?
Living in Southern territory, I never got to see NSE loco hauled stock in the flesh, all we got were slam door EMUs, and the RR 150s and 158s.
Hampshire Brony Certainly didn't happen when they were in service with BR. Most likely something that was added during restoration.
