Stunning scenery - truly stunning. The best I've seen - and the standard I shall aspire to as I embark on my 'n' gauge layout just commenced. Your videos have been very helpful - Thanks.
I watched all three of your videos on your hill and tunnel area. Excellent job. Looking forward to more. Keep up the good work. Your friend from Canada. Ron
thats superb, its amazing what a bit of greenary and trees do, hope you go with the country road at the side as that will look fantastic on there as well, thanks for the vid and very well done
Looks great , sometimes i stick trees with copydex as it flexes if you nock the tree also its easy to remove copydex when its dryed it you want to reposition etc. great vid. Jim.
The tree`s give so much better shape n depth then ready built ones, and deffo need a new HST intro with 1 IC set heading into or out of the tunnel and the HST flooring it the other way, with shot looking down the line and then from side through the threes over the embankment. simple, spacious and very effective love it. ken.
Enjoying this series. Always good for reference and I appreciate how much you put into your presentations as, I'm sure, others do too. Thanks for sharing. (I've got my headphones on whilst the other 'alf watches TV. The teaffic sounds busy outside!!)
I have some way to go before applying scenery on my first layout and these tutorial videos will certainly help me get started on the way to a decent result - with some practice of course :)
At last something that looks easy! I've been looking at wiring point motors etc. And it looks really daunting although Brian Lambert's website looks easy enough to follow.
Looks really nice, a lovely section to the layout. A small wooden fence above the tunnel mouths would look good to stop people being able to fall down?
Excellent tips, many already attempted by me but not to the same standard! Planning to build a layout based around central scotland in the mid 80's myself. Not only do you have a realistic layout but the rolling stock all match to the right period (late 80's) and driven at the correct speed ! 10/10
I use a wide mix off woodland scenics stuff from clump foliage to static grass, the main colours being medium or summer greens. I mainly use the following products.... T1342, T1341, FL635, FL632, F1661, F1133 and F1131
Thanks again! Your scenery work is quite effective in suspending disbelief, making it look less like a model, and more like countryside. I also like the weathering of your trains & their smooth running! I was wondering what you were planning to do about the white along your horizon lines, and if you will be detailing your backdrops a little more. Will you use some air brushing & transitional bushes or foliage where the backdrop meets the top of your grass and wooded hills?
Fantastic scenery work there! Well done! To add my penorth worth, I would love to see a 4 aspect light with trains restarting or passing by under caution or blasting at full speed on green!
Most impressive! But it has got me thinking hard. My layout is set in the late forties, just prior to nationalisation. Steam still ruled. There would not be any trees close by the lineside because embankment fires were a regular occurrence, so trees and even bushes never got established. It would be quite correct to paint a section of embankment (or cutting side) a blackened shade to represent a recent fire. You never got the "wrong sort of leaves" on the track then!
Great job - in a simple way - thanks - I'll break up my track and start all over ;o) In the middle at the tunnel a signal would make it even more perfect. A long the "hill" side telephone poles - home made - will contribute to the scenery. In part one, it looked like you used gaffa tape to cover the track doing construction, not recommendable (glue on the tracks). I use toilet paper, painter tape beside the track;o)
really enjoying these vids, the scenery is looking fantastic! Are you planning to add a backdrop of some kind at the scenic break? Looking forward to the next episode! :)
I love watching you videos it has gave me a lot of inspiration for my layouts I have only started to get in the hobby I also have a question I am going to try vitrians and wanted to know weather it is a good make
Beautiful work here. Important to take your time and add little additions slowly. Walk away, and come back for a second look before adding more. That static grass rocks! Nice job
How about some semaphore signals everard? Some on gantry and some single post ones? This is a really excellent layout by the way, you've really got patience ill give you that.
I haven't started my layout yet, a lot of hard work at my age etc, but in reality would there be trees next to the line, I'm thinking root damage, lifting the line. Yep I'm picking hairs.
Arnold Robert Lee Trees do appear on embankments along with lots of bushes and shrubs. In steam days they were less common due to fear of fire from the passing steam locomotives.
Love your work EJ. Just an observation I noticed on the line I use to gets to work - Trees do indeed appear on embankments but I have noticed that Network Fail tend to remove the branches facing the track so if the tree was to fall it would be more likely to fall away from the track than onto it.
great film that's given me some great tips what colour grass did you use? Who manufactures it? And did you use statics grass? If so what applicator? Cause it looks blumen good
I used static grass manufactured by miniNatur. I used a mix of summer and autumn 6mm long fibres and applied it using my static grass applicator that I made myself using some instructions I found on google about 4 years ago.
Looking good - started on my helix today following your guide, so far easier than I was expecting! Thanks for sharing

Love the updates. I'm very jealous of how far your layout has progressed :)

Some of those trees look like the kind which would later on fall down onto the tracks. Eh, who am I to judge? Your layout is awesome!
wow,wow and triple wow, that grass looks amazing, where did you get it from?
Beautiful work here. Important to take your time and add little additions slowly. Walk away, and come back for a second look before adding more. That static grass rocks! Nice job
I have no comments.... My replay button is jammed
Most model shops have them, mine came from hattons, prices vary.

What kind of glue do you use to stick the trees into place and to add the grass
I record bits I need from various videos of real trains. I then chop them up and edit them into somthing that suits the intro for my vid.
Hi you might have provided me with an answer to this already but i just cant find it.... What did you make the line side trunking out of ?
